- This beautiful Indonesian cartoon about Battle of Surabaya, which makes you shed a tear at the end (sorry for the subtitles, I could not find a version without subtitles). But I decided to use it in Vietnamese topic, because there is not enough normal material related to Southeast Asia.
Also, many people (initiated by Alex 7) asked me to make a video for Sabaton's song about the Vietnam War. The next video will also feature footage from this cartoon.

@@GuidedBombUnit-12 bro, surabaya is in Indonesia. This anime show the Battle of Surabaya, a historical battle in indonesia at the end of WWII when the allied force try to turn us indonesian back to Dutch occupation. As a new Free country, we fight back, of course.

basically for those who don't know the history behind this battle or film, after 350 years of dutch rule who exploited and enslave us to the Europeans oppressing nationalism and independence ideas until 1942 when Japan invaded to be free instead it was business as usual, and japan exploited and enslave us once again instead (example Indonesian workers or slaves sent to Myanmar who starves to their bones and starvation)and promoted independence ideas and nationalism which start some underground resistance and didn't end well for the brave partisans. Then when things in the pacific in WW2 turn around against japan and seeing that the war is lost the Japanese overlords in Indonesia decided to give us the option of Independence which we did, the Preparatory Committee for Indonesian Independence form on August 7 1945 8 days before japans surrender with member Sukarno and Mohammad Hatta which will later be the first president and vice president and other member drafted the proclamation and independence. On August 15 1945 japan surrender ending ww2 for good and for us 2 days later on 10:00 AM Fridays, 17 August 1945 thee Declaration of Independence was declared, problems arose after that power vacuums exist and a couple of dutch internees rose a dutch flag in a hotel Yamamoto anger by this couple of nationalist climb to the flag and rip the blue part. British and Dutch forces arrive in Surabaya then tension began to rise between Indonesia and European militias and soldiers and in October there were multiple skirmishes between the militia and British army finally a nail in the coffin arrives on October 30 when a brigadier name A. W. S. Mallaby was killed in a confusion nail the coffin and wars of independence begun in the port of Surabaya which was the bloodiest battle in the entire war over 6,000 -16,000 killed; as many as 20,000 and more injured for Indonesia and 295 -2,000 killed slightly over 210 wounded to the British army. My grandfather who a kid at that time told me who hid behind his neighborhood in a car or truck and he direct saw the entire battle with experience seeing couple Indonesian militia running through and then seeing gurkhas and allied forces marching (he prob mistaken the gurkhas for British indian soldiers 23rd Indian Division were there)
Somehow, the experience is on par with Viet Nam. But instead of British and Dutch, we have French and British and Japanese

I do really hope that someday Sabaton takes the Battle of Surabaya as their song's material. Ragtag republican army defending against powerful european military. "Merdeka atau Mati!" Freedom or Death in Effect!
It's not really rag tag, Indonesia is heavily militarized by the Japanese and giving weapon stockpile rather than surrendering it to Allied.
You guys have Japanese paramilitary Group called Shikidan, Seinedan and PETA.
It just seems rag tag because so many civilians actually involved but Indonesia have strong guerilla army at that time a real professional army.
Battle of Surabaya on 10th of November Was remember as National Heros day or Indonesia Veterans day.
