    Hi Elyssa, This was fabulous. Thank you so much. I so remember the days that every site was free to just walk up and buy a ticket. Also, you could walk to the Colosseum FROM the Forum once inside, and so it was not another ticket. There was a time when The Pantheon was a free site (because it is a church). But of course, I understand the need to charge to help the Government run. You are the best! Grazie mille ❤❤❤

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  Před rokem +1

      Hi Terry and thanks as always for your kind support. I am so glad you enjoy my videos! Yes, many Romans tell me how the Roman Forum was actually free and you could just wander in and out. Now that Alessandro and I have bought our Parco Colosseo membership cards (50 Euros for 1 person, 80 for 2, good for one year unlimited access to the Colosseum, Forum, Palatine), we pop into the Roman Forum often, like when it used to be free. You might want to get this card since you come to Rome so much!

    Hi Alyssa, Thank you so much for this. Last June I tried through their website to book a Coop Culture Coliseum Night Tour. As you say, I found no tickets available for the coming days. I ended up purchasing our guided night tour tickets through another vendor but I was disappointed because I had really preferred a Coop Culture tour guide. However, when we arrived for the tour we were delighted to find a Coop Culture guide was provided for our group. Not sure this is how it always works? Anyway, our guide was superb! It all worked out in the best way.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  Před rokem +1

      I'm glad you were able to buy tickets for the night tour and glad you had a guide you enjoyed!
      When you book a night visit to the Colosseum, a Colosseum employee must accompany you on the tour (CoopCulture does not have guides. They are only a ticketing agency.)
      So if you book this directly through CoopCulture, your only guide will be the Colosseum employee. If you book this through a tour agency, a licensed guide from that company will come with you because they give you a more complete tour, often talking about the areas near and outside the monument itself. however, even on that tour, once you enter the Colosseum for the night visit, you will have to still be guided by the Colosseum employee.

    • @paulgerrard9227
      @paulgerrard9227 Před rokem +1

      Private guides arent allowed. Only coop guides lead tours. Resellers are discouraged by the official coop process as it is scalping that limits public access at fair prices.

    A few few years ago in the summer tourist season, we saw the Colosseum under very easy conditions by waiting till five or 6 PM, as I remember. If I remember correctly, it was like 95% less people than at noon.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  Před měsícem

      Yes, I remember that, too. Things have changed. Rome is now more crowded than ever and it's not easy to find a time when things are less busy, even close to opening or closing hours.

  • @Kocur86
    @Kocur86 Před rokem +4

    Co op probably works in partnership with agencies. On the day when the next day is made available, booking is impossible for the opening moment, and the day is blocked for about 10-15 minutes. After the time when the key hours for the agency are booked, the website is unblocked for outsiders. Then most of the tickets are already booked and you have to wait for the agencies to release the tickets in a situation where they do not sell their tickets more expensive or customers change their minds. Then tickets for individual hours become free during the day, but also quickly disappear due to the reservations of ordinary people.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  Před rokem +1

      Yes, it's true, it's a bit of a mess. That's why I made this video, to try to explain why it's so difficult. The reality is that no matter who manages the tickets, CoopCulture or some other company, there is the issue of supply and demand. With more and more people visiting Rome all the time, there is just a lot of demand, and for some things like the underground, there is a matter of limited space.
      I realize it is frustrating! Some day we may get a new company managing tickets but it's not clear if it will get any easier to get tickets directly, especially in high season.

      I agree, today I waited until 7 am in Italy (I live in Argentina, so it was 2 am for me) and the tickets for May 18th were not still available. When I woke up at 12:30 ET (in Argentina it was 7:30 am), magically "posti esauriti". In 5 hours all tickets were gone. Really?

    • @luisalmas3743
      @luisalmas3743 Před rokem +1

      I suspect you may be right. I'm seeing ticket schedules become unavailable before the time they should be available in the site. For example: It's 9:30am, and I see there is a ticket option at 10:30am. However, at around 9:45 that ticket option disappears from the availability schedule table. So, the conclusion is that tickets seem to be "being sold" before the time they should come out online, which in this case should be 10:30am. It may be that there is an explanation for this, but so far my experience is aligned with yours.
      In other words, it seems the public gets access to the "ticket scraps" that were not taken or snatched by bots or private providers. At least that's also my perception.

      As for security, it can take up to half an hour to wait in line and go through the metal detectors and security belt (airport style), but usually should take less than that. I would arrive at least half an hour before your appointment time and give yourself that cushion. If you arrive inside a little early, you can use the restroom if you need to, and also walk around a little bit before you meet your guide.

      @Romewise  Před 7 měsíci

      Thank you! Yes, when I made the video, it was a little easier to get standard tickets, even through resellers by paying a bit over the regular price. Resellers are no longer selling just tickets because there was a ruling against this so now they can only sell them bundled with something else like an audio guide, another site, or a tour. So getting standard tickets with nothing else is more difficult than ever, still due to supply and demand. The only way to do it is to show up and wait in long lines or to sit in front of your computer refreshing the screen until something pops up.
      I strongly recommend purchasing a tour, because it takes away the hassle, plus I really think taking a tour of these sites is a good idea since there is so much history to know.

