One punch man's manga is a masterpiece. So I colored it to make it better using AI. Hopefully, I didn't ruin it.
AI colorization for line art is surprisingly cool, as it is also fundamentally different from image colorization. I am just truly amazed by how widely available open-sourced programs there are out there and it is always so fascinating to learn about it.
I bet people can get real "creative" with this program huhh

Three years ago I thought that 3d might eradicate drawing manga - today I learned that AI and a good mangaka eradicates 3d. It's insane how fast this moves.
3d if you mean digital drawing but like 3d models bruh

Lots of anime and manga are made by using 3d...you just have to know what you're doing and the limitations of each software.

There's this team of fans that are colouring Berserk, and it just made me realize how much better manga is with colour, like the fight in the Lost Children Arc with colour is insanely beautiful

This is almost revolutionary, it does not have to be pretty, if what you said about how little references required is true, base solely on the amount of work saved to colorize is amazing.
It definitely added warm temperature to the OPM ones, i definitely noticed it the most on there, it gave me the vibes of how classic animes used to have those color schemes and it brought me those nostalgic days, that ai is definitely doing a really good job in my opinion.

A tutorial on what you need and how to do this would be A+ Currently trying and it's not working properly on my Wacom pen computer, maybe it's my graphics card or something. Not sure. But if this becomes more accessible and easy to use... Game Changer.

i imagine its extremely useful for manga artists that need to meet quotas, like weekly releases and such

For a manga industry standpoint. Its literally does nothing to them but for people who make a webcomic like tower of god, solo leveling, the god of highschool etc, this actually will help a lot.
I don't understand, why is everyone so obsessed with colored pages? The artistry of black and white is very significant. It's like the revolution of 3d modeling, frankly that doesn't get rid of the principles found in 2d drawing. And in fact, the reason you learn to draw is not to be able to just for execution, but to be able to judge the work and its quality. That's why, and to me color in manga is not better than manga that is in black and white. One can argue that people that use 3d models already have things that function like ai, in that when an object is placed it stimulates the elements of that setting based on computer stimulations without having someone manually adjusting it. But we already know that if that is done by someone who has no level of artistry and understanding of what they do, they frankly are going to make something crappy lol.
That's the problem, is that revolutions in ai still mean that you need to be educated in certain things to be able to judge it properly, or understand the principles behind it. Like how you still need to understand how to do basic arithmetic despite having calculators. You understand the process. People for example, that try to use 3d modeling without any understanding of 2d principles will always make shitty work. Human work is good if it's done by someone who understand what they're doing, something created by a human is not innately good by nature.

Facts it already looks bomb as fuck , just seeing the last moment of lost children arc page being coloured gave such an immense passionate feeling. (The one where she wanted to join Guts but Guts couldn’t take her with him thanks to the brand.)

Good god in a few years we'll be able to turn pages into video and watch it subtitled, ai could eventually add music and voice overs.
That's one of the reasons I've fallen in love with manhwa. The way Tower of God, Solo Leveling or Hardcore Leveling Warrior are shown... Marvelous. As much as I love manga, reading manhwa is a completely different experience.

Sure it won't "go away" per sé, but ugly cgi is increasingly used for more and more anime, including the really succesful ones, because of how little money studios actually make. Illegal streaming services and such.
If some technique can vastly decrease the amount of time required to animate, while still keeping a genuine standard of quality, then yes, it might ensure detailed hand-drawn animation might not just perish in exchange for fake-looking CGI that doesn't blend well with the environment.
Not saying that this is a neccesary outcome, but it's certainly possible.

So does anyone actually know how to open the app to use it- I have the zip file installed, I extracted the files, and I go to open up the application and nothing happens. Is there something inside the folder that needs to be opened or something? If anyone knows please help me out.
@@RSFArocks Ok I got it to open. Now when I have my image- I want it to have the entire thing selected as my painting region. How do I stretch it out? Are there buttons I have to press? I'm trying to click and drag and I don't know if it either doesn't work at all or works but takes a long time to load. Please answer asap cuz I need to learn how to use this

Shueisha releases a lot of manga digitally colored. One Piece, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Death Note, Yu-Gi-Oh, Hunter X Hunter, Dragonball (Z and Super included), Toriko, Yu Yu Hakusho, To Love Ru, Bakuman, I could literally go on forever. And all of these are far superior to any fan-coloring I've seen. Not only are they very thorough in having manga-accurate color schemes (even when the anime got them wrong), but the shading style often resembles the volume covers as closely as possible.
My only two complaints are having no English releases (With the only exception being Viz's release of Dragon Ball Z in full color, and Viz didn't even release it all), and there are no print versions of these colorizations (Again, the only exception is Viz's release of Dragon Ball Z in full color). I wouldn't need a print version except these colored manga are released as e-books at such a low resolution (1200 x 760 to be exact). And we know for a fact that Shueisha colorizes at a much higher resolution, potentially even native-res.
The only reason I bring this up here is that the need for AI-colored manga is kind of absent because of Shueisha's efforts. Well actually now that I think of it, it's entirely possible that Shueisha uses AI themselves. I am quite doubtful, however. At most, they probably use AI to help the people that still have to manually colorize these volumes.

That’s a nice look at how the AI could color pages, but if you compared it to manhwa that colors the pages you can see the difference between them and how much the AI is behind in terms of better coloring.
It also looks pretty weird at certain pages during the animation and not to mention that it made some scenes less impactful.
Coloring/Animation/Voicing can make the story a lot better if it was done correctly, but the current AI doesn’t seem to get to that point (it’s still kinda cool though).

I mean, this could lower the prices for making anime or coloured manga in a future, different animes with lower budgets could make it, and some could lower the budgrt used in colouring, and instead use it into animation, adding more and more frames which many anime lack because of their already low budget or low ammount of time.
