The song about Emperor Tewodros II who reunited Ethiopia in 1860s ending 'Age of Princes' (where Warlords governed their own territory in Ethiopia). When the British came to catch him after killing most of his army, he shot himself dead refusing to give up his hand to a European.

Emperor Tewodros II was the king of Ethiopia in the 19th century and a great leader who brought Ethiopia together and dreamed of a modern Ethiopia. Although the story is long, Tewodros Kassahun (Teddy Afro) describes it as understandable. To raise some points
    - His sacrifice for the unity of Ethiopia .
    - The first technological revolution in Ethiopia and Africa, which began in Gafat (where the "Sebastopol" cannon was built by missionaries from Europe)
    - When the British came to capture him, he went to Mount "Meqdella" to fight them, but Emperor Tewodros, discouraged by the advancing British army and the death of his right-hand man, Gebreye, committed suicide on Easter Sunday in 1860 E.C. (1968G.C).
And Gonder was the former capital city of ethiopia.
Before Emperor Tewodros II of Ethiopia, he was known as Kassa Hailu.

This is a very touching music about one of the icons in Ethiopian modern history who tried their best to unite the nation as one (and more). The king mentioned in this music is called Atse(a title, like saying king) Tewedros, apparently he had the same name as the musican himself. The history about these king is very interesting. His birth place is a place called Gondar which is also mentioned in the music. He was a very revolutionary king is some ways and wanted to introduce Ethiopia with science and technology. Not the perfect person, but he was a visionary in his time, and he tried his best. He even wrote many letters to queen Elizibate of the time asking to exchange knowlege, but the other side didn't want to help. They instead sent him catholic missionaries. That pissed off the king, he wanted to learn new technologies, but he ended up with religious people who have few disagreements with his faith (even though both of them were christians), so he ended up imprisioning them and forcing them to make him a weapon, and for the first time in Ethiopia they made him a mortar but it only fired once( :) what did you expect?). Any ways, following that the English came for a revenge, and this couroges king who did many great things to our country didn't want to give up for the enemy so he commited a suicide at the last moment. But that sad story didn't end their. The English, proude of their victory, cut his hair (he had long once) and took it as a sovinere, allong with thousands of looted books containig many local knowleges about plants, astronmy and more... (it is even rumored these books have factual values used to these days). They also took his son with them. Most of the lootted stuffs (like crosses form the churches) are displayed in english museums(just found these link, czcams.com/video/b2B4iYuHzuA/video.html) (What? WHY? Seriously?... but ya). Lately, the stolen hair was returened (as form of a lease (what a sarcasim?)).
In this musics, the mucisian teddy mentions something about getting a piece of the king's hair for ethiopia as a symbol and representation of his dream for united ethiopia. And as you said the poeople are crying because the music is very touching to us (atleast that women and me). He mentions how we once were a great nation but how we are amplifying our differences and distroying our self. He also have one line about how we were united with Eritriea and how we couldn't keep that. In a nutshell, he is preaching about unity.
I am almost crying when I wrote this. Men, I am feeling emotional. I want to see all of Africa to proseper, I atleast want every body in the world to have the basic necesaties.
And you guys, I love what you are doing, my friend recomeneded one of your videos you did about Ethiopia and look at me I am still here after 4 hours. I don't even listen to music at all but I have atleast seen 10 of your videos. And you both are very cute and beautiful (handsome). LOVE FROM THE WORLD..... Like the open mindedness and the postivity.

yeah his songs are either in Amharic or other local languages of Ethiopia, so it's hard to go global if you dont sing English. i have always said that, teddy afro is a rebirth of the bob dylans, bob marleys, Freddie mercurys of the world. he is a once in a lifetime type of talent. i would be doing him a disservice trying to express how mind bogglingly talented this man is. he is truly a living icon and one of the greatest gifts to the art in the history of music.
that being said, since u mentioned going international, his last album titled Ethiopia, debuted number one on world album charts on billboard. first Ethiopian album and 1st African non english album to do so. sold over a million copies in its first week of release. one of the best selling albums worldwide. i love how you appreciate his craft and talent even without understanding the lyrics. that's saying a lot because his writing and lyrics are his greatest abilities. anyways love yall reactions. keep them coming

The 'T' sign this time is for Tewodros II - King of Ethiopia in mid 1800's :) He was from Gonder(Northern Ethiopia) and that's what the song is all about. He is celebrated by most Ethiopians as a hero since he refused to surrender to the British army and opt to shot himself instead

This music tells the strength of Ethiopian people and the King Tewodros who was died by himself by refusing and saying no the colonization of Ethiopia by Italy. It also motivates the current generation to have strong bonded love and unification to win our internal and external enemies as the time of Adwa victory(Italy defeated by Ethiopia at the battle of Adwa) and this freedom was brought not only for Ethiopia but also for whole of Africa!!! Ethiopia is the strongest and promised country!!!

Guys this is our difference between you Ethiopia with the rest of the world. When we hear this kind of music we will lose our fear to war or death. In Amharic we call it ‘ wene ‘ you guys hear it like a music or for fun. But we our internal energy may come out. The other difference is we are the most loving people’s in the world, but when we hate(when we have problem) we are sooooooo United, strong, fearless. And you can confirm this things in this year history. We love you guys keep it going and we will support 👍
