    The game has many hordes, the smallest one starting at 50 freakers, the sawmill horde is the biggest one with hundreds of freaks... it would have been impossible to beat those if that part of the story takes place earlier. Plus, in the beginning you are barely making out alive from smaller encounters which establishes the world a dangerous place, done amazingly well in my opinion.

    • @Grave_Digger606
      @Grave_Digger606 Před rokem +6

      Couldn’t agree more. This game has one of the most satisfying progressions I’ve ever experienced in video games. I played on Hard 2 difficulty my first time, and early on I ran out of gas on my bike. I was crouching from bush to bush because a regular freak could one shot me. I was terrified of any encounter where I didn’t have the upper hand, and still hesitant even when I did. Fast forward to the end of the game, I’m being chased by a horde of 500, throwing molotovs and spraying bullets into the masses, and having so much fun doing it. This game literally takes you from hopeless and pathetic, to being a one man army who can even slow down time by the end of the game.

    • @Dean444ful
      @Dean444ful Před rokem

      Yeah I disagree with the whole “it doesn’t pick up till the second half.” Like man you would’ve gotten butt fucked by bigger hordes in the early game. Even late game, the sawmill horde is a challenge.
      There’s hordes in the early game they’re just smaller. People shouldn’t have expected sawmill level hordes from the get go. The horde size progression is pretty reasonable.
      My biggest criticism when it comes to horde encounters was that out of all of them the sawmill was the most interesting. Wish more of the encounters would’ve required you to use the environment to your advantage like that cause otherwise you’re just kinda running around the landscape and shooting behind you.

    • @Grave_Digger606
      @Grave_Digger606 Před rokem +3

      @@Dean444ful Sawmill horde is easily the best example of level design meets horde confrontation. If we ever see a sequel (supposedly Sony said no but the game has gained a lot of popularity since then) then I think the second one would really flesh out the horde fights. The game is huge and Sony Bend were just getting their feet under them. The second game, if it happens, will be amazing.

      Unfortunately the hordes kept bugging for me so they wouldn't spawn. I went through almost the entire game without seeing any hordes except for one or two very early on. Probably dragged the game down 1-3 points in my book. Easily the best part of the game but doing them at the end (where I found a way for them to spawn in) quickly got old and easy.

    I actually really enjoyed the slow burn pacing of the game. Delayed gratification will ALWAYS trump instant gratification in my opinion. Those upgrades to the bike, those stronger guns, etc, would not even be satisfying if you didnt have to use worse versions of those things. You finally get the better version and it feels so good. The hordes being built up and built up throughout the story as this monster undertaking, until finally the missions force you to do one, is great design. The hordes already exist on the map, so a player can seek them out from day 1, shitty little pistol in hand. Its the fact that the characters in the world treat the hordes with such seriousness that makes you take them more seriously. I do agree that horde killing couldve come much earlier however. The ones that I did kill earlier in the story I just happened to stumble across a cave entrance and got curious. Overall great video! Well said!
    Edit: Man those PS4 bugs definitely hurt the game a lot.

    The game where I can use a mod to play as Daryl Dixon and it looks phenomenally like him, except for the ol' crock's gait in this game. Dunno what some developer making the character walk like he shat his pants had in mind with that immersion shattering horseshite, but other than that it's a gorgeous game about a human apocalypse that at a certain point requires quite a few skills to deal with the largest of the hordes.
    And having a badass looking bike and going for a ride in DD's west and boots, pants with bandana and crossbow and long knife, one-shot hand-to-hand kills against breakers with yer knife, just like Daryl would do... it brings back fond memories of the good ol' Walking Dead days, when it was still good, like no other game I know of can pull off so far. Not to mention Reedus' new series, the spin-off The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which instantly brought me back to "Days Gone" as well.
    With some useful mods that enhance the game graphically and improve the gameplay without ruining it by dumbing it down, and the addition of apparel, more and better bike parts, DD's face and so on, it's a gem. Though I couldn't play it without my mods. Once you know what it could have been (and can be with mods), you can never go back to the vanilla version.
    I highly recommend to give it a shot, then take yer time to customise it. It's not that easy for beginner mod installers, though installing mods for this game is pretty easy. But gettin' the char and the bike right without glitches or bugs needs some testing. Once done, you gonna have a great time as Daryl, If you like the Daryl-character as much as I do.

