Camera equipment is a huge topic in the filmmaking world and I feel like many new filmmakers get too caught up in their gear and forget about the important aspects of creating videos. There is the overall wrong assumption that "an expensive camera will make your films better". I don't agree with this at all as I've been shooting on a fairly cheap camera (Sony A6500) for the last three years and was still able to compete with big production companies. Over the years I learned a lot about making the most out of the gear you already own and I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the topic. The potential of your camera is so much higher than you think, so try to max it out before you buy a new one! I hope you enjoy the video!

Loved this man, great storytelling, editing and message ! Love from the UK
Hi I am so glad I found your channel! Great personality and inspiring advice. Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words! Happy to have you in this community 😁🙌🏽
🥰
So true- I shoot on a Sony a6400 too and I love the concept that you mention about maxing out the equipment you have! Such an important idea, so many people are ready to buy their way up without learning the fundamentals
I shoot sports w/the a6400, & I saw on your video title you said you're in Ny😆 I'm in queens, small world. Keep shooting. Keep. Learning. Keep trying. Never forget why you started. Shoot and create For You first and foremost. Have fun :)
I have the a6500 and the a7iii. I must agree. I shoot mostly with the a6500 as its so portable and the cropped lenses are smaller and easier to carry (example 10-18 on a6500 vs 14-24sigma on a7iii). Makes it so much easier to travel. I am convinced to upgrade from the Mavic Air Original to the MA2. Such a big difference.
This is truly incredible content! Thank you
I learned a lot from you and you honestly explain it good I’m glad that I found you before anyone else
Love the kitchen analogy
I’m so glad I found your channel. Very informative and inspiring content . I want to learn more from you. 😍

Thanx for the motivation bro...really need it..♥️✨
Hey man I really like your channel so far and I would be very interested in some detail ideas / tips on how to pack emotions into a video and/or craft a good story. That would be pretty damn cool :) Greetings from Hamburg!
This is so true. I’m using my iPhone 11 Pro for now and I’m at a point where I’m just learning more about it and get more use out of it as a camera. Forces me to be more creative in my shots. Gets me thinking
*when i get demotivated ... man u just say the right thing to cheer me up🤘*
I like your message. Do what you can with what you have and make it amazing. I'm at the starting point of trying to learn these skills myself. Watching content like this helps. Don't know what I'm doing right now but I'll get there. Cool content. Look forward to next vid.
Thanks man, glad I could help 😁
Great thought. Thanks for motivating.
I love your advices and I think your content is so helpful
Totally right, I am just starting with a Canon m50 mark ii, it's a great entry level camera and when I learn more, there's stI'll plenty of options I haven't used that are more advanced. The content is what's going to matter more.
Thanks...I really needed this 😫💞
You inspire me so much to improve my skill, as for now i have only been using my iphone to shoot all my videos. Hopefully i can reach your level in film making one day! Thanks for the tips

I'm starting from scratch with a ZV -1. It hasn't arrived yet, and I'm very excited about it. I'll probably stick to it for years.
Much love from Kenya
I absolutely love your videos and your positive attitude and transparency. I've been very inspired by your videos and have took the leap to begin my own business ventures. Thank you for your inspiring and informative content 😊
This video is awesome
Thank you 😊
I'm happy that starting from beginning doesn't have to be with the most expensive equipment and that skill will come in time not in the money I spend thanks!
Niklas do you edit your text and graphics with after effects, or do everything in your editing program ?
Thanks
I'm currently shooting on my sony a6000 and my dji mini 2😊 I'm currently try to swich my mindset to get the best out of my gear an my passion and it is awsome to work with gear you know👍
Love your videos. So clean. Discovered you through a CZcams algorithm recommendation. I’m just starting out on video myself and finding myself trying to get gear (like the R5), but yes you’re right that it’s about the story and other elements
Nice job Niklas! I see Peter McKinnon numbers in your future!
Awesome bro ❤️

