Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI)

- MEDICAL ANIMATION TRANSCRIPT: If you have a severe problem with the aortic valve in your heart, your doctor may recommend a transcatheter aortic valve implantation, or TAVI. It's also known as transcatheter aortic valve replacement, or TAVR. Your aortic valve is one of the four valves in your heart. It lies between your left ventricle, or lower left chamber, and the large blood vessel supplying oxygen rich blood to your body, called the aorta. When your left ventricle contracts during each heartbeat, it pushes blood through three flexible cup-like leaflets that make up your aortic valve. When your left ventricle relaxes, your aortic valve closes to prevent blood from flowing back into your left ventricle. As you get older, your aortic valve may develop deposits of calcium that cause your leaflets to get thicker and less flexible. In this condition, your leaflets may not open fully. This condition, called calcific aortic valve stenosis, creates a narrowed opening that reduces the amount of blood flowing into your aorta and out to your body. As a result, the wall of your left ventricle thickens because it has to work harder to pump blood through the narrowed valve opening. At the beginning of your procedure, your doctor will make a small incision in your groin. After creating an opening in a blood vessel called the femoral artery your doctor will insert a flexible tube, called an introducer sheath. Through the sheath, your doctor will insert a flexible guidewire into your femoral artery. The guidewire will be passed through your femoral artery all the way up to your aorta. Then, the guidewire will be pushed through the opening in your aortic valve and into your left ventricle. Your doctor will use the guidewire to pass a flexible tube called a catheter through your aortic valve. A balloon on the tip of the catheter will be inflated to widen the opening in your aortic valve, to push the valve leaflets to the sides. After deflating the balloon, your doctor will remove the catheter. The replacement valve consists of a tissue valve surrounded by a wire mesh called a stent. The replacement valve will be compressed and placed on the tip of another catheter. This catheter will be inserted through your aortic valve. When the catheter reaches the opening in your aortic valve, your surgeon will inflate a balloon underneath the replacement valve to expand it and the stent. After placement of the new aortic valve, your doctor will deflate the balloon. The stent will support and secure the replacement valve in place. The catheter and guidewire will be removed. At the end of the procedure, the introducer sheath in your groin will be removed and your skin incision will be closed. You will have another incision on the other side of your groin through which instruments were inserted to monitor your heart during the procedure. This skin incision will also be closed. To find out more about transcatheter aortic valve implantation, talk to your healthcare practitioner.

I had this done one year ago...I had just moved into the "serious" level, so my cardiologist sent me to an excellent specialist, who performed this remarkable procedure...Very smooth, no problems, and my new valve will likely last longer than I will (age 77). do not even hesitate to do this, if recommended!...Having a seriously clogged Aortic valve give you a survival rate of 50% after two years, without replacement. I was in hospital at 6am, out by 5pm! Amazing.
I am going to have the same tommower😅

Thank you for your post… very encouraging.
How much was it?
What a great option compared to open heart, Fantastic crystal clear animation, best clip I have seen to date.
Just had this procedure done. I am very grateful to not have open heart surgery !!
This was an awesome demonstration . I’m going to have TAVR on July 18, makes me feel better knowing what will take place.
Hii please share your result.. my mother is also planing for the same
How did your surgery go?
Hi I am also planning for surgery. I need your suggestions which valve is better

Absolutely Amazing
Nice experience
Great animation
Thank you so much for this message 🙏🏻 because my mom is a heart patient
Apne karwaya phr TAVI treatment? My father is also heart patients and Dr say about bypass

Thanks for nice information about health care...☺🙏
This video helped me a lot. Thank you all

My sister by birth had aerotic valve problem and was replaced to her at the age of 30 .. She is fine now at 50
How did they find out she had a problem what symptoms did she have
@Daz602 people with Aortic stenosis usually have shortness of breathe, chest pain, syncope.
It's extreme rare for people to aortic stenosis in their 30s.
Usually older groups 75 and above
@@GudJonnyCakes at the age of 5 she had breathing problem and various symptoms of heart pain .... Quite often sickness drs examined her this is during 19780

My mom is going to have the bypass surgery today.. I’m so scared.. I hope everything will go well 🤞🏼🙏🏼…does this surgery shortens your lifespan?

I have Mitral Valve leak. Do not know if it can also be treated the same way. Very worried.
You got this the little valve is so easy to replace I have had two aortic one they said what would last for like 8 years last at 5:00 then they just replaced another one that will be good for 18 after that he told me I am not available for anymore the little valves the mitral valve are easy to fix
Go for mitraclip procedure
Merci beaucoup
I have quite few questions 1. What are the chances that this guide wire might rupture the blood vessel artery? 2. How do you know that the ballooning site of this introducer sheath is at the site of aortic valve?
this is based on my own knowledge but I'm sure there's a micro camera attached to the introducer sheath or guide wire that allows the surgeons to see what is going on
@@hilaahmadian2066 @l
Chances of a dissections of the aorta are fairly low, and the procedure is guided via fluoroscopy that is like an X-ray, but better, and in real time, also the position is confirmed with ecocardiography. There's no cameras inside the catheter, all is guide by fluoroscopy and ecocardiography.
There are risks with every operation. However, I suppose you only have it done when you are having severe symptoms. That way you have no choice.
Mindblown!
Can this be done to replace an existing Mechanical Aortic Valve with a Tissue Valve?
Hi, I have a problem with the aortic valve. Which valve is better?
Plz help me
Keep it up 👍
Good explanation with animation
12 years ago, I had open heart to have a tissue valve replaced....started getting short of breath when walking or any other activity.....went for yearly check up & told him....went today for an echo....thinking it might have to be replaced again...
This sounds so much easier...wondering what hospital stay is & recovering time...
You go in and out the next day… I just had a Heart Stent in my Aorta. I was exercising (walking) after 2wks. Been almost 3 months & I added more endurance to my workouts (jogging) … Not near a perfect Fix cuz I still get tired when I Overdo it & become short of breath, so SLOW Down, take Life easy & Do Rest. Overall, I do feel Bit Stronger. I just hope i will cont. Improving… 🙏 Has Anyone else had similar experience to Please Share.
The best Chanel for animation , on internet ever❤❤❤❤❤
Great 👍😃
Great
Why thro femoral artery
How would u know that the replacement valve has reached the opening?
using fluoroscopy and contrast

For anyone wondering, open heart surgery still has the best outcomes. By comparison and in the absence of specific information about the patient, this has a 30% higher mortality rate
I am confused... which one is better open heart or this TAVI ? Patient age is 47, and he is diabetic. Please reply.
@@vaishnavigupta8698 Depends if open heart is riskier in a diabetic. I don't know the specifics I'm just a student.

I am nursing student this video is very useful. But difficulty to understand
This is literally just an artificial valve. Instead of having a open heart surgery, they use the femoral artery to place the catheter which is safe and effective for at least 10 years. Usually patients of older group gets this procedure done instead of open heart surgery. Less complications associated with this.