    I'm glad you're revisiting this video as I've seen a lot of people look back at old reviews of the game and start attacking the reviewers saying they are 'hacks' or 'paid off' to give the game a bad review back in the day. They honestly forget that is game was broken and almost unplayable in sections. Even the former creator is acting like he didn't release a buggy, broken mess. I also played this game at launch and it was terribly buggy and I also lost my saves from a broken save system. It is THE game that officially made me stop pre-ordering games until I knew it was finished or patched enough to play.
    I did play it years later on the PC and did enjoy it then.

    Honestly though the fact that hordes will be in the world, and increase in size the deeper you get, but you can’t take them head on right away is much better. With that creeping horde music as well, it instills a fear in you that this world is dangerous. If you could just shank them right away they would lose impact real quick. You can still fight them earlier on though. You just have a harder battle. They just don’t start showing up in story missions until later in the game.

    I've played it 4x, twice on Survivor 2. Suffice it to say, I love the game and played it on release. I only ran into a few minor glitches and Bend fixed those in successive patches. Having the hordes introduced more slowly - so little hordes in the beginning when you have basic weapons and would be hard-pressed to kill them - I think is just fine, because once you get to the must-do mission hordes, you're (hopefully) well-equipped to take them on. Early on, they scared me.. lol.. so I avoided even the little ones until I got some better weapons. Were there, are there other bugs.. yes, I've run into a few, but I don't think I've played a single game that has not had some bugs and I don't expect any game to be 100% bug/glitch free. I love the game. Sony rejected original the sequel pitch, but I'm not ready to give up home on a DG2 :)

    You can kill hordes earlier on by being strategic and using all the craftables. i.e. using the attractors and a pipe bomb will kill a small horde. The progression of weapons is more natural that way and you can take on most of the earlier hordes.

    Here's the thing. If Days Gone was just hordes and nothing else, sure it would have been fun, but it wouldn't have been great. Days Gone's biggest strengths are its story and its world. I play this game specifically for its story because of how good it is. The world you get to explore is extremely well designed, and while sure, it has some bloat: enemy camps for example, you don't HAVE to do all of them if you don't want to.
    What makes the story so good, is Deacon. Sam Witwer has to be commended for how good of a job he did bringing Deacon to life. More than just that, all of the cast is extremely well written, likeable or at least understandable, and they each have their own quirks which make them unique. Deacon got a lot of flack for being another "white male protagonist" but I'm convinced those people never paid much attention to his character. He isn't a ladies man. He's unconditionally attached to his wife despite believing she's dead. When Ricki makes a move on him, he turns her down because of his commitment to Sarah. He's a hard ass, but he has a good heart, helping people who need it, and one thing to note is he absolutely hates people who prey on women. These are good qualities in anyone, let alone a fictional video game character.
    The game also has some great moments that didn't NEED to be there, but because they are, they enhance the story. The quest where you find a puppy for Boozer to give him something to live for after he has his arm amputated to save his life from blood poisoning. That's just sweet, no matter how you look at it.
    It's such a shame we'll never get a sequel. With what Sony Bend learned from this game and what they could have applied to the next game in terms of character development, gameplay improvements, new and interesting weapons, a larger variety of quest types. God, what a shame. I don't normally care about sequels all that much, but this is one game where I genuinely wanted a sequel.