Hey bro this video is awesome and clear many thoughts I think about camera. 😇

From the day I know your channel I've binged watch you CZcams videos it actually amazing keep it up bruh I Wich we can meet one day✌️❤️
Eso es muy cierto, no es la camara sino el ojo que lo captura.
We've come to a point where there the quality differences attainable on a phone as compared to a Red have narrowed. Broader differences - where one should be putting more effort than camera money - are to found with sound, and lighting, not to mention the story and actors' performance. For tight-budget dramatic (fictional) films shot on a stage or in a house, one can get great lighting/visual effects by using color and diffusion gels on fairly inexpensive lighting devices (I've seen some really nice, soft lighting from large Japanese paper lanterns). Think about the depth of your shot (the space behind your talent), textures, furnishings and colors. Make sure your talent is wearing a good color of clothing for the topic and the background. Look at the work of good directors for tips on facial and hair lighting. As for sound, reasonably good mics can be had for under $300. Pay attention to the position of your mic...I use a boom pole mounted on a C-stand with a mic cradle...get it in as close to your talent as you can. Monitor the audio with headphones and get away from an ambient noise such as a refrigerator or air conditioning. Pay attention to your shot composition as well as the location and job of your practical lighting (lighting you'd expect to see in the environment, such as table lamps in a bedroom). What decorative objects should be removed from your set and what should be added. As for lighting, I usually start with the key light and then add the other lights. My taste has always run to somehow including colorful fabrics and artwork in backgrounds (pillows, furniture, clothing, table cloths). Much of what I've suggested here can be done without cost. The lighting, gels, audio equipment mentioned here can make the fact you are using a cheapo camera insignificant., and can be acquired for a few thousand USD.
Thanks Niklas!!!Very good vídeo!!!
:) Great. Always inspirational
thanks you my friend this video much about camera.
Thanks brother ❤️❤️
Your Colours are amazing, what picture profile do you use?
what are the settings for your camera ???????????
Preach !!!
Thank you! from Cambodia
I do agree with You! a lot of big film makers are saying is not about your gear is all about the story You are saying. And that where I am lacking the most. I don't know how to tell a story through a video :( In some way I wish You to make a video how You making a video around the story. How You thinking process looks like and so on. :) I would really appreciate that.
Which camera and lense are you using please reply me...
Golden advice
Great video bro
I 100% agree with what your were talking about cameras. I'm currently starting with a Photoshop cours for better Thumbnails on CZcams. I really wanna get as big as you are!
does someone knows the location from shot of the stairs at 4:15 is ?
Danke für die Motivation! Ist genau das was ich hören musste...
Yes I agree withe you
...agree
thanks for your time.
Coole Sache zu sehen wie du arbeitest. Tolles Video....Hoffe dir geht's gut 👍 Lg. Mike
what are ur video settings on sony a6500?
I use an iPhone 13Pro and a DJI Osmo 3 gimbal. Not many settings to worry about. Just point and shoot. I've learned a lot from Niklas about storytelling and editing. And don't forget sound. You can have the best 4K video on CZcams but if your sound is terrible, you'll have low retention.
I had to hit the Like button when you opened your wallet. I love that subtle humor.
Hell yeah!
Bravo!! You are building a fantastic yt channel (I don’t believe why there are for now so little nubres on views for your videos, but that will change), I am really impressed with the quality and interesting journey you are going on, huge respect, I wish you continued successful journey with work&fun
You are awesome buddy 😘

Amazing content.
Niklasssss You're the best!🤍Recently discovered your channel but I'm glad I did. Lots of love & respect from India. ❤
i shoot on the panasonic g6 300 usd and it looks very good
Super Video.
Dadurch lernst du alles was wichtig ist. Man kann noch so viele Tutorials gucken, was dich aber am Ende weiter bringt ist Übung. Also nimm dein Handy/Cam geh raus und shoote. Egal was :)
I have a question. While i want to catch some vidoes by my phone and i cant shot them in RAW, what should i do than?
What lense and camera are you using please tel me ... I'm from Pakistan
You changed my mind dude, "Great"
What happened to CZcams algorithm??? Ahhn... This video is so important... Don't you see..?? Your video deserve more dude.. I love your way of presenting❤
i am so glad my dad owns a camera can not wait to start!!
thank brother1
Thanks.
I have Nikon 5300 D it's fine or not? 😁
ur are amazing man and filmmaker
A challenge video that MADE ALL BY PHONE would be mind blowing in your channel🤩
Hey I have a question i am 15 yo and i am passionated by the filmmaking world. for now i have an olympus, this model is done for photography and it is like a camera for walking,it's waterproof and protected. I use the one of mt parents, i can't put lenses on it or plug a mic either. I can still shoot with a little 4k i think or 1080p and the camera can record up to 120fps.but i asked myself if i should change it because sometimes i would really want to use it with lense.... So my question is should i buy another camera or is it good for the moment and i'll just wait untill i grow up. One part of me want a better camera but idk if at my age i would have a 1000 € camera and my other part thinks i don't really need it for my films for the moment. Could you advise me ? And thank you so much your video does inspire me, continue !
The best camera is our own skills and knowledge on how we apply it. Camera thing itself is just our material
nice bro ,, love from indonesia
