    My favorite Spring/Fall - Jacket is the Baracuta G9 Harrington Jacket... in Tan

    Unlined wool jackets of light to medium thickness are not too warm. My 15-year-old Filson jacket liner serves as a kind of medium weight bomber jacket. It’s comfy and serves as my go-to for temps 40°F to 70°F, okay in light rain. It’s insulates when cool and breathes when warm.

    I really thought I was going crazy being the only person who absolutely hates the fit of my flint + tinder waxed trucker. The length is just atrocious, they gotta have some freak of nature working in their sizing department for this to be acceptable. I've even considered copping their women's version because it's cropped.

      Yeah the cut of it is baffling to me. The model must be a 7 foot tall barrel.

      Weird, I'm just under 6' tall and around 160 lbs. I have an f&t waxed trucker in med and it fits perfect. I don't think I have a particularly strange body type. I don't think they are for shorter people, maybe.

    In Australia this is about as cold as it gets unless you're out at night for several hours. I'm actually jealous I dont get to wear peacoats or an N1. As for waxed jackets I think the Filson might fit your proportions better.

    Thanks Jake! I love my Oni chore jacket in secret denim black, don’t know if it would work as well in the indigo though. I’m on the lookout for a Type 1 and the BR or Samurai offerings seem to have measurements that’d work for me. I have owned a few leather jackets, but I’m not sure if something that only works for a few days in spring and fall is practical…

    Is that a natural Minerva Ottawa boot from Grant Stone in the background (second shelf from top)? If so - sweet boots. Would love to hear your thoughts on them. One of my most favourite pairs in my collection.

    The Pike Brothers 1908 Miner jacket in waxed cotton (armor cloth) had a great-looking fit. I have the same one in their hemp denim and it fits pretty similar to a type 1. I love it. I wouldn't say it fits as smart as that Ooe Yofukuten moleskin, but that's mainly because I think you'd take out a contract on me. Also, the Pike waxed number is unlined, so probably doesn't feel so nice on bare arms. Another very fun video, thanks!

      Haha hey don't shy away from sharing opinions on fit! Sounds like a good choice and probably much better than the waxed jacket I was wearing.

  • @aceymac
    @aceymac Před 2 měsíci +1

    Agree, leather jackets (and engineer boots) are. pretty impractical.
    Also live in Cal and deerskin has been my go to, lightweight, much easier moving around, still super tough and resilient, and offers a lot of protection. Recommend looking into.

    Great jackets, but I’m actually interested in your belt. I’m a fan of a 1” belt, but it seems everyone goes for a 1.5” belt which I find bulky and difficult to wear. What belt are you wearing and would you recommend it?

    I agree on hoodies never looking good. Worse yet, I have never felt the hood was useful for anything, most of the time it just gets in the way of outerwear (which is the only thing imo that can benefit from a hood - it doesn't rain indoors....) and keeping it on feels stupid as it obscures your face and isn't even particularly warmer.

    Nicely done, all 'round. You were being generous talking about the Huckberry. I am puzzled that any one thinks that jacket fits well. It basically has no shape unless you're a box. I suppose this is what most guys are used to and they are attempting to please a certain demographic---the fits well enough, costs not too too much, and makes me feel like I care (about fit, money, but not too much about fashion). Filson Cruisers are better fits (and they aren't very good imo), but next to Ship John? Not for everyone but if it fits, you've likely nailed it (and that can never be said about Huckberry). When you compare that fit to, say, the Ooe moleskin it should be apparent to all (and apparently is not). As for other moleskin, PvtWhite VC has a moleskin bomber that I've dropped in on but it too looks like a boxy fit, more Barbour like. The fabric and look is cool and at under $600 it's not ridiculous---but the fit the fit. Sigh. You nailed this one.

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Před 2 měsíci

      Thank you! Yeah I didn't want to be too brutal because perhaps it fits one or two people well, but I have yet to see someone it fits nicely. The frustrating thing is that most influencers are saying that it fits well when it clearly does not. And yeah Ship John is a huge leap for most people as is Freenote even!

      @almostvintagestyle  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Good point. Chore coats would have made a lot of sense, but I'm not personally a big fan of them and thought cardigans would be a fun choice.

    • @bolandjd
      @bolandjd Před 2 měsíci +1

      Chore coats are a good trucker jacket alternative for those of us with long torsos. I think the patch pockets make the longer length look more proportional than a super long trucker. Plus, they're actually useful for, you know...chores. Great for any kind of shop work or yard work. I don't own any French style chore coats, but now Jake's kind of got me interested in a moleskin one.

    • @almostvintagestyle

  • @adamr63
    @adamr63 Před 2 měsíci +1

    The F+T looks like it's 1 size too large for you, meaning it's too fitted for you on the chest.
    But the shoulders, sleeves, and body seem an inch large, at least. if you wear fitted wax jackets in heavier weights they'll feel wrong at first, the quickly mould to your body. and feel a lot like a leather jacket.

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yeah its just not a great pattern for me at all. If I sized it for everything else. It would be far too tight in the chest.

    • @adamr63
      @adamr63 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@almostvintagestyle I'm the same way, falling between medium and large in most brands, but fitted cuts that are on the slim size around the chest don''t work for me, some Japanese brands in particular, otherwise on a case by case basis, usually not a problem because I don't like the overly fitted look, I prefer more fully cut shirts and jackets.

    • @almostvintagestyle
      @almostvintagestyle  Před 2 měsíci
