The big Vitpilen was a big surprise. Husqvarna put a lot of effort into marketing this machine, advertising its amazing design and telling everyone how they created a new motorcycle category basically. Which is true in my opinion. However they didn't talk about how competitive this Vitpilen actually is. Some of you saw the video on my channel where I went to visit the German Vitpilen media launch event in Berlin. Even there they didn't really mention its best sides. And that's why I was so surprised when I hit the twisties for the first time!!
The bike is very light (around 160kg) and at the same time very stable. The WP suspension works exceptionally well. It even offers a little comfort. But mainly it keeps the bike perfectly on the chosen line. My steering inputs were "translated" into precise actions. The bike handles perfectly neutral as well, it doesn't fall into lean awkwardly, it doesn't stand up when letting go off the throttle quickly during corners. Its superb handling in combination with the well working quickshifter did manage to put a huge smile on my face. The twisty road is where this bike belongs. In the city it bothered me actually because naturally the big single cylinder doesn't like low revs. And since the handlebars are rather short you need to apply a little force for steering which gets on my nerves when filtering in between cars. But once it's out in the twisties this machine simply is brilliant.

OOPS! When making this video I actually forgot about my two days of riding I had in Spain before hopping onto the Vitpilen. So this was NOT my first rideout actually. Sorry for that. Doesn't necessarily make the lines less embarrassing :D :D ENJOY!
I'm sorry but i dont like the sound of this bike. Sounds horrible. But i would like to see more videos to come in the future of your riding.

Yes, always my priority too. I don't think smashing into an oncoming car at a lean angle is really interesting. And if you stick to your lane you get more corner than when you skip it👌

Schaaf So why would you apologize with us about you being not as fast as you used to be? With my comment I wanted to show some love to you and your work, and also clarify that we enjoy your videos even if you are going at 10km/h, but it seems that you didn't get it, i'm sorry.
mm yes you're right here, that doesn't make too much sense for sure. I should stop quickly writing comments on the go. Let me explain: I stick to what I'm saying with me doing the quick riding for my own pleasure and not for your entertainment. The wildest and most fun rides I had I actually did not publish or did not even capture them. Because I thought they were too wild for Social Media. So that's that.
Why do I excuse my slow riding then, like you correctly pointed out? Well. I guess it simply is to prevent people from commenting too much about the slower speeds I'm doing now. Because I don't want to be reminded of this fact. Riding like I used to was giving me the greatest feelings I ever had in my whole life. But I can't do these any longer, I can't reach this relaxed yet focused state of mind which you need to be able to ride like that. And this makes me sad. Because I remember exactly how awesome it felt. And posting "excuses" is my weird way of dealing with this sadness I guess.

and now I just realised the following: where exactly do I excuse myself for the slow speeds? Seriously asking this since I got no time to rewatch the whole thing and I honestly can only remember excusing my shitty lines :D God I was working way too much today :X
Schaaf Thank's for the explanation! I took the excursing about the bad lines like an apology about your different pace, and seeing that I was afraid that you were feeling uncomfortable with it, and I'm happy to know that is not like this.

ich hab meine vitpilen 701 jetzt seit eineinhalb jahren, sie hat also nun den zweiten winter eingemottet vor sich - und spätestens wenn des ansteht, komm ich zu Schaaf's videos zurück und schwelge in Erinnerungen... also einerseits, ich liebe des bike so sehr und andererseits: so, so gute videos diese raw's und der roadtrip. merci dafür :)

I was at THE Husqvarna shop today where that is the only brand they sell and had a chance to sit in the 401 and 701. They don't have the Svartpilen yet but it was nice to see the Vitpilen. Beautiful machines.

Hatte die Vitpilen 701 als Werkstattmaschine während meine 701 SM zum Service war, absolut genial, wäre ich nicht zu groß hätte ich sie mir definitiv noch zusätzlich gekauft. Ist absolut souverän zu bewegen und wenn man sich etwas warm gefahren hat und die Maschine kennt, ist sie kinderleicht am Limit zu bewegen, setzt Lenkimpulse präzise um und die Bridgestone Bereifung die von Haus aus drauf war, gab einem immer ein wunderbares Feedback besonders im Grenzbereich.

Yes, some of your lines looked as bad as mine so I didn't mind it at all :-). But seriously, outside of an absence of peg scrapes, if you were riding easier it wasn't noticeable. This Raw video was as much fun as all the others. It's good to see you back. Ride well.

it is something about the sound from both Husqvarna and KTM that I like it is not just that Husqvarna do use KTM engines, on the Nuda they use a BMW engine and for me the best sounding bike on the planet it might be that they look a little innocent but sounds like a beast :D

Echt nice wenn man Bürokram macht und man hat keine Musik, sondern Schaafs Sound Only laufen, denn dann versucht man sich vorzustellen wie und was gerade gefahren wird. Außerdem ist es einfach schön dem gebraape zuzuhören.

Wow, this was The Best video that I have ever seen on CZcams. You did an excellent job with this video. Please use that chest mount more. Because it feels like we were riding with you in this video. And that is one my favorite motorcycles of the year. No one has made a video this good for that bike. It sounds good and looks good. Keep up the good work.

Do you mind answering the question as to why you chose to use a chestmounted camera position rather than the 'usual' helmet mounted one?

not at all. Because you're sitting with rather big forward lean it is difficult to get a decent POV from the helmet's chin. The chest position works better, gives you more of the bike as "visual reference"

About the only difference I can tell vs the old RAWs is no peg scraping sound :D The Vitpilen handled that road amazingly well given how bad that pavement was. Also the gimbal view is nice, certainly worth doing a few videos in it.

I’m about to buy a vitpilen 701 but i’m not sure if it’s enough confortable…I’ve tried the vitpilen 401 and I found it very unconfortable. Did you find the 701 as confortable ad the 401 or more confortable than the second one? I know it’s been 5 years since you tried these bikes but maybe you remeber it!

how does it compares to the KTM 690 ? and does it comes stock with up and down quickshifter ?
yes, QUickshifter is stock. I only rode old 690 models so the comparison wouldn't be a fair one
Wonderful ride! Reminds me of my modified Yamaha SR500 back in the 80s. I love the sound of most any motorcycle that's not heavily muffled, but a big single somehow sounds most manly.
You have nothing that needs excusing. The sound is fine, visuals too, and I couldn't ride any faster or lean any further than you did.

Yep i'm now drooling like a dog sitting waiting for his dinner!!! That was great fun and i thought you rode very well considering your history. Was the road that bad in parts or was it the chest mount that made it look worse than it was. I can't wait for the 401 video.
