I exercise 90 minutes per and i have for over 20 years. At 55, my blood pressure started to rise. I was eating 6 egg whites per day with oatmeal for breakfast 20:49 -2 to 4 chicken breast- 1 to 2 cans of tuna- with 1 to 2 bags of frozen broccoli. I stayed away from sugar , dairy , bread-
on Labor day, 2023, i went plant based to see if it would help. My blood pressure is down 50 points systolic and over 20 points diastolic. Beans daily! Still Working out 90 minutes per day

Thank you for your time, dedication to spread healthy foods. You have so much knowledge which started to get crowded in the body cell’s especially the communication centres to get out. Please please please look after your health and too much stress is not good. We all have to slow down to practice what we know. Speed and quick delivery of words indicate very busy mind & very busy body. As doctors we have to be good models especially when we teach. Please forgive for my direct positive feedback as I want to hear you clearly. Just Yesterday bought your book on eBay for £4.50 and he cheated me as it is not the new edition but still good . Received Yesterday read section on high blood pressure, cancer, and medical mistakes which professor Keller in Edinburgh in my examination told him when he asked me what operation you do for a65 years old woman admitted with incontence, taking her history , examining her nothing but she had Nocturia wetting the bed when alcoholic husband sleep beside her in a rented room in a house where land lord want to make sex with her after coming from a job as shop assistant. Told the professor she doesn’t need an operation she needs to improve her socio economic status . He stood up from his chair and said I wish 50 percentage of our doctors takes such history, then said no, no, if only 20 percentage we will be in good position . Then he said how many operations we did for wrong reasons? Then he asked what do you like to drink,? I replied white coffee please with out sugar. He rang the bell. This is 12/ 1970 in Royal Infirmary Edinburgh, Scotland, doing my part 2 examination in general surgery and Gynaecology and Obestetrician. This story to confirm what dr Greger wrote. It is true . I have seems a lot of mistakes.

As someone who experienced low ferritin levels and hair loss at the beginning of my plant-based journey as well as a more recent diagnosis of anemia and more hair loss that I'm now recovering well from, this is my advice:
    - Get your ferritin levels checked at least once a year to make sure you're in the normal range.
    - Avoid tea with meals, like he said. This is what got me the first time. It's thought that coffee and soy also impair absorption and there are definitely studies that show soy does, although in my case it wasn't nearly as dramatic as the tea was. Tea will block 90%+ of iron and only took less than 6 months to decimate my levels, but soy seemed to be a slower burn taking years to wear my iron stores out, and I drink a lot of soy milk, so that's saying a lot.
    - Avoid foods, drinks, and supplements with calcium when you're taking iron
    - Consider a chelated supplement if your ferritin is low. I take 25mg/day of iron bisglycinate, which is easy on the digestive tract
    - Take the supplement on an empty stomach with plain orange juice (NOT fortified with calcium!)
    - I also take my omega 3 algae oil and D3 supplements at the same time, as these aren't considered to impair iron absorption, and D3 is a fat soluble vitamin (technically hormone, I know.)
    - Wait an hour before eating any food. If you take the iron later in the day, wait 2 hours after a meal to take it, and then wait 1 hour to eat. I always take it when I wake up so I don't have to fast as long.
These steps work amazingly well for me and I'm happy to say my head is covered in little sprouting baby hairs again and my blood work is looking better and better each time. This is my routine for life now.

Thanks, Dr. Greger! Re: Rachel Walford: I wonder if she's referring to the phytates in soy beans preventing nutrient absorption? Soy beans are known to have high levels of phytates (if I'm remembering correctly) and phytates bind to minerals, which is why sprouting, or at least soaking, soy beans is recommended. Trader Joe's sells sprouted tofu, BTW. Phytates are the main reason why I don't eat flax seeds. They are the most concentrated in seeds and I was experiencing signs of malnutrition, when I was eating the tablespoon of flax meal, every day, per the Daily Dozen checklist. I get my omega-3's from soaked and dehydrated walnuts, instead. Anyway, phytates can definitely mess with nutrient absorption and soybeans are one of the highest sources of them, in terms of beans and legumes.