      When you book the Full experience that includes JUST the arena (and not the underground), there is no guide. You will get a sticker that allows you to go through a gate that takes you to the arena floor.
      When you book the Full experience that includes the underground, you MUST go with a guide that the Colosseum provides. Once you finish with either the arena or the underground (which also does include the arena) portion of your visit, you are free to visit the main areas of the Colosseum on your own for as long as you like.
      The English tours of the underground are in high demand, so I often hear of people booking the tour in Italian just so they can get in.
      All entry to the Colosseum is timed and there are regular entry times beginning at 8:30 AM (as of November 1.)

    @Romewise Thanks a lot for sharing this video. Have 2 queries regarding it. Is the free ticket on 1st Sunday available to any national or limited to Italy nationals only? Secondly and more importantly, is the Full Experience ticket available on the 1st Sunday free of cost? Also one of my friends visited Rome last month and they could book the ticket to Colosseum from the site and did not prebook it.

      Thank you for watching and for your comments. I'm glad you find it helpful. In answer to your questions:
      1) The Free Sunday (in which state museums and sites across Italy, as well as city-run museums in some cities including Rome, are free on the first Sunday of the month) is open to everyone, no matter where they are from or their age.
      2) On the Free Sunday there are NO special visits - no Full Experience, no night visits, no SUPER sites. You can only access the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill during normal hours and in their regularly visited spaced.
      Yes, since I made this video last year, they did bring back the on-site ticket booth so now you can stand in line and buy a same-day ticket although I still don't recommend this as the lines can be really long.

    Couldn't have done it without this video! Everyone needs to watch it. Thanks! ❤. Our 9.15am trip went very well today, got to see the underground. Was only 4 people with individual tickets so the staff member told us little bits, as the tours mulled around us they had to accompany. They were so kind, and it was amazing. Saw 4 of the 7 super sites afterwards, they were like finding a needle in a haystack 😂 but some legs had gone by that time anyway 😂

      Wow, how did you catch the tickets? Congrats! I'm literally living on this website and still didn't understand how it works. I thought I will see available tickets month before the day I need, but I'm not sure already it works this way. All the days are red, two times maybe three I saw available time always the same 17:15. I makes me feel crazy.

      @@olgasharlay It was on the Coop culture official ticket website. They release at times kind of randomly, so you need to keep refreshing. The full experience are usually all sold within 1-2 minutes but you can put it in the basket for 15 minutes reserve if quick enough. The other couple in the group also said they refreshed the website all day. Meanwhile the arena ticket availability normally lasts on there about an hour to a few hours before they sell out. My full exp ticket for 9.15am was bought at 11am ish, (I was hitting refresh from 9am onwards so was probably lucky it only took 2 hours), and they release all tickets one month before the visit date, all May 2 tickets are sold on April 2 for example. Hope you get the ticket you need 😀🤞

      Yes as I mentioned in the comments, since I made this video, they brought back the on-site ticket booths so now you can purchase tickets for same day entry as long as there is availability - however you do have to stand in line which can be quite long. I'm glad you were able to get them!

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  Před rokem

      If you are on a tour, you will spend around an hour inside the Colosseum and then typically another 2 hours touring the Palatine Hill/Roman Forum. If you visit the Colosseum on your own, you can take all the time you want. I think for most people, an hour is sufficient.
      Thanks for your comments - I'm glad you enjoy the video!

    Great information. Thanks. Is the $24 full experience ticket is a skip the line ticket? Also, children under 12 years old will have to buy the $24 full experience ticket as well?

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  Před rokem +1

      Thanks! All Colosseum tickets are "skip the line", as it is no longer possible to purchase tickets on site. However, everyone has to go through security and there is no way to skip that line.
      Everyone under 18 can visit the Colosseum for free, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.
      When you purchase YOUR tickets, you will see a link that says click here for a free ticket. It will open a new window. There you can reserve a free ticket for your 12-year old. You must reserve this ticket or he/she won't be able to go inside.
      Have a great time!

      Thanks for your kind words - glad you enjoyed the video!
      There is some confusion right now as CoopCulture will stop being the official vendor for the Colosseum (and the Domus Aurea) as of the end of April. From May 1, all Colosseum (and Domus Aurea) tickets can be purchased from the new official ticketing site, which is the official site of the Colosseum itself:
      ticketing.colosseo.it/
      First of all, visitors to the site are experiencing heavy traffic and sometimes you will see a screen that tells you that you are in the queue to be online.
      Second of all, they have stated that for Underground tickets as well as other types of tickets (with guides, etc), they should have these online by today, April 8. You should check again today. I would expect there to be a few hiccups along the way as they work to get everything functioning properly, but the bottom line is, this is the new official site, and just keep checking back.
