Out of all the girly bop entries weâve had NQ over the last few years and Bejba made it.
yeah like albina ronela brooke idk how i feel about thatđą
everyday we stray further away from Godâs light đ«
I feel so sorry for Iru regarding that video. No one should have to endure that or be exposed for this.
Absolutely gutted for Iru...I really didn't care about the lyrics, I just loved the overall feel of the song, and she is an incredible vocalist. 'Echo' is my Number 7 this year...
The fact that Theo's team in Eurovision was his family and his girl friend, that he paid someone to do the LED visuals and that he bought his own clothes makes me really mad. It's not that TVR doesn't have money, they do, they weren't even there as a team, I did not even see the usual Eurovision lady TVR always sends and the press head was literally his sister. I am also mad that people send him love and suport him now because they've heard his vocals, but used to f-ing bully this child to death, there are also people who hate him even more, apparently they think he's gay, and I am not only talking about romanians, everybody hated this kid and projected a lot of bad feelings onto him, once in a while I go to a comment section under his videos to see what insult a random german has come up with now for him. I also know that Theo reads comments everywhere and he surely saw all the vitriol, my assumption is he felt so stressed because of it, after the NF I've only seen him with massive breakouts and acnee, at least his family was there for him and he really gave his all. I really hope he gets some good sleep now.
That's so sad! They should have just skipped participating this year if they didn't want to support the artist in the most basic ways... I hope he got at least something positive out of this whole experience
I think his performance was great, he was more confident than a lot of contenders and did the best he could considering. But there was no way he was going through with no staging and with LED visuals of questionable quality, against delegations that have professionals taking care of every little detail. He definitely didn't make a fool of himself, and I think his act overall was up there. With a better song and a more elegant staging he might have gotten through, but there was just too much to compensate for.
Cyprus should give all their points to Australia just for that awesome cover of their song Voyager did during the promotional period...
Yeah, I could never look past Georgia's bad lyrics. I'm someone who truly values lyrics in songs (as opposed to people who only care about the sound), so I ranked Echo rather low. That said, I still think Iru deserved to qualify over Poland.
lyrics are so easy to change too. even just fixing the grammar would have appeased many people
â@@ESCTom Exactly. It's alright for non-native English speakers to make mistakes in their personal communication (I know I do constantly, lol), but this is different. If you are submitting a song to a contest as massive as Eurovision, you want to show that you care about delivering a quality product, so just get a professional proofreader to go over it if it's not in your native language. It's quite easy and rather inexpensive even. A lesson learned for future entries, I guess. đ€
I love that every time you mention how tall the Slovenia boys are, â€đ
Thank you for your hard work again this year Tom! Iâve enjoyed so much watching your videos and reading your tweets throughout the Eurovision season. Special Thanks for boosting the KÀÀrijĂ€ hype and all the nice words about him and UMK. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much Cane đ„°đđ»â€ïž
I wasn't the biggest fan of Georgia (had it as a borderline NQ in my personal ranking), but I felt so sad for them Thursday night. And then I obviously saw the video on twitter and my heart broke a little bit for her. I hope they find that combination of very talented singer + great song + great staging next year. And maybe give it a go in Georgian? It seems to work for other countries, why shouldn't it work for them?
what happened in the videoin twitter?
@@roolka Someone sneakily filmed the Georgian delegation after the qualifiers were announced and you could see Iru was sobbing.
I always think it's such a shame when it's financial constraints getting in the way, like I do sometimes wonder (and especially with Romania this year) what the point is in taking part in Eurovision at all if the broadcaster isn't willing or able to support the artist. And I think a bigger conversation could be raised about the cost of organising and taking part in Eurovision in general - if delegations are struggling, then it might be an idea to just tone it down a little? I'm not suggesting the event should go back to how it was in like, the 1950's, but I feel like there's a way to organise it in a way that doesn't bankrupt everyone involved.
Australia - THE dark horse this yearâŠ
No
They will do very well! I don't think they're going to make the top 5 (although I'd LOVE them to!) But they're vying for the top 10!
can someone make a gif of Tom enjoying who the hell is edgar ahahaha

Thank you for your kind words and appreciation of Australia!
