Sony ZV-1 II (best vlogging camera 2024?)

I’m testing another camera out and this is the new Sony ZV-1 MII - the latest update to Sony’s Vlogging compact camera. I wanted to do a review on this camera because I think it’s a great camera for those who want to start a Vlog or CZcams channel or if you are looking to get a b-cam or to increase the quality of the footage of your videos if you are currently shooting with a phone or action camera.
I think this is one of the best budget high quality Vlogging cameras that is currently on the market. If I didn’t have a ton of cameras already, I would definitely keep this in my bag.

I can't believe I forgot to talk more about the price. I think because I subconsciously knew I probably wasn’t going to keep the camera, I inadvertently didn’t talk about the price 🤦🏻and if I thought it was worth it. So I'll do my best quickly here. I do think it's worth the price if you are looking for a high quality compact camera for Vlogging (for the 18mm wider lens). Add to that, Son'y active stabilization and amazing auto focus technology, it's just a really awesome little camera that provides really crisp and clean 4k footage with the ability to get cinematic shots.
But if those aren't really going to be useful for you and you don't plan to shoot 4k, then no, it's definitely not worth the price and honestly I would just stick to a phone or good action cam.
And lastly, if money is no object, I would invest in the big brother cam, the Sony ZV-E1 - a full frame beast of a camera. You can watch my review of that here: czcams.com/video/DAL7p-JM7U8/video.html
Great points, but then the issue becomes finding a camera that does good 1080 quality.
I read that the ZV1 does. Do you think that it is still a better idea to use a smartphone or action camera?
Why do content creators still pay good money on cameras just to film only in 1080? Is that because good 1080 is almost as good as 4k, or the file is 3 times smaller
@@spirittravels. I think the reason a lot of non tech content creators shoot in 1080 is definitely the file size as well as ease of editing. But more so the file size as most new devices can handle 4k editing. One of my vlogs will average about 70-80gb of footage shooting in 4k 30p.
If I wasn’t tech savvy and didn’t already have a camera, I would have started my CZcams journey on my iphone or action camera.

In fact the iPhones are known for good video quality. A GoPro also does great video.
The ZV1 range just has the edge with its Zooming ability and image quality.

I’m literally OBSESSED with your home and decor! It is so minimal and beautiful! The footage from the zv1 mark ii looks so nice but the zoom sound omg lol! I was between the canon m200 and zv1 right before the zv1 mark ii came out and went with the canon! Slightly wishing I would have gone Sony now for more portability

Nice review. I have been using a Canon G7X for the past three years which has been great for low-light filming, which I do a lot as I cover Las Vegas at different times of the day. I just came off a road trip and the G7X started having issues. I am looking to replace the camera, either buying another G7X or replacing it with something else. The G7X has always had issues with the autofocus, which I've learned to work around. I was researching the best vlogging cameras and the Sony ZV-1 MII came up. In searching YT your video came up, I liked the review as you covered most of the shooting situations that I do. However, low-light shooting wasn't included in your review. Did you have a chance to do low light with the ZV1-II? If so, what was the experience? Also, what was the battery life like during your review?
Hi there! You’re totally right, I forgot to test the low light capabilities of this camera but I do know it performs well in low light and definitely better than the g7x as it has a newer, better sensor that handles low light better. The autofocus is also much better. Sony has the best AF on the market. As far as battery life, that’s probably its weakest area as the batteries are small to keep the camera small. With that said, easy enough to carry a few extra spares or a portable battery as you can charge the camera via USB-C. Hope this helps!

