    Who are we?
We are a European couple from Germany (Alex) and the Netherlands (Mandy), sailing around the Med on our 36ft sailboat. 12 months ago we started our journey in Greece with little sailing experience, figuring things out as we go, thinking we know what we are getting ourselves into. Our goal is to circumnavigate the world on our 36ft Beneteau. Sailboat life is super different from land life. It is fantastic and pretty rough at times. see the little things tries to FIND HAPPINESS BY DOING THINGS THAT ARE HARD. Join us on this journey and let's find happiness together!

Also, if I may add, best practice is fill the new filter 1/2 full of the new oil so the oil pump doesn't suck air and dry run. Let sit for a few miniutes before installing, which will saturate the filter material. Awesome channel folks. 👍

Always check the old oil filter after you pull it off to make sure the seal came off also. I’ve had the old seal stay stuck to the block (I didn’t notice) and I screwed the new on top of it, filled it up with oil and start it. Oil came out flying everywhere! Opps!

While the filter is on the engine still. Put a plastic bag around it. This way the oil should mostly go in the bag.....Little kitchen paper just below to catch the drips :-) Keep a diary of Maintainance......feel free to use a permanent marker to write the date you changed it on the filter it's self. We usually keep spares of the engine service parts and spark plugs on the boat. Each change we will buy another set of filters and so on. The main thing you got to watch out for is the diesel fuel, 80% of engine problems come from the fuel so feel free to "upgrade" the pre fuel filter off the engine. You can also give the fuel a "polish" you basically make a small device using a filter and cycle it around your fuel tank. This way will get the water and the big bits out. Patrick Laine did a video on it.

You should have drained from the oil drain pipe located right side of the oil filter.

I learned a tip from Chris fixx , when filling oil , turn your container sideways so it is flat. It will pour smoother.

Well done, just small notice if you keep the engine cap open while vacuuming the oil, will be helpful, and some people by nature like to do challenge ( even if it called stubed things ) 😁, nice episode

Tip 1: Remove the filler cap to let air in, as you pump the oil out.
Tip 2 : Make sure you get the longer oil filter. They upped the capacity ...
Tip 3: WEAR gloves ... contaminated oil can be carcinogenic.

Your MD2030 volvo penta is really a perkins M30 .Volvo had Perkins make the 2010.2020 , 2030, 2040 for them
Parts are cheap from parts4engines .com in England half the price of ripoff Volvo

Rube Goldberg would be proud. Electric motors don't need oil change.

They are smarter than me and approach this job way more efficiently and safely, it wouldn’t do justice ;) But in all honesty, if you’re a sailor girl, join the Facebook group „women who sail“. It’s such a different and helpful vibe compared to other know-it-all sailing groups
