2 Weeks to Massive Watt Gains and Personal Best Climbs

  • After just 2 weeks on an intense climbing training program, I had a 50 watt gain and 2 minute PB on the Greenhill Road climb and an 18 watt gain and 47 second PB on the fearsome Corkscrew Road Climb.
This very challenging but achievable 2 week training regime produced results that I honestly had trouble believing. Yes it was the toughest 2 week training block of my life, but when I look back at the power gains and personal best times I rode on my favourite climbs, I know it was worth it.
In 2019 I took part in a University Study into the potential of natural antioxidant foods to promote recovery from intense endurance training. I joined up simply to participate in the training program, but I got a couple of massive personal bests in the deal!
Here I present the improvements that I made and the tortuous two weeks of training that delivered these results. Would I do it again?
    Hmmmm

for the greenhill road segment, it looks like the segment you showed has bad GPS data. its showing 650m of elevation gain on a 6.5%g road. bit of a sidenote, but was annoying me lol

Yup, and the Corkscrew segment shows zero metres of elevation gain and the profile shows a descent half way through, which I can assure you doesn't exist!

At 5.25 you 27 minutes, but adding the times up it should be 37 minutes. Just saying, I will let you how I get on with this. My next race is in just over 2 weeks time.

Hey, I 100% recommend you DO NOT DO THIS PROGRAM NOW if you have a race in 2 weeks. You will be absolutely shattered by the end of it. I did my personal bests 3 weeks after the hard training finished (one week after the tapering down). The body needs this time to recover.
Also I did not include the 10 minutes of Zone 1 in my addition. On the first hill climb each day it was part of the ramp, but for the other three it took 10 minutes for my heart rate to drop back to Zone 1. So it was more a recovery period than an active period.

@podiumphysio657 I've just done the Gran Fondo in the Sierra Nevada ( Spain ) the last 24km was up hill, with over 2000 meters elevation. Thanks for the advice, I will start it when I've done the race👍
