That tiny little stage couldn't contain their energy. I find it humorous seeing them all packed together like sardines.
That's how the first 3 years of Slipknot shows were. It was honestly better when they had small venues.

Conan was one of the few late night talk shows who would have more extreme metal acts on, they would even do a sketch every appearance that they didn't book the real Slipknot but instead accidentally booked a fictional comedy vaudeville act called 'Slipnuts", who were just three guys who would sing songs about slipping on peanut shells.

When they 1st appeared on the show they performed Wait and Bleed. They also have appeared on the Jay Leno show and at the Jimmy Kimmel Live. Fun fact, years after this performance Conan arranged for a “band” called Slipnutz to open for Slipknot at a show they did at the Continental Arena in NJ, which consisted of 3 dudes just singing about slipping on nuts, needless to say the fans did not like it 😂
Still got the VHS and memories of literally fending the TV from my family til it was recorded. It was so good. Also got slipnuts too. Love the faces of the pit as they come out. Also Clowns little dance/walk as they all greeted each other lol
Conan is actually known to have some of the best live performances on his show. I first started watching him back when he first got his show because he’d have performances by people you really wouldn’t see anywhere else on TV. I continued watching because Conan is my generations Letterman and Carson. And because Norm MacDonald was always on there.
Conan in the early 2000s always played some of the best metal/rock bands that no other networks would touch

Back when bands actually played live on TV
I read the TV guide in the early 2000's in Aus, saw the knot+Conan, I recorded it and still have a VHS player to occasionally watch it!! Still awesome!
The first TV show I saw Slipknot on in the UK was when they performed 'Wait And Bleed' on TFI Friday. That's definitely one to watch. I think the most insane performance though was from the clip I've seen on CZcams where they played 'The Blister Exists' on Jimmy Kimmel. They went harder on that than they did on Conan.
The TFI performance is awesome. They lose a camera man half way through as the crowd is going mental 😂

It's taken me the better part of 20 years to appreciate Slipknot as a group. In many ways they are like America's version of Rammstein.
I love this one, I remember seeing it. It’s always a vibe when everyone is banging at the same time. It’s like “the wave” at a baseball game. But better.
Can't believe Paul was able to get away with that with no problems. That's awesome! And as far as the crowd goes, the people knew Slipknot was going to be there and they had a lot of fans there for sure
They were also on jimmy Kimmel. Did a song out in the parking lot. Can see the crowd reaction in that one.

Jay Weinberg's father Max, also a drummer BTW, was the drummer and bandleader on Late Night with Conan O'Brien back in the day. I bet that after seeing the 'Knot perform that night, his young life would forever change... 😁😁😁
Fun Fact: Jay Weinberg, the Actual Drummer was 10 in 2001 and he meet the band through his Father, Max who was Drummer of Conan's band

True story: Conan is how I found out about Slipknot in 99. Been a fan ever since. Part of the reason I rock with Conan for life. Him and Craig Ferguson are the best talk show host ever

When you were talking about imagining Grandma watching Conan late night and listening to Slipknot, I was thinking about another video you guys would have a fun time reacting to. Watch an episode of Elders reacting to Slipknot. This guy in that episode named Yehuda totally gets it. He was the one that said, "man I wish I was at this concert." I saw them play live for the 1st time ever a few weeks ago.
Their best live TV appearance was surprisingly The Blister Exists on Kimmel. The also performed Sic on letterman abs Walt And Bleed on Conan.
Definitely react to wait and bleed live on Conan. They also did before I forget on Conan. There’s loads to be fair . They played sic on a random French tv show in 2000 . They played duality live on Jay Leno. They played a few songs live on Jimmy Kimmel . Oh and I almost forgot, they played wait and bleed on a uk show called TFI Friday and it’s mental .
The thing that’s great about Slipknot is even though it’s a tv performance they just as hard as they would if it was an actual show

I found a band a few days ago called EXTERMINATION DISMEMBERMENT, the song corpsepit I've played more times I can count!! Everyone check out that song. It's a genre I've never heard before. Slamming brutal death metal. They are also from Belarus so they do the English and Russian like Alex Terrible.
Man oh man, this was an event. I remember being pumped for this!! Had my VCR ready and recorded it live. I watched that tape multiple times daily with friends and family! Great reaction guys!!!

The year is 2001, the absolute peak of Nü Metal! "Iowa" was about to come out, and Slipknot went there to promote the new record. Nü Metal was super mainstream around that time, so it's no surprise to see a band like Slipknot in a late night show. In fact, many Nü Metal bands were given the same opportunity in the late 90s and early 00s. Limp Bizkit, P.O.D., Coal Chamber, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, Deftones, among others, they all performed live on Jay Leno, Conan, and other late night shows. P.O.D. even introduced Katy Perry to the world on a Jay Leno show in 2006. So you can tell how big/popular these bands and the movement were back in the day 🤘🔥

I remember seeing tham on his show for the first time. They were just starting to take off. I had heard them on the radio but had no idea what they looked like. After that all I knew was that they wore red jump suits. I saw this performance too and it was mind blowing, since he usually had groups like Hootie and the Blowfish on.

Conan had a lot of bands that other late night shows would not touch. Jimmy Kimmel Live is the best show currently for seeing more metal bands. He had Ghost on a few months ago.

Y'all are portraying Conan in a different light. He had more metal artists perform on his show than Letterman or Leno because people didn't accept or think it was safe to do so. Conan was the middle finger. Slipknot actually advertised this upcoming live event on Conan through their website back in the day.
Imo Conan helped to pave the way for heavier bands to perform on tv in a time when only big pop stars, classic rock and country dominated. This wasn't the beginning by far but they were on his show performing Wait and Bleed if I recall. Also don't forget the performance tons of people have reacted to from Disturbed doing the Sound Of Silence was on Conan, so take that poppy title back and give that man his flowers. Kimmel is the only other one that made a stage for groups but now he's a political shill and useless. Late Night tv is a husk of what it use to be. I miss Conan, wish he would've kept going.
Conan was on late after Jay Leno. His audience then was mostly younger people so they probably did love it.
Imagine being a kid, and begging to just stay up late for the first time, and mom says yes, then to her horror this band comes on, and then little billy has to go to bed by 10pm on weekends until he is 18.

Conan OBrian used to have metal bands on all the time years ago when he was smaller & in the later night slot.
If it weren't for Conan Jay Weinberg wouldn't be Slipknot's drummer. He was introduced by Jay's dad Max who was the Conan shows drummer.

Dude. Nils dominator Fjellstrom the drummer is the most amazing drummer you will ever see. Watch anything with him on a drum cam and it will guarantee you to forget all who’ve come before. The band is Dark Funeral, but tune out vocals if it’s too harsh just listen to drums and tune rest out. I don’t. But you MIGHT have trouble with the religious friends. Which I’m Christian,but this dude is master level good. Speed and technicality.
