    Cali shop is selling a vitpilen for $5.5k i love the styling but i dont see much longterm reviews. It is a ktm 690 and i do plan on making it a track bike.
    Great advice pal

    Simple solution to the kickstand- small piece of sheet metal/hard plastic will fit right in your pocket or buy a kickstand support that you clip onto your keychain. Handy to carry on no matter what you ride in case you have to park on soft ground. AFA your other dislikes, IMO the fully adjustable, top shelf suspension def makes up for the crappy kickstand & gauges

      oh this bike is a great bike. I highly recommend it. I wouldnt have bought the bike if I didnt. This bike makes me smile every time I take it out. I love the styling, the sound and motor are great and it handles like a champ, even on the knobby tires which has surprised me big time. I actually feel safer riding this bike in bad weather roads, than my other bikes right now.

    I paid 6500 for a 701 vit brand new no issues except it does run hot an slave i replaced immediately. I have a full arrow exhaust cat too an cobber ecu and 15/42 gearing for city riding. I have issue with the gauge going crazy a few times an was stranded once because of magnet in kick stand. I love the bike and its my first street bike 9000 miles in about 2 years.

      That's awesome I sold mine with bout 5000 miles on it. I replaced the slave cylinder before it was an issue and got fuel dongle just for smoother low rpm riding and had to replace the master cylinder which wore out but wasn't hard to do none of them.

    My 701 also flashes abs/TC failure every now and then which is a common issue I believe. Not a failure just overly sensitive and easily triggered. I get 70 to 80 UK mpg so 200 miles out of a tank. Just ignore the fuel gauge as it shows empty when it's still about half full. Overall, the most fun bike I've owned in many years and don't regret buying it one bit.

    1. Why dont you just put a thick clip-on enlagement pod on the sidestand?
    2. ageed, the cheap dash comes directly from the 401. What can you expect? hope someone comes up with a better aftermarket piece.
    rev limit? just try, it has a rev limiter, you’ll see how far it goes.
    and if it does weird things, there has been a recall.
    3. that’s a 2018?
    the clutch cylinder has been a recall as well!
    4. allways keep the battery fully charged. these electronics are pissy with mediocre charging.
    heating grips and additional lights might be too much already.

    Bikes that lean are what you want. I hate it when you have a bike standing up straight it’s dangerous. That’s the case no matter what when not on flat ground. At least with this design you can turn the bike around and you’re golden because it leans more

    So, how do you feel about it after a year? I see that you're on a farm and probably have the mechanical knowledge to service it yourself. I've heard that professional servicing costs a mint for those of us have neither the know how, or the space and kit to attempt it themselves.

    • @bikerbeliever8169
      @bikerbeliever8169  Před rokem +2

      Regular maintenance like oil changes I think anybody can do or learn how to do, chain maintenance. Only major costs or dealer musts imo for most would be tire changes and valve services, maybe brakes but really none of these are super hard just take time. That being said my first service on the svartpilen was only like $150ish I think, so that's not horrible bad price. Most expensive service probably be tires and valve checks. Lots of videos and things to learn how to do these things though if motivated and have time.

    Which bar-end mirrors are those? I'm looking for a pair. I agree with your point on rev matching, it was one of the first things I noticed.
    Did you into the boosters plug? I'm on the fence between the rottweiler dongle and the booster plug.
    BTW, it's been a great canyon carver here in Nor. Cal.

      They are Fenrir, and they are very good, I actually ordered them for my Moto Guzzi as well. About $60, very solid, strong, sturdy mirror. I got the Fuel Dongle on my Svartpilen 701 and it makes a big difference, noticeable right off the bat for me. Lot smoother transition from low rpm to high rpm, doesnt buck and carry on when just normal taking it easy riding, much better than stock. For $30 you cant beat the fuel dongle, definitely helped with the bike running way to lean at light throttle in low revs.

    Great video! I stumbled on this video because I am looking at this bike. There is a bike in my area for about $9,999 with just over 2,000 miles on it. It is a 2020. It has a few extras on it like heated grips and a windscreen. Is this bike an all arounder to you? It also seems like the single cylinder engine might tend to struggle on the highway. I do not know, I have never owned or ridden a single cylinder engine bike I have shied a way from the in the past. What about the single disc upfront? Also, what year is your bike? It is not clear to me. I have not seen any 2022 models, I have checked the website. Did they stop making this bike? Thanks

      I've not rode the 401 but from my understanding it's a great bike and probably the better first bike. However at 6 foot 2 the 701 will be the better fit I'd imagine. The 701 is better in the long term. More power and stuff but the 401 does good so I hear. The 401 can be had for good price too around $5k. It's gonna be the better first bike for sure, the 701 the better second bike or long term bike.

    • @bikerbeliever8169
      @bikerbeliever8169  Před 3 lety +1

      No, I honestly dont know. I asked around on the forums about it, but havent found any direct answer yet. I changed my slave cylinder at around 1000 miles and the stock unit looked perfectly fine, no signs of wear or failing seal at all. That being said I still changed it since I had already ordered the oberon unit for peace of mind. I think though if they are having issues at the factory with people forcing the seals into place when they install them (I have no idea but this would be my educated guess?). Its an easy job, but if you do it take your time and make sure you lube the seal with dot 4 and slowly work it into place and dont force it. If you do its possible your setting yourself up for it to fail again.

    • @metaphox
      @metaphox Před 3 lety +2

      I bought a Vitpilen built Dec 2020, the slave cylinder failed last week, after a merely 1834 KM. Caught me off guard and stranded me on the road. So I bet the stock ones are still bad.

    • @adamdowns3075
      @adamdowns3075 Před 3 lety +2

      @@metaphox that was more what I was wondering, because I’ve been looking at the Svart 701 for a second bike, but, I would be doing longer rides with it and don’t want to be stuck. The only thing I’ve read or heard so far is that nothing has been resolved that I know of, and I don’t want a new bike that already has to have something done like that.

    • @bikerbeliever8169
      @bikerbeliever8169  Před 3 lety +3

      I think its a factory issue. The seals may not be good, but whoever is installing them at the factories is forcing them in way to hard and tearing them and not lubing them before installing the. Thats my internal conspiracy theory I got going lol. It is an easy job to do though to change it out, like I mean an hour if you take your time. Realistically if having any mechanical skills it should take 20 to 30 mins.

    • @bikerbeliever8169
      @bikerbeliever8169  Před 3 lety +1

      I think it may be across the whole lineup. Join the vitpilen group on facebook, they are extremely helpful. That said on my 701 I was past 1000 miles on my stock slave cylinder and just changed it for peace of mind, even though when I examined it, it was fine. I did take it easy during break in period though, and always shut my bike off when sitting still and consciously tried to not let the bike get overly hot. These bikes do run hot, but so far I have had no issues out of my bike it has been dead reliable and a hoot.
