- They call themselves "The Tyre Extinguishers" and say they have one aim: to make it impossible to own a 4x4 in the world's urban areas.

The climate activists go out at night and deflate the tyres of SUVs in affluent areas, from the UK and Scandinavia, to New Zealand and the USA.
They claim they've struck around 5,000 vehicles all over Britain in the last few months, with one police force describing their actions as reckless.
We’ve been to meet them.

@Bob Terwilliger We have two shepweilers (shepherd/rottie) and a Dutch shepherd. I'd have no hesitation opening the door and watching the show.
@Bob Terwilliger I hear ya'. Our Dutch shepherd is 110lb. - and our largest shepweiler is 85lbs (and is 1/3rd doberman also). They're all gentle and loving around people they know...but they're all incredible guard dogs and very protective of the property. The Dutch is basically a police dog without a badge, lol. Cheers.
I can think of a very good use for a tyre iron on these wankers. It would be a wee bit messy. But I can guarantee they’d never pull that stunt again.
A friend of ours who keeps rare-breed and rescue chickens has to shift 200kg of feed across farm fields every week and absolutely needs a 4x4 to do this all year round. She has had her tyres deflated and shived several times (so they had to be replaced). The fools who do this presumably can't understand that some people have good reasons to have such vehicles.
my understanding is that they are only focusing on urban areas, where owning an SUV only serves to annoy and frustrate other road users.
@@33LB This is clearly not the case. In any case who is to say that someone living in an urban area does not, for example, have a pony for their children or some other hobby (sailing, rowing, caravaning etc) for which a heavy vehicle with towing capability or high load capacity is required? Are we all supposed to limit our interests and occupations to those that can be conducted with a bicycle? Should we all not be limited to walking?
@@ColinMill1 do you have any evidence that this group is acting against 4x4s in rural areas? because in their mission aim, they deliberately specify urban areas: "To make it impossible to own a huge polluting 4x4 in the world’s urban areas."
i think it's clear that very few people own SUVs to help with hobbies, given that very few people have ponies, or go sailing, caravanning etc. to begin with.
" Are we all supposed to limit our interests and occupations to those that can be conducted with a bicycle?"
you know there are cars that are not SUVs, right?
@@33LB I live in a rural area (and have a small-holding myself) and it is clear that this activity is now rife in this area.
As for the proliferation of SUVs over, say estate cars, for those needing a high capacity vehicle, have you not noticed that large estate cars are fairly thin on the ground? I personally use an old Subaru Outback estate car but the model was replaced with what is effectively an SUV in 2009.
If our friend has to give up her work with the chickens (which seems likely if this continues - the cost of the tyres is considerable) some rare breeds will be all the closer to extinction.
@@ColinMill1 car manufacturers introduce more SUV models because consumers are prepared to pay for them. if consumers send a clear message to manufacturers that they do not want SUVs, then SUVs would disappear in favour of estate cars and other smaller vehicles.

Letting out air from someone's tire is not justification for killing someone in most of the world and will get you put away for murder.
@@mineswah4363 This is not just letting air out of a tire. This is attempting to disrupt someone's life just because you don't like the car they drive. Mess up your job? Don't care because I'm an activist. Someone need to go to doctor or hospital? Doesn't matter because my delicate sensibilities have been offended. This whole activist trend of "I'll do everything I can to make your life difficult until you obey MY way of thinking and you better dare not do anything about it" is why good people hate them. As for murder, I'll take my chances. No trespassing signs combined with "I feared what harm they would do me" and living in a "stand your ground" state as well as a state that recognizes the "castle doctrine" make me pretty confident I will be just fine.

The whole idea is to inconvenience you. If your vehicle keeps having the air let out of it then maybe next time when you go buy a car you might think "Maybe I should just buy a normal car" otherwise you're gonna just have to deal with your tires being deflated. Hate us all you want. Get a smaller car or deal with the risk of your tires being deflated, or worse, it's easy as that.
They aren't doing it just because they don't like the car you're driving they're doing it because your choice of car is killing the planet.
@@mineswah4363 "maybe I should just buy a normal car"

If you believe that you'll believe anything.
So...they slash tires to do what? Make those people get an even bigger tow truck to pick up the SUVs? It would literally be less harmful to the earth to have them drive off.
They aren't slashed. They just have the pressure let out.

They still are far deadlier to passengers. I was hit by a car on a zebra crossing. Had it been a SUV I likely would not be here. Using a SUV on urban area should be considered attempted murder.
My question, are they checking each vehicles emissions before tampering with tyres?