Hahaha, i didnt expect that but you made me laugh out loud đ€Ł I cant help but love "Because Of You", purley because i was a teen through the 90's, and the organ sounds associated with 90's house have been utilised here for this song. I think it was the famed Korg keyboards that revolutionised the sound, and its been used here for this in such a nostalgic yet fresh way. I cant help but love it đ
Are you doing a live Eurovision feed tonight Tom?
Ive got the kids coming round tonight and im just starting to get the place ready. So excited. â€â€
I cant unfortauntely, its banned in the media centre đ
Ill be live tweeting though! so leave me a message and pic of the family there. i just followed you there
Hope you have a great night!!!!
For me Georgia was in and Poland out. I know, Poland stood out more in terms of performance, but even, if you haven't heard about the situation with the NF - the song is bland at best. The German commentator (Peter Urban) called it "a floppy version of Coco Jamboo". đ
For me Poland sounds like any other 90s summer pop song. Regardless of the staging, doesn't change my opinion.
Heartbroken about Georgia. I think she did well and I enjoyed it.
he wasn't wrong and now I know the name of that song (I could see the video in my head etc but for the life of me couldn't remember the name or the band lol, it's been a while since I've last heard it). In case people don't know what we are talking about, Coco Jamboo by Mr. President (released in 1996, which explains Polands staging and that comment even more đ)
the song is bland and Blanks is trying to sell it with her looks...
Ngl Iâm still upset that Poland qualified over Georgia. It was also a bit off-putting, to put it nicely, how Blanka said she wanted to âthank her hatersâ in the press conference (If I remember correctly, this was after she was asked about the backlash she received after winning her NF. Someone can correct me if I have this wrong.). Usually, I wouldnât really care about those types of comments, but in the context of how controversial her NF win was for alleged rigging, saying something like that wouldâve been the last thing I wouldâve done if I were in her position.
I can totally see Slovenia being in the top 10! â€
Hi Tom, Iâve been following the semis and my heart broke 1. for Latvia and 2. for Iceland. đ
So excited for tonight, I planned to do a short prediction with my tarot, letâs see if I can do it in the time left.
Have fun and enjoy the Final⊠itâs going to he huge! đâ€
I love the Georgian song as much as you, Tom, so I sadly agree that the staging was very flat. It's an incredibly dynamic song with intense percussion, but the staging did almost nothing to match that. Iru was strangely still the entire time. When I imagine this live, I see strong-looking backing dancers, a lot of red and white, fast camera cuts, a lot of closeups, handography, dramatic zoom outs. I feel bad for Iru because she did her best. I hope the same songwriters return with a better lyricist and stage designer.
Glad you got to meet Voyager and really appreciate their qualities. Something that may escape people's notice is how they absolutely kicked butt in this semi. Austria was way ahead of them in the betting but they smashed this televote-only semi with Australia's best ever televote performance.
Let's just have a look at just how good Voyager's semi-final win is by comparing it to the two other Australian semi wins. (3 wins out of 7 for Australia is a pretty amazing performance in itself!)
The only direct comparison available between the semis is the televote, because it went televote-only this year.
Voyager is the only Australian first placer by televote, with 62% of the absolute maximum possible votes (12 per country). Australian semi final winners - ranked by televote % are:
1. 2023 semi final 2 - Voyager
1st in televote with 149/240 (62%)
2. 2019 semi final 1 - Kate Miller-Heidke
2nd in televote with 140/240 (58%)
3. 2016 semi final 2 - Dami Im
2nd in televote with 142/252 (56%)
Iâm sorry, but nah, Blanka is not innocent. She had all the opportunities to address what happened and request the detailed results. Also, nothing explains her liking the offensive, nasty comments about Jann and Ochman. Polish delegation did everything they could to cover her bad vocals and dancing capabilities. I donât understand the change of heart of everybody. What happened was wrong and now that she qualified, TVP has a green light to keep rigging NF and ESC polish points too. Money, corruption and connections won again and Iâd have to be mad crazy to stop being against it just because her backing vocals did a good job.
