Oregon is definitely one of the hardest place to hunt elk which make it so rewarding in the end when it comes together well done.
Try western Washington! you got no idea how difficult it is. Killing a bull here is like killing a trophy bull anywhere else

As an Oregonian born in Portland and from childhood to my age now 63 years old, I can say Oregon is total crap to hunt in this state where the roads and forested lands are near all NO TRASSPSSING.
What is open to hunting the gates have what looks like a shopping center parking lot with the very worst Green Horns all in bright hunting cap and vest siting at a clear cut all staring at each other.
You get the idiots making sound shots in the brush to morons all shooting at one animal then fighting who killed it

@@afidbhawkins3173 yessir. I've always wanted to head out west to hunt elk but I saw an episode of meateater that was about them releasing elk in TN so I may not have to go out west. Just head south 2hrs and there they are!!! 😆 I don't know if they have a season for them yet or if they have non resident tags available but I'm damn sure gonna look into it.
Ten days till my elk bow hunting trip. Can't wait.

Looks like the south side of my Umatilla unit. Got a total of 11 days this year in elk woods to get it done. 10 more days to the start of my trips!

I find it silly how I read into people's faces sometimes. This time, once it was confirmed they'd gotten skunked, I was looking at the way Charlie looked at Jason and thought to myself, "He has the look of someone who wants to say, 'But, you promised me elk!'" Hahahaha. I have no way of knowing if that were true, of course. Regardless, nice country, nice calling, fun hunt. Thanks for sharing.

I always have seen huge bulls around Olive lake. Lots of them sometimes.
There was a time i enjoyed watching how rich folks hunt.
I honestly don't even really like bow hunting but rifle season is a joke here on the coast. There's a ton of people during archery season but its insane how many flatlanders there are.they have just ruined it. I think there should be a special season for non-residents/city folk.

Brother you made one mistake on the bull coming up to the top the ridge. You should have been standing you could have shot over those low bushes. Tuff break. Great hunt.

Serious question. I’ve been deer hunting for 30 years, and tend to be quite successful, but I’ve only elk hunted once and admit I’m a novice. To me, these guys seem to be overthinking this in the extreme, to the point it inhibits their hunting, but I could be wildly off-base. Is this the level of analysis for the most successful elk hunters?

Estrus scent would be a no brainer if you can get it. Stuff works. And it over powers the human scent. Bull doesn't care about human if there is a cow in heat in the middle of them. Use if for whitetail hunting all the time in a tree stand.

Archery elk hunting is fun and challenging, then throw in the wolves you end up calling in wolves or the elk run hunting over, that's why in montana will kill wolves they have ruined hunting no elk, deer, or grouse. Colorado will find out soon enough just like Washington Idaho Wyoming montana and probably Oregon

The Umatilla forest is 1.4 million acresnof public land...its not a secret. It gets hunted every year
