018 Suprising nr of hours on our MD2030 diesel

- We bought the boat not knowing how much hours the engine had ran. A sister ship we know did 3500 so that was my best guess. But after repairing the Volvo MD2030 hour counter display and booting it up I was in for quite a surprise! :).

So, now we know and we can pick up the servicing of this engine on the nr hours it ran. Nice!
For those who don't know me or us: We are Jan, Sacha and Stef, nice to e-meet you! Great to learn you found this video which is a stap in preparing to set sail in 2024 on our Koopmans aluminum 36 foot Sailboat, Wind Rose.
The plan was conceived in 2006 and we have been working towards it ever since. With the purchase of Wind Rose, our go anywhere aluminum sailboat, we committed to our departure.
We don't know the destination(s), the duration or the route yet, but we do know we want to make the change and explore the world. At least for a year but who knows what happens.
Why 2024, you might wonder. Something with school and the hope Stef will join us at least parts of the trip. Also, we have to improve our sailing skills, our comfort level doing so and some upgrades to Wind Rose. But when does a journey start? For us it already did. Preparing is just an intermediate step between every sail :).
Here on CZcams we take you along in our preparation with regular updates. Because Jan likes it and likes to show you that you can alter course if you put your mind to it.

Some people say to put circuit board in dishwasher
That one I did not come across on the Dutch fora. I did read quite a few people with succes by replacing the display and in my case that at least solved it. I guess it’s also not the display itself but the connections in/ to it that break. But not sure, maybe it was something else…

Why is the needle not pointing at 0 when you power up the panel?
Will this not cause the wrong RPM reading when you start the engine?
That actually is a very good point! I never realised this. I did adjust the idle (stationary?) rev’s. Also I had a discussion on how much revs I should make but I tend to listen to the engine rather than look at the revs. But fair point! Thanks for pointing it out!