Hi there! Tricky to answer since the price points are drastically different especially considering you'd need a lens for the ZV-E1 but with that said, if you have the budget, the ZV-E1 is a way better camera overall and something you can grow with for years to come! It's got just enough auto settings to get your started but then as you learn, you can have more control. Hope this helps!
Oh! There's also some rumors coming out that there might be a ZV-E10 II (lol at all these ZV's). This camera sits in the middle of these cameras both in price point and quality.
Thank you for your honesty on the ZV-1M2.I returned mine, could not justify for a Pocketcam costing one grand. Bestbuy had no sonys on display by me at all, that is the sign of consolidating that store in the next 6 months while one already closed shop glad they accepted the return without a blink of an eye! if i did not have the ZV-1F and no other Sony, I would have kept mine

@@MikeeRogers I personally enjoy it matches everything the 1M2 has less a few. what hte 1F has over the M2 is EV value on AI. they disabled it and allowed you to use the brightness feature, night scenes are perfect for me on the 1F.. so for m that was my reason not to hold on to it that the 1F shines in its own glory...
Did you have to pay a restocking fee? I can’t find a single Best Buy that has this camera on display! I called a few today and they all said they don’t have any floor models of the Sony. So sad! I am just nervous to buy and have to pay a large restocking fee! Beat buy’s website says it is a restocking fee of 15% of the item😳
@@SarahhhBeth I didn’t have to pay a restocking fee. No questions asked when I returned. I think Amazon has a 30-day return policy and I believe there’s no restocking fee. If you have any local camera stores, they might have one on display!
@@SarahhhBeth No. their Policy is 14 day full refund no restocking fee, online has an option of 100 day return with restocking fee of up to 35%. I was lucky to get my model re-purchased at a large discount, I love this camera

This was one of the best videos I've seen on this camera and your absolutely right no one mentioned the noise on the zoom I ordered the camera anyway for other key reasons I think it's still a great camera.

hi, I have a ZV-E1 and I’m thinking of getting a ZV1 II as a replacement for my gopro hero 11 cause I’m disappoint with the video quality of the gopro indoors especially when compared with the ZV-E1. I was wondering can the ZV1 II can keep up with the video quality of the ZV-E1? From this video that you showed us, I was blown away. Can you share your views regarding the video quality? and lastly does the ZV-E1 II have slog3? thanks
Hi there! I feel you with action cams lacking that video quality in low light. The ZV-1ii would blow away that GoPro footage. If I didn’t have a a7iv I would have for sure kept the camera as the video quality is amazing. I’m not sure about slog3 though. I’m very new to editing so I shoot s cinetone on my ZV-E1 for minimal editing.

Hey Richard. I don’t believe there’s no way to pause a recording other than hitting the start and stop record button.
I might have missed it - did you grade any of the footage or is it just straight out of the camera? it looks really good in different lighting!
Yea, I did a slight grade - well actually I just downloaded a LUT when I started Vlogging and have been using it ever since and don't adjust much else other than exposure.
I'm really impressed with the quality of the footage!

I know it's my third comment, but I keep having questions 😅 I wonder if you can hear the motor when using an external mic? I know most people buy this camera with intention not to use a mic on top, but im still curious. If anything, I think it gives off that old school handycam vibe😅 consider it an SFX that you don't need to add in post 😅
Lol all good, ask away! You can hear it on an external mic but not as loud. And it’s definitely not a deal breaker for me. I’m not trying to make a film here just a vlog lol! And omg you’re right, it totally gives off a vintage vibe 🤣🤣. I would say if it really bugs someone, as long as you don’t talk while zooming, you can always edit in post to decrease the sound.

All audio from the ZV-1 II was the internal mic

Hi cuz! I was able to review/film quick so that I could be in the return period lol so I returned it today. If you wait awhile, I'm sure some will pop up on offer up or marketplace. There's also a Sony ZV-1F that is similar at almost half the cost! That might be a good option, what's Caleb filming?

Yea, I was tempted to get the ZV-1F awhile back but I think the focusing needs to be updated then it will be a great Vlog camera!

I would say a great place online would be Amazon (free returns) or if you have a local Best Buy.
I can recommend setting the internal mic volume to 20 instead of the factory setting of 26 to reduce the zoom volume to barely noticeable in silent environments. Should still pick vlogging and ambient sounds adequately at that volume