I had the opportunity about two years or so ago to watch an online dialogue between about two dozen biochemists who were discussing prospective hypotheses and experimental work that they were looking at doing for their respective institutions' and organizations' labs, etc., and they got onto the subject of curcumin and its bioavailability from within their experiences in trying to work with it in a variety of experiments (human and animal, if I recall correctly) in recent years, discussed a variety of claims that have been made for it even from RCTs, and without exception they all expressed mystification and disbelief in what was being published and claimed about it since none of them had ever been able to identify a path to sufficient bioavailability for it even when using black pepper or piperine as a biopotentiator. It seems like this leaves a serious question open for those making claims and supposedly showing data from its clinical use, directly or via turmeric. Has this been resolved within the specialties somehow?

I just came across an article stating that industrial seed producers sell seeds that grow out less nutritional fruits and veggies . The tomato was singled out as having less than half the minerals , vitamins and antioxidants found in heirloom varieties. Organic gardening practices were of little to no help in remediating this situation . HELP.

Vitamin D and B12 are not fortified in food in Germany either. Couldn't both vitamins be added to plant milk or other drinks in liquid form? How much should there be in 1 litre of liquid? I make my own toothpaste, how much B12 drops should I add per 100 g/ml container?

Dr. G, could you please do a video on Omega 7. I am a scientist-clinician so resonate totally to your evidence-based approach. Needless to say, my family kitchen and approach to health parallel yours. Several years ago on a speaking engagement to the Middle East, I learned about omega 7 and its well documented vascular benefits from a colleague. After some weeks of scrolling the literature, there was much to recommend it healthwise. Although I believe a healthful diet as per MG covers the bases, my husband’s parents both succumbed to strokes. Being preventive, I encourage him to take seabuck horn oil daily. I remind him I would have him stop if I found evidence to the contrary. Clearly, the less ingested supplemental stuff the better, but I am uncertain why omega 7s are not discussed more in general particularly when they appear so conducive to supporting circulatory health. Or, is taking this overshoot? Should we simply focus on our vegan diet as is? Really looking for clarification on this one. Professor-Elizabeth

I would go for the organic non-fortified soy milk, avoiding the glyphosate, and supplement with B12 and D rather than consuming the non organic fortified soy milk. If your objective is wholesomeness, to me that's a more wholesome approach than avoiding supplements but taking in toxins.

Re: yellow skin. Can be hepatitis, liver symptom. But that would include yellowing of whites of eyes. The body tells you if eating is excessive. Too yellow or orange means cut back. One can spread out nutrition over a week. No need to overmax everyday. Huge amounts of vitamins and/or minerals are part of medicinal healing protocols addressing specific ailments. If you have to constantly eat to get rid of hunger then warm foods with protein and fat likely too low. If no autoimmune or other issues a concern go back to animal food to supplement which is where B12 is plentiful. What if someday B12 supplements aren't available? or to fortify foods? Clams, fish from rivers and ocean, bison, beef, pork, sheep, venison, poultry, dairy, etc are satiating and nutritious. Much as I agree with increasing plant consumption, it's a Western luxury to access the variety of plant foods and supplements promoted. At some point world deprivation may require knowledge of multiple food sources from plants to animals. American lifestyle especially includes alot of indulgence.
Enjoy plants, but keep an open mind to human history. Eat less in general so more to go around.
8 pm end of work shift.
How about limit eating window to 12 hour days with longer fasting on days off or so many times a month? Once certain aims are accomplished then moderate eating with even one 24 or 48 hour a month is beneficial. Maybe more fasting needed to halt disease growth. At some point the body heals and one has normal hunger again.
Maybe medicinal level of nutrients is needed in this polluted world, but I mistrust any all or nothing promoters. Will I tell my Native American friends to not eat bison or salmon? Not a chance