    This take is just not accurate.
    When I played days gone I tackled the hordes right from the beginning of the game and it was so exhilarating and rewarding because of that.
    I remember farming a bit in the beginning just so I could buy the slightly better assault rifle in one of the early encampments and then I located some of the more powerful pieces of gear like grenades and proximity mines that respawn around the first locations of the map that are unlocked right away (you just have to skip days to make them respawn) and then I’d go take on these horses.
    I LOVED the first encounter I had with a horde that made me crap my pants, and then having to figure out how to tactically take them on was a blast. And after killing a few hordes you unlock better gear from it and you get to have that stuff early.
    I also loved how I lulled myself into a false sense of security, thinking I had figured out how to handle hordes, but then running into one that was WAY bigger than the others I’d done and getting completely overwhelmed.
    I think this game is perfectly balanced, and tbh if I had to say the balance was in any direction, it would be that it loses steam in the last half because it’s so long and drags out a bit.
    I dunno what’s stopping people from utilizing the tools in the beginning of the game to get more powerful early on. 🤷‍♂️

    You say that we only get to fight the hordes like 20 hours in but the only horde I fought the entire game, except for the sawmill horde, was one I met very early on (the train tracks horde) and beat using every enviromental thing, every piece of ammo and weaponry I had. It was super fun. Then for the rest of the game... hordes never spawned (except for the sawmill horde for the mission). There was a certain thing I could do to spawn the hordes but it was annoying and time consuming so I just ended up doing the hordes at the end and it got old quick quite frankly. Having those encounters spread throughout the game time would have been so amazing.
    Unfortunately the almost only genuinely GREAT part in Days Gone is the hordes and I didn't get to experience them right. The game overall was very "meh" for me. Wasn't bad but they should have cut the game down and just put more effort in the parts that were there. This was one of those game were at a certain point I just wanted to finish it, I wasn't having fun anymore.

    The game was great other than the bike (driving, dependency, gas system, damage system) gunplay, close combat, dialogue, story, character development, bugs, pop in, frame drops.....Other than those couple things it was a great game

    For me the story was very generic the characters were really weak. Even the dialogue was gingy but there was just something great about this game. I like the motorcycle mechanic and the open world was cool especially going into abandoned buildings looking for things and the hoard game play was really cool. Its just just weird how much this game got my attention when compared to Forspoken.

    Okay this narrative about "you don't get to kill hordes untill way later in the game" is false. I killed 3 hordes before even getting to the Lost Lake camp. I feel the people pushing this narrative were more focused on Copelands camp for bike upgrades instead of Tuckers camp for gun upgrades. You need better guns for hordes which tuckers camp has so I focused on gaining trust there and got good guns early. You also have to clear the marauder camps early for item upgrades like the attractor which is very useful for hordes, and trap bomb recipes which you can only unlock by clearing marauder camps.

    I liked a LOT of things about this game. It was only really the story that I really disliked. I didn't like the characters and the overall story from beginning to end of the game didn't really feel as impactful as say, the last of us games. We're meant to feel for these characters who have lost everything but the main character basically 'gets everything back'.......as such it makes the inital theme of 'loss' rather.......pointless. Not to mention two of the main characters in avertedly had hands in things with disasters outcomes and it never really seems to affect them emotionally or have any impact on their characters at all. makes them come off as very uncaring or dense at the absolute worst.............great gameplay and settings though.

    When it first launched in 2016 I was soon hyped waiting for reviews and it turned me off never tried just because, just started yesterday free on ps5 store, 60 fps ps5 smooth gameplay graphics are crisp and really good its worth it and a great game. Really did slow bor8ng start first half after that you start unlocking skills and more weapons with reputation from various camps and upgrade your bike it really picks up and good action feels rewarding as you get stronger.

    @neryleal5265 Před rokem

    The whole game is really bland. It doesn't ever set itself apart in any original way. If you're gonna argue the horde is the main selling point, I'd refer you to fucking Mob of the Dead, cod blackops 2. Really cod zombies has the best mob feeling from zombies. Oh and you don't have to slog through 18 hours of boring shit just to get a mob following you. Days gone offers such a generic and uninteresting story as well with the most basic characters out there. Also ik video games are supposed to be made up and allow you to be fictional but gasoline expires after about 6 months, you're gonna tell me the fuel is still salvageable, let alone his unlimited tank? And seriously running from the horde is so boring.

    I didn't get the chance to play until it was free in ps4. And I'm assuming most if the bugs were fixed by then because nothing I experienced was at all abnormal for an open world game. I honestly can't remember any bugs so anything I did see/experience must've been minor. Love this game.
