    Really helpful. Thanks for sharing. I always took the train which cost me about $38 return, bit of a pain. I'll follow your instructions when I'm in Sydney again next month :)

    This is a nicely presented clip and probably the most lucid description of a very well known hack. However, there are a few caveats.
    The question is 'To and from Sydney to where?' If you mean into the CBD of Harbour Sydney, it's walking (if you are fit, healthy and the weather is OK, it;'s not that far. In up to my sixties I did it more than once).
    I ask the question because I've met people who have followed similar advice, only to discover if they had stayed on the bus it actually went closer to where they wanted to eventually get.
    Others boast of the saving, then stay in some of the most expensive parts of Sydney. Sydney transport is pretty good. Staying in a much cheaper area that have a local train station, that connects with most places is a better way to go on a budget.
    Most fares are cheap (the added Airport entry fee being the notable exception - BTW 85% of the fee goes to the state government, not the airport operator). It's very doable and enables you to see more of real Sydney, not just the tourist traps.
    In my backpacking era, books like 'Lonely Planet' were valuable for finding the equivalent cheap accommodation in many countries, and often gave a far better experience of the local culture. These days going online makes it much easier.
    When I used Sydney Airport more for work related stuff (typically one day trips to Melbourne and back), I used to use the train directly. If you think it's expensive, try parking at the Airport. What I lost on the fee, I gained by parking for free at rail stations out west along the Airport Line.

    This was the perfect! Clearly shows how to get from the Airport to the city cheap! The airport train is defiantly overpriced!

    Did you notice if the new entrance to Mascot Station is completed? It is directly across the street from the current entrance, on Bourke St.

    • @ourtrips2go
      @ourtrips2go  Před rokem +2

      I missed the new entrance. I used the station regularly for a decade and was in ‘automatic’ mode the last time I passed through. I’ll have to check it out next time.

    • @ourtrips2go

      There is a free bus service between the two terminals. But if going to Mascot station from international terminal, use the 420 bus.

    • @ourtrips2go
      @ourtrips2go  Před dnem

      You would have to buy it from the railway station under the airport. The other option is to tap on and off using a credit card.

      There is no cost, but there is a minimum top up value. You can now also use a credit card to tap and pay on Sydney public transport.

    do u know the direction by train if i wanna go to Hurstville from Sydney Airport? thx u

    • @ourtrips2go
      @ourtrips2go  Před rokem +3

      By train, you would go from Sydney Airport to Wolli Creek on the T8 and then Wolli Creek to Hurstville on the T4. A cheaper option is bus 420 from Airport to Rockdale station and then train to Hurstville on T4.

      The debit or credit cards will be working. You may not need to buy an opal card. Not sure if all card types (master/visa etc) will work.
