@@killquinn97 I have an 190k 06 tC 5 speed manual that’s driven pretty hard. I’ve hardly had a lot of problems with it yet, and it’s relatively easy to service and DIY if you got tools around the corner. It barely burns oil (Around per 2-3k/qt, mostly highway driven) especially at 190k. The automatic transmission is good as far as I know. Engine restore additive also helped further reduce oil burning (although not recommended for VVTI systems)
If you’re going with the first gen I recommend getting the 05-06 model, since those don’t have an infamous oil burning problem. Fun, reliable cars to drive, just watch for the maintenance history, history of neglect can cause problems especially when you’re at higher mileage. Avoid the 07-10, the 05-06 is the way to go IMO.
The 2nd gen is also solid. 6MT or 6AT The 2AR FEs have addressed a lot of the 2azfe issues. Never owned one though. But they’re fun sporty cars.

Two years ago, I left my 2005 Scion xb with valet parking (no other parking choice), then went inside the restaurant to eat. A few minutes later, the valet came looking for me, “Ma’am can you park your car for me? I don’t know how to drive a car with manual transmission.” So, I parked & retrieved my own car, didn’t have to pay. Lol
It has 235k mi, and I probably spend less than $1k annually for maintenance & repairs. Every 3 or 4 months I have to put in a quart of oil. That’s the only thing I do myself. Otherwise, I bring it to the dealer. I know I could probably find someone less expensive to work on my car. I’m paying for convenience, and it’s cheap enough for me.
It’s still a blast to drive, and is the best money I ever spent on a car. Even if I end up buying a “late age crisis” car of my dreams, I will never let this one go!

Fun to drive, surprisingly roomy, and hasn’t needed any repairs except the one thing no one has mentioned: the flimsy plastic handle for opening the heavy hatchback. Mine was held on with glue and velcro when I bought the car. It’s a common enough problem that there are multiple different aftermarket parts to choose from. I got a color matched upgraded part with metal reinforcement for cheap online. Keep your eyes open and you’ll see a lot of tC’s driving around with hatchback handles that are either taped on or not color matched.
