Thanks bro I had a bearing blow up in the timing case and it took me the last two days to replace everything and this video helped me set the timing correctly. I thought the engine was going to be blown for sure but it’s running like a top now. 😊

Also note that the top front timing was like 3/4 of a tooth forward on mine to run properly Idky it just is.

Never use ratchet spanner to turn cams, it will snap and bent valves

I was replacing a belt on my 3.0 and with my mother just dying I wasn't thinking clearly but I put the belt on correctly then spun the crank one time which put the cam sprockets pointing down. I came back and looked at it and took the belt off and turned the crank with a ratchet. It did spin. I lined up the marks that were pointing down put the belt back on turned it one more revolution which lined all the marks up. Will I be allowed to turN the engine by the crank if the valves are bent?? I feel compression

    Blessings General,
First off I would like to say, great video.
I believe you the only one that can help me?
When I was putting on the timing belt. The rear cam slipped down like yours did.
So honestly, I just turn it back counterclockwise and slap it together and it will run with no problem?? No bent valves?? Everything still TDC?? So I don’t have to go all the way back around clockwise direction? It didn’t seem to want to go back for me? Is it like a ratchet when I pull it back that it will click?
It’s 4:00 am and I can’t sleeep. Please if you could confirm that this engine ran for you and everything was ok with this project.
I do greatly appreciate you taking the time to make this video and if all possible with a reply. I’m restless.
    Respectfully

Ok group, I triple checked the timing before i started her up. She fired right up, but rpm's were around 2800 at idle. So I shut her off. Doubled check everything again. And realized that i totally forgot radiator fluid. Duhhhhh .... So i added coolant. I didnt let her run more than a minute, I was more concerned about the 2800 rpm at idle. Anyways i added coolant now she will not start at all? Any ideas why?

  • @Scratchthejeepguy
    @Scratchthejeepguy Před 2 lety +1

Quick question for you. I pulled my crankshaft pulley off, then pulled the lower TB cover off. The TB Idler pulley had the ball bearings falling out and was completely shot... when I turned the crank to line up the marks, the front cam mark was off about one tooth, and the rear cam was off by about 4-5 teeth. Can I just remove the TB, manually turn the cams the little bit needed to line up, then reinstall all the pulleys and belt again? The car was running fine, but I think the cam pulleys slipped a few teeth when the idler pulley let go.

@@GeneralMechanicGA I replace the belt on my 3.0 2002 Honda Accord. But with my mother dying I wasn't thinking clearly and turn the engine one revolution by the crank. That left the mark on the cams pointing down, right. I came back a little while later and saw that and freaked out and took the belt off and turn the back Bank with a ratchet and it did spin on me. Then I realized I messed up. I lined it back up the way it was when I took the belt off and put the belt back on then turned the engine one revolution by the crank. My question is since it is a interference engine would I be able to turn the engine if something inside was wrong like with maybe the back cam bending the valves?

@@GeneralMechanicGA Gracias hermano.
      No codigos...

Y mano nadie me da confianza..
      Increible..

Recuerde lean signal mean Engine running rich and rich signal a lean bank

Hi can i rotate the cams to position can go right or left does it matter

    • @GeneralMechanicGA
      @GeneralMechanicGA  Před 5 lety

It doesn’t matter as long as you don’t hit any piston

    • @flordecana1672
      @flordecana1672 Před 5 lety +1

How do you know if it's hitting a piston

Do I need to take all valve off

    • @GeneralMechanicGA
      @GeneralMechanicGA  Před 5 lety +1

Well its gonna get stuck if you touch a piston
Now don’t need to take valves off
Also if you putting engine in time without removing the camshafts off the head just rotate it to time and you will be fine

I thought you're supposed to turn everything clockwise direction not counter when he was turning the rear cam sprocket counter clockwise. Not good sir. Other videos up here advice to turn CLOCKWISE. I'm about to do my 05 Honda Odyssey timing bell. Otherwise good video but just 1 step wrong thank you

No lol, this is very common. The rear one often slips forward or backward. Just take a 17mm wrench and put it back in line👍

KT Tangos is right and Turning them 360 clockwise in this case would cause the Valves to hit a piston since the Crank will not be turning
