  • The Plitvice Lakes comprise a beautiful group of 16 lakes about half-way between Split and Zagreb, near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina close to Bihac. The lakes are renowned for their distinctive colours, ranging from azure to green, grey or blue, changing constantly depending on the quantity of minerals or organisms in the water and on the angle of the sunlight. The Plitvice Lakes National Park (Croatian: Plitvička jezera) is also known for its many waterfalls. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
The sixteen lakes comprise an upper and lower cluster formed by runoff from the mountains, descending from an altitude of 636 m to 503 m over a distance of approx. eight km. The lakes collectively cover an area of about two km², with the water exiting from the lowest lake to the Korana River.

If so far you have not been there, go and see this beautiful work of nature. You have to see.
This is a string of 16 lakes located at different altitudes (from 503 to 636 meters above sea level), separated by waterfalls.