These posh toffs who drive around in massive gas guzzlers because their driveway sometimes has leaves on it, need to get a reality check and to start acting responsibly. However, I saw them taking the air out the tyres of atleast one hybrid, they need to be very particular about what cars they do it to or they'll alienate everyone
Blinkered view that... "posh toffs" one of the guys in the video has a Renault Captur, he's a posh toff is he? I mean its just a spacious Megane for all intents and purposes.
Most people that drive SUV's are not posh toffs. They just have a lot of debt, like many people, and are trying to push on through their own worries. Just like you and me. We are not each others enemy, we are being divided. and Channel 4 news is one of the chef tools in that division.
A non-suv hybrid will emit less co2. It’s not complicated. Ev suvs are silly as well.
@@SandyRitchie spacious Clio, the Megane equivalent is the Kadjar
@@ravagerslb You get it at least. 👍The minute anyone mentions SUV the nuts automatically assume its an Escalade or a Range Rover sport. Not a same footprint as a regular hatchback.
This is just idiot. They have no right to vandalize other people property just because they dislike that property.
Well, on the flip side, if their vehicle is a hazard to life (locally and at a planetary scale), maybe other people have a right to self defence.
First, it's not vandalism. Secondly, if you're contributing to my child's asthma, I'd call it self defence. Maybe you need to get your priorities straight.
You have no right to ruin the lives of everyone that will ever exist for a vroom vroom
Usual bunch of witless twats. Ever done a day's work anyone?
Really dangerous practice you could fall into a ball bat and fracture your skull doing that.

I would love to see what happens if someone catches them.
England is so polite that even if people caught them deflating the tyres it would turn into a conversation about the looming climate catastrophe .... the activists hope so anyway lol.

So much 'ard in the comments. You'd cack bricks.
Large heavy cars should require a permit as to who can own them and when and where they can be driven. They aren't fit for purpose for 99% of the population and have a detrimental effect on public health and public infrastructure.
If tennagers where causing these problems noone would bat an eye lid at people taking matters into their own hands.
Of course its mostly the car dealers fault for pushing suvs onto uneducated customers (no judgements here, ordinary people can't be expected to know about everything) and its the governments fault for letting them.
Makes me sick seeing people own them in the city. If you lived in rural North Queensland sure the roads are too dogshit for a 2wd
all gas vehicles are being transitioned to EVs around the world so I don't see the issue. Soon you won't even be able to buy gas vehicles, except for maybe small turbo engines
So the news just sits back and watches it happen . as a suv driver . this causes me anxiety . maybe i should call the cops on the news for posting this without condemning such actions

If I was that trauma doctor and I found one of these climate goons needing treatment. There's plenty of ways I could get my own back.
I wouldn't help them 👌🏽
I think most trauma doctors would probably be relatively circumspect. OK he let me tires down - that was annoying. But does that mean I should let him die? Or suffer. Perspective possibly? Humility?

The people doing it can’t earn the price of a tyre
SUVs are more dangerous for pedestrians, other cars and tbh for those inside the car too and on top of that they are fuel inefficient, unpractical and take more space than a regular car. I don't support these behaviors but really SUVs are just dumb don't buy this trash.
Why can’t they leave people alone? Meanwhile politicians are not harassed.
No law... pretty sure it’s vandalism. Or even sabotaging a vehicles safety that could lead to a death... so murder. ( yes I know that’s extreme, but a prosecutor could argue that point.)
Where'd you get your law degree from, genius?
How would you drive it, though, without knowing?

The B-52 long-range bomber is an eight-engine jet aircraft of the United States Air Force. A B-52 jet uses as much fuel per hour as the average driver does in seven years. And the US Air Force alone owns about 80 B-52 bombers.
And how much do these B52s are doing in term of worldwide emission percentage ? Yeah that's right, nothing at all.
They should target corporations not individuals.
Easier said than done
Great excuse if you are late for work!
no way this isn't at least considered vandalism or petty theft(I paid for that air your releasing) not to mention this just makes the suvs less fuel efficient
Well the air is free if you use a foot pump. On the other hand, imagine if you left home in the dark and don't have tyre pressure sensors. You could potentially crash due to the flat tyres. Some would say check your tyres before leaving, and that you would feel the flats tyres. Both true but most peoole don't check and some wouldn't know the different feel of the car was flat tyres. And the more cars that are targeted, the more the risk.
3:11 a vauxhall mokka is barely a crossover probably with a 1.6 litre engine hardly a gas guzzler 🤦🏻
I was about to say these dingbats are just doing whatever they can everywhere and get bad publicity.

Why can't they just leave the note? Is it a must to deflate the tires as well?
Because people will just crumple the notes chuck them away and ignore them. It means that maybe people will take into consideration the fact that they might wake up one day, late to a meeting to find no air in their tires. Might convince them not to buy an SUV.

I mean, it's not something I would do, but I can see why they are feeling so desperate. The government clearly doesn't give a sh*t about the climate. People have a right to self-defence and dirty against dangerous cars, even if the government won't legislate to protect t them. They shouldn't be socially acceptable.
Property rights don't trump rights to clean air, safe roads and a liveable climate.

The UK government is one of the few governments making the green transition. Norway, Germany, and France are as well. But most countries aren't. We want green growth, not deep economic reccession that lasts for years and years.