This. As fas as I know, Blanka still considers it "hate" when people point out the selection was rigged - an attitude not uncommon among wealthy people who wish to delude themselves into thinking money and connections don't give them an advantage. Did she personally rig the selections? Unlikely. Did she have to face the hate TVP deserved, because she was the symbol and the shield TVP used? Yes. Was that unfair? I would say yes, she should be responsible for her own behavior, not for TVP's. But none of that still changes the fact that her success is TVP's success, and that she covers for TVP, and that she didn't take responsibility for liking those comments and just lied instead.
Romania's song was my favourite of the year but that staging... the only reason I didn't think that was a stage invader was because nobody didn't seem concernedđ
Love Albania this year is my top three.
Love from đșđžđșđžđșđž
I wish Iru, as well as Victor, will get a new chance to represent their countries after a few years.
Do you think, that Spain and Sweden, which probably appeal to the same kind of audience, might cancel the other being next to the other in the final?
Getting so pumped for the Grande Finale today! Probably going to rewatch a bunch of your videos in the mean time to keep that hype up. Thanks so much for all the great content! â€
I think the stunning was staging too đ€Ł
so much staging stunning in the final đ
We love your juicy content tom
đ€Ł
Personally the lyrics in Echo were what made the song so good to me (my 10th overall) but the staging was very lackluster, so upset to see her nq this year
Iceland and Georgia are the only ones that don't need to change anything major moving forward (Georgia may need to clean things up but their batshitness is needed)
I prefer a televote only semi, but it feels like it was pretty easy to predict, normally i get 16 or 17/20 right and this I predicted 20/20.
I'd love to hear your reasoning behind why you prefer this system, since I don't really get why it's televote only in SF. The juries have a huge influence in the final and because they cast their votes very differently compared to the public, for me it would just make more sense to have it be more consistent throughout the whole competition.
@@venlakirahvi Because the televote reward songs that are out of the box and native language. The final is more entertaining when the viewers gets to decide.
Yep, 19/20 here. never happened before.
@@trildi Who did u get wrong?
@@PhilomenaCunkESC I was praying for Latvia, wishful thinking unfortunately! PS: Diane, is that you? đđ
Speaking of the Non-qualifiers:
1. Greece - Bless his heart. He tried to bring the energy, he looked winded and tired at the end. Unfortunately, the package Greece sent with him was not it. Don't have an LED of the artist's head when the only staging you brought was Viktor in an explorer outfit.
Iceland: There seemed a disconnect with the graphics and the performer. Buuuut it made sense, the juxtaposition of the fragile flowers versus the strength of the singer, she is the power. But, I think Poland took her spot! The LED's were similar but Poland was a basic Pop Bop that appeals to many, it was a Qualifier from the gate but I knew Poland took Iceland's spot.
Romania: Listen, this needed editing and it needed direction. It was too conceptual.
San Marino: Good Performance, definitely an improvement from the National Final, but it was a good performance going against great performances and packages.
Georgia: This was placement. She brought so much talent, her staging was great, her placement did her in. I think where placement hurt Georgia it really helped Estonia and Lithuania stand out. Especially Lithuania just felt like a breath of fresh air from the monotony of the night's songs and staging.
This will be the year of the solist-driven dance breaks. The reaction to them might affect to performances years to come.
Thank you for your hard work this season. I quite enjoyed Georgia's lyrics. My ADHD brain interprets most lyrics to make the same amount of sense as Echo, so seeing many people get annoyed with Echo's lyrics made me feel way better about my struggles. Gutted that Georgia didn't make it.
As the Eurovision 2023 season is almost over, I must say I'm so upset we never saw you wearing a green bolero.
Iru is 22 currently
The Cheer I let out when Estonia qualified. I was ecstatic. I'm pleased with the qualifiers in general. They all earned their place in the final. Even Poland. haha.
Iru was actually wearing my favourite outfit this year. I loved her white skirt and top so much and her glitter makeup! She's a star
I hope she's okay and knows how many people adore her â€â€
I can also not wink with one of my eyes (my left eye)! đ
I was so disappointed Reiley didn't qualifyđđ«¶đ»
The same here when I was so nervous for him his performance seemed even better than it probably was. đ©
As i said somewhere else if San Marino has got their television for Eurovision Faroe Islands should consider the same cause I still think Danish television doesnt really care that much.
Considering SF voting was televote only means everyone who Q deserved to in the eyes of the audience.
