I CAN'T BELIEVE I Got These!

  • I've been wanting to add these to the collection for some time now, but the timing just wasn't right. After some consideration and a lot of research, I decided that I wanted to get a pair of Suriname Toads! When I finally saw them in person, I couldn't believe how bizarre and cool they are. I really hope I'm able to get them to thrive and do well for me.
Also, as I said in the video, they were sold to me as captive-bred animals. I'm not sure I believe that's true though because of how large they are. I really try not to support when possible, so I'd rather not disclose where I bought them.
Besides that, I've been gathering up materials for their new home and can't wait to get started. I know you're going to love it!

What do you think of the new additions? We ended up naming them Pancake and Flapjack because of how flat they are! I can't wait to hopefully share more on them as well as show you where they will live very soon. Also, what do you think of the progress of the new plywood tanks? I'm really excited to almost be done with construction.

I kept a Pipa Pipa years ago, they're a favorite of mine, and I got to see one in the wild in Peru. I find the details of their anatomy fascinating. The split finger tips down to microscopic levels, their hips built flat to support faster forward thrusting for capturing prey, and of course the eggs to fully formed froglettes in their back, their fingers used as a net to scoop prey into their mouth, etc...
The speed at which they catch prey is insane and worth showing.

I’m so happy to see these on your channel!!! I love these oddballs.
I got my first Surinam toad when I was maybe 10, and it lived in our living room until I was 20-something. I’ve had a couple others since then, but couldn’t move cross country with them. I’m primarily a tarantula keeper now, but I still want to get a breeding pair eventually.
Mine was always fairly easy to keep. After discovering that mine never wanted to come out of the water, I kept mine all fully aquatic. They also ate almost exclusively feeder fish with a few supplements.
I think there’s a good chance yours are captive bred. A lot of people get them because they’re neat, not knowing how large they get and the space they require (not to even speak of filtration). I’ve seen them on rehousing lists many times. Perhaps yours are part of that.
I can’t wait to see the set up you make for yours and I really can’t wait to see more from them. 💜🕷

I’m an ecology student and I caught two of these as a field assistant while electro fishing in a really shallow stream in the Ecuadorian Amazon! Super cool frogs

I had no idea these could be kept in captivity. I've seen plenty stuff on them in the wild, so it'll be super cool to see how yours do in captivity.

Great video! Have you ever considered keeping red salamanders in one of your builds? They’re so cool! Keep up the great work!

I'd love to see updates on your older tanks. just to see how they have established.

I cant wait to see what you put in those plywood tanks! Random question; have you ever considered keeping mourning geckos? i would love to see what kind of habitat you would build for them.

I'm most excited for another plywood vivarium build (hope you didn't need to use as many clamps in this one). Also, those toads are really cool!

I can't wait to see how they look in the setup! Things are looking so clean, very excited to see what's in store. By the way is there much of an update on the 250 gallon? I'd be curious to know how the tank is going, although I assume you'll wait until you put the BGK in right?

I have been filming stuff on the 350 since the last video and have it stocked already, but I was waiting to do the video. Still debating on if I should wait for the BGK or not. I will say though that the tank is doing incredibly well.

I never knew these cool little critters existed! I love their back feet, they're so big they remind me of umbrellas
