The eagle came out of the lamp and drew the lines with its beak. I also saw a buffalo running. At any rate, eagle, lamp and/or a buffalo, it's a beautiful piece, Phil. Ya dun it proud, ya did!
Such a cool piece Phil and so different than the last one. I saw that Eagle before you even ask so with out doubt you have an eagle living in the bowl. And he is not going anywhere or he would have flown away when you dropped it. But perhaps the genie put a spell on him and he stayed. I know this turning put a spell on us watching you work your magic. Great work my friend, Gary
Always with the one-liners, Gary, I love it! Yeah, this turned out so much better than it's other half. Interesting to me. I'll have to keep an eye on that genie! Thanks, buddy! 😊
Beautiful Phil. I think there is more dust in your pocket. That was funny. I think the calipers made that line. This video was very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing. I hope I see you on the next one.
Love the lighting on this bowl. Great oval shape. The 2 lines give it character. Last nights video with your family was a pleasure to see. You have a beautiful family Phil
Hello Phil, I just finished some wedge fries....I bet you are jealous. I went back to look at your video of how you smooth between coats of finish. Easy peasy is how its done. Great job on this bowl. Always a treat to watch you work.
Gidday cobber, yep another beauty. The shellac finish definately worked. I saw the other bowl with the feed and wax and this shows the differance between the two finishes really well. Cheers Phil, see you next week. Deno
Thank you very much, Phyllis! I love your name. I once had a girlfriend named Phyllis Anderson and I thought how cool it would be if we got married. Of course, I was 9 at the time... 😊
Nice work Phil! I think you might've made the line while checking the thickness. Must be a really soft wood. Still turned out very nice. I love how thick the bark is. Take care and GOD BLESS 🙏!
Hi Phil, another great video. The lines were caused by the calipers when you checked the thickness. I could see it in the video each time you took a thickness measurement. I hope that solves the mystery. The bowl looks great regardless of the "character" lines' Dave D

Thank You Phil, Thank You Jim in Pennsylvania ... Nice looking bark very pronounced .. I have a lot of pepper trees in my area but enterally different, so my pepper trees are probably just a slang expression for the little peppery balls that litter the street. I do not know.... Another wonderful turning Phil & I look forward to next week ..... TM
Yup, many comments pointing out the line from my calipers, Tuffy. Dang it! Never had that happen before. Must be because the wood is so soft. I need to be more careful. Thank you, my friend! 😊
Your amazing skills turned another beautiful piece. I was yelling more bark but you didn’t hear me. 😂 I love the bark. The color is really nice. I also agree that there is a genie lamp! Great video!
Hey Phil my brother John knows what caused those straight lines. It was your calipers that caused the lines. if you look back on your You tube video it makes the same mark on the inside, but you sanded the inside after which took out the scratches. Its a beautiful bowl. Just wondering if you could do a couple of video's showing all your woodturning pieces. I would love to see them all.
Your brother is right, Cathy! I need to be more careful when dealing with such soft wood. The video sounds interesting but difficult to do. I must have given it away cause I couldn't find it for the side by side, Gord. Dang it! This one just looks way better and turned better, too! Thanks for watching, my friend! 😊
I liked the way the grain looked even before you turned it, very pretty. I saw the eagle on the bottom as you were first showing that side but think the inside looks more like a raven. 😉. Either way it’s a beautiful bowl! 👌💕😊
Very pretty bowl. Nice grain and love the bark. Yes, I do see the genie lamp with a little puff of smoke, too. Those lines are very interesting. I thought I got a glimpse of one on the inside, too.

Phil I just finished watching your video on turning Pepper wood. In Missouri the wood is called Sassafras. The roots are dug in the winter when the sap is down. They make an excellent hot tea. I've turned Sassafras, Jim. That has a nice, pleasant sweet smell. This wood is different and smells like pepper. But, I agree, they must be kissing-cousins, very similar otherwise. 😊
Nice one Phil! As much as I like the thickness you ended up with, I know you would have made the thicker bark look amazing as well. I’ve seen so many bowls you’ve made with fabulous thick smooth bark. I think the inside looks like a crow lying on its back 😊 Thanks again for another very entertaining video! Cheers, Rick
Beautiful Phil. I could see the Eagle and the Lamp as well. Those 2 straight line marks are a mystery. Great video to go with my cup of tea. Take care my friend. Cheers, Huw
The lines were caused by the calipers and the operator of the calipers, Huw, as pointed out by many of my viewers. Dang it! Thanks for breakfast, my friend! 😊
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop That makes sense. I've never seen them before and I've never had them as I don't measure the thickness of my bowls. lol
Thank you Jim. Phil, I see others saw the calipers leaving the fine lines in the soft wood, so you already have your answer to the mystery. Softening the caliper edges will help prevent future scratches. Lots of different birds inside and out. Happy this side turned easier than the other half. Guess you need to turn a French fry/veggie platter for your next turn. 😜🤣
I check those calipers all the time for burrs, Valerie. I will run some 600 grit over them. I think the soft wood and the operator are most at fault! It better be a big platter! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop Don’t think it was a burr, just sharp edges on that soft surface. I have a 16” maple platter in the works on the lathe now. But it will have to wait until my right hand surgery is healed up!