Outside of ESC bubble, no one knows or cares about controversies or dramas, the casual viewer will vote for the act that ticks enough boxes for them: song, staging and live performance.
I actually got 10/10 for SF2. I chose based on what went through SF1.
So happy for Australia and Begium getting through. They were my favourites on the night. Both brought so much joy in their performance.
All NQ's staging and performance didn't do them any favours when it came to votes. It's a shame there isn't an even playing field for staging assistance. If countries and/or delegations don't want to support their artists then why be involved?!
I do think this year's GF is going to be fabulous. There is such a great mix of crazy, spectacle, musicality, rock, soul, pop and fun. It's going to be a party!
I have to disagree with you about the Romanian entry being fun - for me, the staging is just alienating, like a 1970s-level sexist teen dream.
Having said that, if I heard it and didn't see it, I'd have a lot of praise
Will we also receive predictions for the Grand final from you today?
Yes, im doing 2 vids. Winners vid and a final preview. going to film them now
@@ESCTom Who do you think won the Jury Vote last night ?
Great video, but you made a little mistake, mimicat also wrote her song on her own
I think there was another credited songwriter - L Pereira
@@ESCTom during the little intro that plays before the performance, luis pereira is credited in the music section, only mimicat is credited for the lyrics, regardless, keep up the great videos, youre the best of the eurovison channels i watch â€ïžâ€ïž
My serbian mom, who at times has interesting opinion on albanians, said duje was BY FAR her favorite song of the night. that and slovenia. It's gonna be a bloodbath for the swiss diaspora votes lemme tell you that xD
Australia entirely wrote their own song, or are you only talking about solo artists?
I must say that the staging for Austria really was a letdown. Way too many wide shots where you just saw some tiny people dancing in front of a huge and confusing LED screen. The energy and humour of the video was completely lost for me.
Very happy for Belgium who can totally gloat because they made it and their northern neighbours didn't ;-) it's definitely not the best song but he's such a joy to watch and listen to.
Also happy for Slovenia, Estonia and Armenia which I really enjoyed.
Armenia 2014 came 3rd (Conchitaâs year) in televote from slot no 1 (overall 4th). So, no reason to worry about Austria.
Ukraine was 1st in running otder that year. Armenia were 7th. he was a favourite so they wouldnt have put him first
TOM...You were at the Jury finals last night so why don't you do a video on who you think came 1-2-3 rd
My prediction:
1.Sweden
2.Spain
3.Italy
My wish:
1.Spain
2.Italy
3.Estonia
the lyrics definitely downgraded iru's song for me. it felt really artificial, like it was trying to be big and grand but without saying why. is it a sad song? is it a happy song? like idk what im supposed to feel while listening to it. what am i supposed to connect to
that said, i think watching it live was better. ig when i watch stuff live i dont pay as much attention to the lyrics, so it felt a bit better but still not my favorite. i still wish she qualified over poland tho. that stage was so tacky
I really enjoyed Echo at first. I usually don't listen to lyrics that much so I didn't check them and just vibed with the music and her voice. Now that I've seen people commenting about the lyrics I took a look at them, and it just kinda ruined the song for me. Maybe it's an overly direct translation from her native language, to a level where it doesn't make sense in English? Because she really seems to find deep meaning in the song, based on her performance
1) Flippin Blanka
2) Albin really doesnât want to be there
3)Cyprus will give their 12 to Israel
4) Flippin Blanka
5) So glad people are finally giving Gustaph some credit
6) Austria đąâŠ..đąđąđąđąđąđą
7) Unpopular opinionâŠ..yes semis provide excitement for us but seeing the heart breaking scenes from some of the non qualifying artists was depressing reallyâŠâŠ..can we just have one massive final and get rid of the semis ?
yea thats totally it. I really think albin would prefer not to be there
No, the semis are some of the best parts of Eurovision. No one wants an 8hr final.
@@ESCTom why?
Cyprus will give it to sweden
Just having one final would be way too long.
Even tho the heartbreak from NQing from the semifinals is terrible, finishing the final with the dreaded zero points is even worse, and the semifinals p much eliminate that.
