  • ( www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2015 Ford F-150 2.7L EcoBoost has a new Automatic 4X4 system. And in this TFLtruck off-road review we decide to put it to the test by bashing the truck through the snow in a Colorado Snowstorm.

    WOW!! That video got me pumped up because I just bought a 2018 F-150 Sport 4X4. It's my first EVER truck and I needed it because last week, we had a snow storm and because I only have cars, my wife and I were snowed in for nearly a week. My neighbors? Many of them had 4X4 trucks and were moving around freely while my wife and I were peeking out the windows of our home trapped. I told her; "This will never happen to us again! I'm going to get us a truck!" As soon as the snow cleared up, I went shopping and picked up this beauty. Now I'm saying; "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!" LOL!!!

    I went from two Tundras, 2008 and 2014, to a 15 f150. I will never buy another brand truck after the past year and a half experience with the f150. Best truck I've ever had hands down.

      I had a 2007 Tundra Crewcab Limited 5.7L 4x4 for about 4 years. Had a ton of power, really enjoyed it except for the constant unstoppable rust. Like most Toyotas, the engine will last a half million miles but the frame and body only 100k. Traded it for 2016 Ford F150 XLT Supercrew 5.0L v8 4x4 recently, it drives so much smoothly and quietly with much better power band. With aluminum body I won't have to worry as much about rust driving here in Ohio.

    • @IKhanNot
      @IKhanNot Před 6 lety +2

      You know you could have just rust proofed it every other year and you would have been fine. With so much ground clearance it wouldn't be a difficult job.

    • @OSTKCabal
      @OSTKCabal Před 6 lety +14

      Or Toyota could put 15 minutes of research into better rust proofing from the factory. Or here's a novel thought, be innovative and use aluminum body panels.

    when driving in snow that is deep as that or deeper, some times you acually have to turn the traction control off because it will cut power and slow you down. you need your speed and the ability to spin your tires. (real world tip).

    I have a Range Rover and Toyota Land Cruiser to get me through the snow but I've often wondered about these pick up trucks, if they are primarily designed as rugged load-carriers or if they actually are serious off roaders in all conditions. You just answered my question! I was especially impressed at how it performed on All Season tyres rather than pure winter tyres (I swap my Range Rover from all season nto winter tyres for the cold months and I notice a big difference.) Not sure how this one stacks up against a Range Rover or Land Cruiser in that regard, but as I don't go looking for trouble it can clearly deal with anything I am likely to encounter.

      We'll be happy to oblige you so here you go. When you open the window after a snowstorm on the new F-150 the snow falls into the truck from the little ledge on the door. The integrated brake control is too low and hidden out of sight. When it rains and you brake the water comes flying off the hood and onto the windscreen. The clam shell doors are a royal pain in the ass, but this true for all trucks with this opposing door set-up and we don't really like the goofy horizontal strip of fake wood down the inside of the door panel. It reminds us of something from a 1970's Lincoln. Happy?

    • @WilliamStewart1

      The Fast Lane Truck The new F150s do that stupid thing with water hitting the front window when you brake too? It drives me nuts on my 2014 Sierra, I never understood why it does it either. Every time I hit my brakes hard while it rains, I always get a big splash of water on the front window from the front grill/hood area. It does it after I go to the car wash too which is even more annoying agter drying your window.

Then at last minute, two days before I bought my 2015 F150 Ecoboost 3.5 Platinum 4x4, I went to Toyota dealer one more time to give the highest end Tundra they had another test. Wow, what a difference! That Tundra, 2015 high end model 4x4, felt not nearly as good as the F150. Ethyl also said a big NO to the Tundra. Anyway, I'm still not brand loyal and will change in a NYC second next time if I find a better truck. I love competition. The new Ram and GM are looking mighty good. GM is FINALLY making round wheel wells too! I just don't like the cylinder deactivation they put on 6.2! I don't like it on 5.3, but really don't like it on the 6.2. I'll drive one to see... Why do you guys always do 4 low in the snow? What is the point of it? If you're doing something on a dry hill or rocks where you need lots of torque but not speed I get it, but why in the snow? it doesn't serve any purpose other than slowing you down when you need momentum. On vehicles like the Power Ram where the diff lock only works in low range (which is silly) I get it. Other than that I really like the snow videos!

    Fast Lane Truck. The 4WA setting is not anything new on Ford Trucks. The feature started appearing on trucks in 2011 in upper trims levels and then proliferated down the trim levels in subsequent years. The transmission/transfer case is identical (or near identical) to 2014 F-150. Everything else is brand new however.

    Price point comparison the 2015 F150 is a way better buy vs its competition in terms of features for $ as well as performance. Comparing a SLT Sierra for example to the Lariat, the leather in the Lariat and interior in the Ford is light years ahead of GM. Ram well, really dated in most of the interior and exterior features. The look and feel of the F150 has really taken a big step forward. Well done Ford.

    whats really fun is buying a used half blowed up, only dirt and rust holding it together, jeep cherokee off CL for a grand and taking it to the woods. no worries if you do hit a tree or get to tight in a creek bed and skin it up.

      My 96 Explorer has pretty much the same system, it called Control Trac and invented by Borg Warner. It came out in 95. I went to look at a new truck and the salesman said I sold your truck back when, the concept is exactly the same, maybe stronger better parts and software. 96 Explorers were the last to have the front axle disconnect(as opposed to always on 4wd vs a dedicated 2wd mode), these trucks have the same hardware on the front axle, it is vacuum actuated.

    Wishing my 2011 f150 4x4 had auto. My AWD Mazda seamlessly engaged AWD in snowy/icy conditions, which was way safer. More I need to anticipate icy/snowy spots in the road and engage 4x4 on the fly, which takes a while. I've hit some icy patches and started sliding around without enough time to engage 4x4. Safer on Michigan roads with 4x4 auto

    4x4 auto has been I'm Ford trucks and suvs for a while now, I have a 2003 Ford explorer with 4x4 auto, not as advanced as the new one I'm sure, but it turns on 4 wheel drive when needed as well as distributes power. Probably not as quick or smart as the newest systems though. Still loads of fun in the snow, I was just racing around on a snowy trail earlier, I had the same problem as you, couldn't stop laughing or smiling.

    With all due respect if you want an almost unstoppable truck you go with winter tires and an extra 600lbs in the back. I don't care for that tread design. Cant believe that is a snow rated tire. I've taken 2wd vehicles with winter tires through places my mother's jeep nearly got stuck with her standard studded tires.
    Looks like a lot of fun! I'm jealous big time.
