    We just got the same sealer and it's a huge improvement over the FS'ver we had. Glad you mentioned the "Dual seal" does nothing because it doesn't and thats not a knock against this machine just a fact. It's really a great machine. enjoyed the vid.

    I have this chamber vacuum sealer. Absolutely love it.
    Insanely low price compared to others. I hope it stands the test of time.
    Two tips.
    1. You can actually seal Mason Jars in the chamber. Put the lid on and thread the ring part of the lid down to just touching the lid. Do not tighten ring. Lay the jar on it’s side in the chamber (don’t do liquids). Close the lid to start the vacuum. After about 15 seconds hit the emergency stop. The Mason Jar lid will be sealed shut tight. I store hops & spices this way. Easy to reseal after each re-opening and not waste vacuum bags.
    Beware of sealing fine powdered contents like Dry Malt Extract (DME). Too much vacuum will suck the lighter powder out and cause a dust storm covering the entire chamber. Don’t ask me how I know! 😮

    The bubbling of the tomatoes is actually boiling... it occurs when the vapour pressure of the water equals/exceeds the ambient pressure. That's why water boils at a lower temperature high up in the mountains where atmospheric pressure is less than sea-level. In the case of this chamber vacuum machine, water will begin to boil when the pressure reaches 2.67 kPa (0.387 psi) and the temperature is 22 C (72F). Atmospheric (ambient) pressure at sea-level is 101.4 kPa (14.7 psi).

    Technically, the tomatoes WERE boiling. Water and other liquids can boil at room temperature in a vacuum. That's one of the reasons humans can't be outside of a pressure suit in space. Sure, we'd freeze solid pretty quickly, but the real issue is that our blood would boil inside our bodies before we froze to death. Sciencey stuff is fun, right? Just about to order one of these ... I've had my old Food Saver sucky sealer for over a decade, but always hate having to stop vacuum early on meat as moisture heads for the sealer bar.

    Great video, interesting product! If I did more meat aside from a bunch of steaks and ground beef from Costco every few months... or I was a hunter, I'd be interested. My years old food saver is doing pretty good in the time being.

    @PortlyGentleman, Can you tell me what the MINIMUM distance between the seal and product inside the bag would be? This thing looks awesome but I am using for a commercial product so definitely want to use as little plastic as possible both for the finished product aesthetics as well as cost. Im worried many of these need a tail/header of several inches or more of excess bag material to be able to reach the sealer. I'd like the product inside the bag to be as close to the seal as possible. Thanks in advance for any answers, and thanks for the solid review.

    will this work on freezer ziplock bags?

    It looks like a great bit of kit Bradley. I've been trying to use some allegedly suitable traditional vac sealers for breaking down hops for home and my customers and havent had great success. I'd be interested to see if they work with mylar style bags. The link doesnt work for me, are you able to tell me which model and which watt spec your unit is please?

    • @PortlyGentleman
      @PortlyGentleman  Před 9 měsíci +1

      The one I'm using is the exact one in the first link. The cool thing about a chamber sealer is that yes, you can use mylar bags. You don't have to use the bags with the bumps to help with airflow. This thing is an absolute beast. It'll literally crush an empty beer can.
      I myself got frustrated with burning out the $120 Costco sealers every year or two.

    That's a sweet Vacuum sealer. But hard to justify the price when chealer ones doa pretty good job.

    • @PortlyGentleman
      @PortlyGentleman  Před 9 měsíci

      For sure you have to be sealing a pretty large quantity to make it worthwhile. I myself have burned out countertop models consistently every year or so. This thing definitely does a far better job of ceiling and vacuuming than any countertop unit I've used to date. 🍻

    • @tysonwaldron607
      @tysonwaldron607 Před 6 měsíci

      For my purposes, the countertop versions just do not do the job, like at all. If you are sealing anything with high moisture content, the chances of a true vacuum seal with a countertop model is essentially zero. They think they are sealing because the liquid forms a vacuum in the system, but there is still tons of air pockets in the bag. Thats been my experience. So I know I need a chamber style one, but the cost has been hard to justify. I am very intrigued by this one because it is so much cheaper than the competition, but obviously leery as you typically get what you pay for. Many of the reviews look like this thing might actually do a good job despite the lower price, so i may be pulling the trigger on one very very soon! Thanks @PortlyGentleman for the very solid review.

    Does not do a good job on salmon or soft meat. Way to much air left in bag. It does well for hard items. I’m very disappointed because the main reason I got it was for salmon.

    • @PortlyGentleman
      @PortlyGentleman  Před 9 měsíci

      That's interesting. I literally vacuumed packed liquid yesterday. Did you take out the lower shelf? Maybe you have a defective unit?

    • @alexwest4362
      @alexwest4362 Před 7 měsíci

      I am a deer processor and all my meat is soft and I can agree to this. Doing 1lb packs of ground burger is ok but doing a small tenderloin or a piece of back strap, it just leaves way to much air in the bag. That’s why I’m watching videos to see if I missed something. I advertised to my customers that I’d be vacuum sealing this year but I’m not proud at all with some of the things I’m giving them

    Apparently, Vevor sells cheap rebranded chinese junk and has terrible customer service.
