Another great video my man! As a tip you can use tin foil to shield components from heat if you don't have kapton tape or another means to shield the components.

Yoey, just so that you will know and others as well. We had a PS5 here which had a problem with a mechanism only. This PS5 had a replacement bought, and we did replace only the bottom, but not the top ;) in it which is metal one with a lot of gears on it. Still didn't work, we had to replace the top one as well. The first one came faulty :D and the customer had to send it away.
Now, there are 3 types of these drives, at least partially incompatible. Watch out when you pick a replacement as some will have cables inserted the other way round and causing the same error you had with a problem of reading discs ;). Worth knowing as all it takes is to turn the cable 180 degrees and insert it back :D.
At the beginning I was waiting for you to say after testing and saying “nothing” 3 times your word “nada” 😂

Nice fix. I can’t help but feel these kind of problems are just one lucky step away from a mosfet just throwing 12v at the apu and turning a chance at a good fix like this, into a parts only board with a fried apu

from my experience, facebook marketplace is a great place to find things to fix. Even better is that you can see the device in person before deciding to purchase. That's not something you can do with ebay, and I find a lot of times, the price of broken items on ebay are terribly high for something that will require generally a lot of work

The donor board wasn't free, I think to be more realistic you should include the price of what the component would've cost if you had to buy it (minus shipping) as that's what somebody doing these repairs on their own who don't have a ton of spare parts laying around would've likely had to pay, so it's relevant information.
Agreed, I don't buy anything that requires in-person pickup. Not worth the stress.
