    if the old belt is still intact and not jumped time you can create your own timing marks with a marker or something on the timing gears and corresponding marks on the old belt. once it's off count the teeth between the marks and transfer the marks to new belt. so easy and quick, and you really can't mess up the timing.

    Kudos. You always teaching us with your great videos. I'm looking forward to change my timing belt, rebuilt the transmission, and change the rear main seal in my Accord 99 V6 3.0.
    I just wanted to show you and other people here this video in spanish about how to synchronize not the only the camshaft and the crankshaft, but also the other two gears (front and rear where the belt gets around too. Very valuable info. The rear gear has two marks (on the gear and the shaft). And on the front gear you need to get that bolt out to insert a long screwdriver all the way in. That gear has one mark but he says it won't matter if it doesn't have the mark if the screwdriver goes all the way in, I guess just to be safe get that mark and all the screwdriver in. On minute 6:45 he also explains to do not rotate the camshaft without the timing belt, and that if you do, then you should rotate the crankshaft mark on a horizontal plane(way). And depending in what unsynchronized position the crankshaft gear mark, then you move the mark to the closest horizontal plane (90 degrees). And then move your camshaft to put in the right up/mark position so you won't damage the valves. czcams.com/video/b_F-YLZk2tI/video.html

    I love Honda tBelts! I used to use a torch for the balancer bolt but, now I use a tool I made. I took a short 19mm and slid it into a deep socket that is about the same size as the washer and welded them together. That way the washer and the bolt both get hammered, by the impact. It is amazing and has never failed me. It's a 1/2 socket of course.

    • @mikegilmore8998
      @mikegilmore8998 Před 5 lety

      @@troyfall6573 I agree. Pretty much most people recommend an impact rated at >500lb/ft torque for the crank bolt. That plus the special socket should get them off. I haven't done mine yet but I have a 1400 lb/ft electric impact that takes axle nuts and rusted exhaust bolts off like they weren't even there so I'm not too worried.

    I used a 4X Torque Multiplier and have never had any problems removing crank bolts. It is a lot safer, since the torque is gradually applied to the bolt, and I never have a problem where the bolt release and your knuckles smashes into something. Other than the cost I'm surprised that people don't use it more often.

    Found the crank bolt comes out easy with an impact. The rear cam pulley is tricky to center and want to rotate forward or back instead of rest lined up with marks. Do not remove crank pulley Key or if you do realign timing ring, sprocket to crank. Mark old belt teeth before removing tensioner the make same marks on new belt to make sure rear pulley does not skip, crank and front pulley will stay put when using tips in this video.

    Did you brace the engine from underneath to compensate for the engine mount being temporarily remove.

    Thank You Brian. I have a question. I have 2004 Honda Pilot and have an error code 0341 which is the CMP sensor.My mechanic says that I have to remove the timing belt in order to remove the CMP sensor, however, other mechanics say that it is not necessary to remove the timing belt could You please tell me what to do? I am confused also

    So my main question is. Should all indentations match up at the same time when at TDC?

    if the belt snaped, will the valves hit the piston in the 3.0 one?

    After the timing belt change. No engine error, no code. All ok. Except, there is a small faint knoking sound from the engine and the engine seems to be running stronger than before. Meaning, a stronger noise too. Would that be something with the timing belt change?

    question - so you mean to inform us that between 0:30 & 3:45, as long as the markings on he pulleys are aligned with the markings on the motor itself, we will be ok?
    I ask bc Hayne's Manual makes it seem like it is the end of world if one does not align the #1 piston/valve/what have you with "Top Dead Center"...

    It’s a great tech video with good info but why not clean all the power steering fluid and oil that was leaking in there before putting a new belt??

    The timing (pun intended) of this video was poor in my circumstances. But that was out of your control. I just did this job 2 weeks ago on my wife's car with 220,000 miles (second time I've done it on this car, we have had it awhile). Unfortunately I screwed up the timing, the car wouldn't start so I enlisted the help of a mechanic buddy with more experience. I pulled it apart again and found the rear cam was off about 90deg. I'm not sure how that happened, after getting the new timing belt on I checked all my marks or at least thought I did and thought it was all good. I wished I would have marked them all with white paint, that would have helped. I think what I did was while trying to put tension on the belt between the rear and front cam pulleys I turned the rear cam, noticed it turned and turned it back, but it must have moved again and I didn't realize it. So after correcting the timing on all the pulleys the second time around, I had my buddy check and it all looked good. Fortunately turning the motor over with it out of timing didn't bend any valves that I know of and it runs great now.

    I have 2003 Accord V6, won’t start. I know I will need timing belt kit, but how can I know if the valves are damaged? Any input will be helpful.
