    Nobody I've seen has ever referred to Slipknot as deathcore. Early Slipknot, pre-Corey, was more avant garde/progressive metal with elements of death metal, disco, blues, funk and industrial. That intro is not actually a part of the song 'Purity', but an interstitial called 'Frail Limb Nursery' that leads up to the song on the album. Purity is actually the name of a girl in a fictional crime case whose story was online and that inspired Corey to write the song. In this story she was buried alive, which is what some of those lyrics in the song refer to. The audio from 'Frail Limb Nursery' was taken from a longer piece created to accompany the crime story which 'Purity' is based on.

    One of Slipknots greatest songs imo. The story behind this song is amazing, you have to look it up plus watch a the clip of Corey talking about what they had to go through to actually get the song back. ( Long story). I've been listening to Slipknot since the beginning and Hollywood you hit it on the head they've just kept adding layers upon layers over the years and now it's just an unbelievable work of art. I call them the Picasso of the music world. Love y'all channel, just recently started watching going on 2 months. Keep doing y'all thing. Salute from Philly and if I had to pick a song it'd be Gematria ( the killing name ).

      @@tiffanykennedy8397 When the album first came out, because of the lawsuit, they had to take the song off the album, to prevent the whole album from being delayed. They replaced it with a song called me inside. After Slipknot won the case, they were able to release the song later on, like on anniversary edition of the album.
      The name change was the band originally called the song Despise and then after Corey read about that website, he changed it to Purity.

      @@m1ryan1andrewsThey never actually got sued. They got the samples from a hoax website and thought it was crime documentation but it was fiction. When they found out I think the label would have pulled it to prevent a lawsuit if they didnt remove it.

    Man, this is my favorite early Slipknot track. I remember I had to snag this one from limewire back in the day, threw it on a burned disc with the rest of the album, and then move it all over to my iPod. Such a great song. I don’t know the specificities, but there were some legal issues with this track, so it was hard to get a hold of for a while.
    Side note, take all of the vocals off this album, and it sounds like the instrumentals could’ve been Korn’s follow up from their debut album. Same producer and it really shows. Thanks for reacting to this one 🖤🙏🏻

    When doing this song live, Corey introduces it by saying "This is a song about a girl in a box." This is one of the songs they've done about serial killer type stuff, the other that comes to mind being Iowa, but death core (and related death metal) doesn't have anything necessarily to do with gore or murdering or anything like that. You can find songs from their demo before Corey, Mate Feed Kill Repeat, on youtube, but everything on it they've reworked and rerecorded across their first three albums.

Now imagine you were only 20 years old. Purity Knight.

  • @blacktytrix
    @blacktytrix Před 2 lety +1

    This song is one of my favorites off their first album. Love the chorus and how dark the tone of it is (with it being about a story of a girl trapped in a box and buried), especially when coupled with "frail limb nursery" (which is the dark little interlude at the beginning with the girl talking) that flows from "tattered and torn" into purity like in the video. Shame that for the longest time a lawsuit prevented them from doing stuff with frail limb nursery and purity. I don't remember the full specifics but I advise you to look into it, it's pretty interesting.
    And as for bam bam bigelow, I think he started out with that name but there was a time in wccw where he portrayed a Russian as 'crusher yurkov' for some reason. And his name is Scott bigelow so it's his actual last name, which makes sense why he'd incorporate it into his gimmick. Makes it more authentic.

    Um as a drummer,guitarist, and vocalist that is very familiar with these genres and what is in a genre I can confirm Slipknot is not deathcore!! Slipknot in the late 90s came out as a new wave of American heavy metal with Nu metal elements on some songs and came out during the NU metal explosion
