    So I just decided to start my career as a Boom Op and you guys are really helping me with gathering crucial information about this stuff. So my question is:
    What exactly Boom Operator hears in his headphones? Does he has his own recorder/mixer where he plugs his boom mic, hears it from there and then sends the signal to a mixer? Or has he just a wireless sender that he can hear the signal from? Or just a wireless receiver to get the signal from Sound Mixer and plugs his Boom through cable to a Sound Mixer's gear? What solution is most common?
    I ask this question not only because I am intrigued and want to know the answer but also I really really want to win this cap. It's very cool.
    Thanks for this videos and channel I really appreciate your work!

    Hey I bought the V-Mic D3 and within a year it no longer worked on its own, it works when being fed phantom power but the battery internally doesn't hold a charge, I loved the mic but used it only a handful of times and never in like a wet environment and as far as I know didn't drop anytime. It's not in warranty or anything just seeing if it's a loss or if I can resurrect this bad boy!

    I would have liked to see the bottom of Allen's caddy. Is it on rollers or does it have tripod-like legs?
    I too love the Robo cups and find them very useful on a film set.

    • @SoundSpeeds
      @SoundSpeeds Pƙed 3 lety +2

      The caddy itself has a round aluminum base and there's a 5 wheel base it fits on below that. 5 smooth roller blade wheel casters (www.rockler.com/translucent-skate-wheel-casters-non-locking) and then the two layers are binder clipped together. If I want to remove the base and make it lighter for when I don't need the wheels, I can. I can also remove the center plate from the base, add an umbrella weighted base and it'll hold a Sportbrella XL. Check out this video for more info: czcams.com/video/tbVqIpdTGLs/video.html

    #mailbag I really appreciate your Videos, in which you collaborate with many different people from the industry! One of my most favorite videos is the one on how to wire different outfits for women and men. In that episode we get a good look at how you communicate with the talent. However, the actors seemed very calm and focused, a scenario that often doesn't work out like that on commercial shoots with inexperienced customers that maybe get in front of the camera for the first time and may be quite distracted by that fact, their script, their product... How do you approach someone like that with a lav-mic? How do you check your mic in the middle of the shoot (especially on a talent of different gender)? How do you handle them dropping the transmitter and reseating it themselves with cables dangling now all over the place and introducing noise? - All those scenarios one easily gets overwhelmed with on set, both the talent and yourself the sound person.