In my predictions I got 8, I thought Denmark and Georgia Instead of Estonia and Poland. So devastated for Iru but yeah the lyrics were a bit of an issue for me too. So sorry for Reilly too but honestly his vocals were very average. I am thinking it's either Loreen or Kaariya that will win now, would be very surprised if it's someone else. I thought there was a break after Gustaph but you said it's after Australia? That's positive for them I hope. â€â€â€
Shum playing in the background??
đ you might see it tonight
@@ESCTom Canât wait, I voted for them back in 2021
ArmeniađŠđČđđ
Austria didn't have winning potential with that performance so I don't see any problem with that ro. They can still get a top 10 result. I'm not saying that they don't sing well or they lack energy or charisma, but the same energetic and playful vibe which made the song attractive is just gone.
I agree. With the amount of competition from the others I don't think they would have won but I think they will still get top 10, although going first as opposed to being in the second half I think it will slightly take away some votes from them.
Poland was 3rd in this semi đ
What's a diaspora?
for example, Irish people who live in France would be Irish diaspora
Albania vote # 10đŠđ±â family power
who do u think will win today? i want Loreen đžđȘ
Loreenđđđâ€
yea i think itll be loreen or Kaarija
My Hope: KÀÀrja
Prediction: Loreen :(
Germany â€â€
Loren maugli o o o ođ
I think that Finland wins and here's why ...
1/ Even though Sweden probably (I'm not very sure about that ) wins the Jury vote I think Finland gets in the top five
2/ Finland wins a massive TV vote and Sweden badly under performs ...the voters want something new and original and not some rehash of a former winner and song
3 / Sweden may not even come second but may be a poor third or fouth as the voters on this website are indicative of just how overrated Sweden is and how badly she will do in the TV vote
A lot also depends on the commentators. The guy who commentates for the Flemish broadcaster mentioned on Tuesday that Loreen already won with 'Euphoria', and he mentioned that 'Tattoo' sounds an awful lot like that ABBA song. The combination of those two things could be enough for potential voters to spend the entirety of Loreen's performance reminiscing about 'Euphoria' or trying to focus on whether or not they can hear ABBA's 'The Winner Takes It All'.
I'd love that to happen but the odds are discouraging, so today I decided to make peace with Cha Cha Cha being the Lasha Tumbai of the year:) Not a winner but iconic forever
â@@tvaddictedbooklover lol.... our commentator didn't say it in Czechia đ
@@tiny_lebowski The bookies are sometimes wrong
I think Armenia đŠđČ is gonna do very well in final. â€
Luke Black Top 5!â€â€â€
This year has proven you can qualify from any position exept 12. I disagree about Albania, they qualified base on the song, the staging is very basic and doesn't elevate it, there's so much more they could've done. Georgia song simply wasn't good enough, it starts too strong and doen't progress, too repetetive. Greece had good song but Victor didn't sing it well, he sounded like he was mumbling. Denmark surprised me with the staging, it was really good, but the song... and the voice wasn't the best either
Reiley can sing watch his performance in Poland preparty + he was good in Amsterdam and London ..... he just doesn't have the same energy as the others cause he's introverted and he must have been so nervous opening the show.
I know I'm in minority of Eurovision fandom but the song it's exactly what I like... â€well, I'm an introvert either.
There's no better country to compare Ireland to this year than Slovenia. Both sets of young lads from an indie band. So Connor's bitter Instagram message is completely unfounded. Ireland could have qualified had they had a better song sung by singers with more charisma and better staging. I've watched it back & Connor doesn't even smile. Let's face it, we said it at the time, Ireland's "revamp" wasn't a revamp; they did absolutely nothing since being selected to actually improve the song- what did they expect.
lets be real - the different in performance quiality betwen the huge is quite large
@@ESCTom Exactly my point. Connor saying they had no chance of qualifying whereas Slovenia qualified. Same sorta band but the quality differences are stark. Don't get me wrong, I always root for Ireland (I'm still not over Ryan Dolan), I just don't want them to have a pity party and not make any changes to the selection process which are desperately needed, an overhaul in fact is needed. Good luck to everyone tonight but I think France is gonna give everyone a run for their money! :)
Not ashamed I LOVE THE SONG!!!! Slovenia does not do that to me!
Srbija?â€â€â€
I absolutely loved Albania, happy to see that many like it too!! â€đ€â€ btw even I thought Poland's staging was quite good.
