  • MBTA Commuter Rail (operated by Keolis) Greenbush Line Trains No. 078 (inbound) and 075 (outbound) arrive at Cohasset station. Despite having the same general appearance as all of the other stations on the line, Cohasset is noteworthy because the platform here is actually elevated above a swamp! That's right - the station platform is quite literally a bridge built over wetlands. Additionally, this is also a former junction - the Whitney Spur formerly branched off the Greenbush Line here to serve local industries. This spur has been converted into a rail-trail that now leads down to Wompatuck State Park a short distance south. The Greenbush Line is a former branch line of the Old Colony Railroad that serves Weymouth, Hingham, and Scituate. Originally the line continued south to Duxbury and Plymouth, but this service was discontinued after a hurricane destroyed a major bridge in the 1930s. The line in its current form is the newest MBTA Commuter Rail line to have been built from scratch; service began in 2007 after being delayed for many years due to NIMBYism concerning train noise in and around Hingham Center (this ultimately resulted in the tracks being moved below grade into a cut-and-cover tunnel and a proposed Hingham Center station being eliminated). All stations on the line are modern park-and-ride facilities and few traces of the original station depots remain today.
Both trains consist of multilevel coaches and an HSP46 locomotive, which are the MBTA's newest engines. Most commuter rail services out of South Station operate with either an HSP46 or an F40PH-3C, as these are the only two models that are EPA Tier III compliant which is required due to air quality restrictions in many of the tunnels along the Old Colony Line and the Southwest Corridor.
