Can you explain? When using the rod, it’s obvious where the metal is coming from. On the later welds, with ‘filler?’ I’m not sure where, what appears to extra material, comes from.

The later welds are "fusion" elds no filler material . The parts are simply fused " melted " together . This is common on food grade pipe welds .
