Biggest diasadvantage of spd-sl (and alike) pedals are stairs. Easy to fall off with spd-sl

Hmmm, yes I can see that. Cant say I've ever tried to tackle stairs in any cleats. Nor ladders😁

@@podiumphysio657 I did, ten days ago. Broke my arm and hurt some ribs... Maybe Speedplay is better on stairs. But definitely no spd-sl for me again.

In all honesty of all systems I've used Speedplay are really good but they're quite particular. I think i rode them once for just under 2yrs, what i didn't like was the rocking that developed, the positioning is BRILLIANT but once it's set it's done, weight of the cleats are quite something. Other systems like Look and Shimano dearly needed to work on their cleats they need to be harder wearing. After trying every system i've settled on Time's, they just suit me, Xpresso's, the xpro's seem soo stiff when you're in them

You mean forward and backward rocking? I havent encountered that.
It is ridiculous how fast wearing the plastic cleats from Shimano and Look are. Cant be good for the environment throwing those out every 3 months.
Havent ever tried the Time cleats but glad they are working for you.

@@podiumphysio657 No side rocking just literally moving your leg side to side when riding so the kennel platform fails BUT that's solved with the ring on the new wahoo variants, tho a friend of mine prefers the originals due to the fact they can be serviced and they don't detach from the axle we on every warranty replacement, it happened 👍

@@leedorney I guess Speedplay have a smaller contact patch with the foot so it could be less stable. I've never noticed any stability deficit though.

Been riding speedplay zero's with 65mm spindles for over twenty years, as I just need a wider stance width to feel comfortable. I wouldn't dream of riding anything else, although I still haven't bought the newer Wahoo speedplay's as there have just been too many quality issues ever since Wahoo acquired the Speedplay several years ago..

That's great that you have found them helpful. I've tried the 20mm spacers with a handful of bikefit clients over the years and sometimes it does good things for them, but sometimes it has done weird things for their knee tracking. In general though having more adjustability on a bike should be the goal.

It's paid advert, or 1st April joke??? BTW, I'm on Time pedals, the best.

I think if this was a paid advert, the Wahoo marketing department would be on notice!
I actually have a set of Time pedals and cleats that came with a second hand bike I bought several years ago but I was never game to try them. The chap that sold me the bike thought they were the bees knees though!

@@leroythecoffeegeek4611 I'm not sure about "complete lack of objectivity". This video has a combination of fact and my opinion after using Speedplay for 18 months. I can assure you that no money has changed hands!

@@podiumphysio657 ok sorry, it was just hard to tell if it was genuine or not. Maybe it was just the way I interpreted it. I'm not anti Speedplay at all, I've never tried them so there's no way I could really have a personal opinion. There is a counter-point to a lot of the points you made though so your video is highly biased. For example I have Look Keos as it's what my physio recommended when I got my bike fit done. We considered all options, but ultimately he said Look as Shimano were no good for me as they didn't have enough horizontal play and Speedplay were no good as they had way too much. So for my specific physiology Look are pretty much perfect. I've got the cleats with the wear pads on them and my current pair have been on for nearly 8 years and still have lots of life left in them!!! I accept that's partly because I don't commute as much any more so I'm not in and out of the pedals as frequently, but I'd say that's still really good. I think it's really a matter of considering all pedal options when looking for a new set, being open to something that you may not have tried before and then getting what works best for you rather than being swayed by opinion pieces online. (Side note - you know that most mechanics and some bike fitters hate the complexity of Speedplay right? So I hope you're planning on servicing them yourself! 😉)

@@leroythecoffeegeek4611 I assume what your physio was talking about was rotational float? Shimano cleats have 6 degs maximum, Look have 9 degs maximum and Speedplay up to 15 degrees, although as demonstrated in the video this can be adjusted between 15 degs and zero.
The main "servicing" issues with Speedplay is that they need a squirt of lubricant into the wishbone spring periodically. The bigger issue is the time it takes to install them, and therefore the time it takes to replace them or adjust them.
