I just love this performance, and Marko! It’s also lovely, how Floor stays in the background, leaving the stage to Marko, who really deserves it with this beautiful song of his. Just epic! Thank you for this one!

And, well, having Floor as your backup vocalist, you know you are a Legend, that Marko unquestionably is !!!
Floor steps back out of the spotlight during a lot of songs. Guitar solos, Marko singing, Troy playing the pipes, whatever it is, Floor steps back from the mic out of the spotlight, while the others have their moment. Floor is a team player. She has said on multiple occasions that Tuomas (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish) makes Nightwish run, not her.

Marko's voice is astounding! And to be out by himself in front of such a huge crowd and being completely at home there is remarkable. Of course Floor is a team player! She knows it's not the 'Floor Show' this is NIGHTWISH! And yes, Tuomas is the mastermind, the center of the NW universe who is also a team player. This is what makes the band so amazing and so cool. Each member is a powerhouse but together they rise to the stars! 🤘❤️🤘
The spoken part roughly translates to "If I play the chorus, you're gonna sing along, right?" - "Yeah!" - "Are you sure?" - "Yeah!" - "Ok, let's do it".
Marko brought the music with him from Tarot, the band he was lead in before he joined Nightwish. It didn't fit with them. Tuomas heard him playing it one day, decided that it would make a great song, and wrote the lyrics about a lonely Lighthouse keeper. Anette era, from the 2007 Dark Passion Play album.
There is a longer video with the intro where Marko tells the crowd that he is one guy with a guitar and 20k people, so he better come up with something. The other 'weasels' left him. lol
Troy is playing his Irish Low Whistle. Tampere is in Finland, this concert was July 2015. You were right that Tampere is 3 syllables. If you check out Stargazers from this show, you can hear Floor pronounce it in the intro.

They also have a doc for the Imaginarium album, and Annete does a tour of the remote recording studio they used. (The most important place is the basement sauna). In another video Tuomas and Marko also show the studio, and talk about Genelec, a favorite brand of studio monitors.
This is my absolute favorite Marko/Nightwish song. The ease with which he commands the attention of the entire crowd and his joy in performing shine through. And, of course, there is that wonderful clean voice of his soaring above it all, with that characteristic yell at the end. And when everyone joins in, but still giving Marko the lead I smile. Every time I watch it, it brings me joy. What a truly great performer Marko is!
I was thinking about hiom standing there out by himself in front of an enormous crowd in the daylight. How daunting that would have been, at least for me personally! By the way, I asked my wife if she noticed his pants and she didn't. Did you? It was made from recycling many other pants!😁 I truly love his powerful, resonating voice! @@BemusingBill I have always noticed his pants because they are so sharp looking, but I never noticed that this pair are made from parts of other pants. What I did notice is that he doesn't have a whole closet of costumes. He wears a couple for quite a while before he moves on to something else. Personally, I like his kilt best.

I see your found 🥰 and admiration to this band as I am and we all have. The tears are real and yes I found myself first seeing each song for the first time I shed tears. I still time to time get the water in the eyes seeing your reactions. The band is SO emotional in every performance it absolutely amazing. Tuomas’s abilities to capture elements that not many composers or writers can do. As for Marko, this guy is the real deal and found over the years of following NW. Is or should I say was the difference maker to the band. Nothing against all the other members….. He’s got the ability to sing with any front women of the band and contribute that image and playing of his instrument like no other! Just sad to know he’s gone. Hopefully Jukka (NWs newest bassist) can be more a contributor to band on this next new album.

@@BemusingBill The longer version was fan released a few years before this version, this version was officially released by the band, so even though it's missing a bit of audience interaction it's the more appropriate version to react to.

Great reaction to an absolutely beautiful song. It rarely fails to bring on the waterworks for me as well, there's just something about it that really gets into your soul. There's a newer song that I really love that people rarely react to because it was released shortly before Marko left, so there isn't a live version of it. I'd really like to recommend Endlessness by Nightwish. I've never heard a single song that evokes the feelings that this one does.

Haha, you're bandana fits this song! Floor had to laugh at the end because Marko ended the song way louder than was the plan so she had to step up vocally. Btw. There is a beautiful music video of this song (and also a docu "Making of Islander") with Anette and, although I'm sorry to say, I do not like her voice very much, this song fits her voice perfectly. The same song but more campfire-ish (literally). Worth checking them out!

I'm glad you did this song. He sounds amazing doing this with Floor here. But you should definitely check out the album version as well. Both versions are amazing. This song is just so powerful. "While Your Lips Are Still Red" is another one Marko sings pretty much solo. And it'll get you right in the gut too. It's another one you should definitely check out.

I know this is going to sound crazy but where is the in my opinion better version though it's only aproxily 15 seconds longer cuz the beginning is awesome his interaction with the crowd is pretty funny I haven't seen anyone react to it in quite a while and to be honest I only watch it because I love this song

It's funny how the mind works. I know you refer to yourself sometimes as "Uncle Bill," but today for some reason it took me back to a series of classes I took from a guy who teaches property and casualty insurance for taking the Michigan state licensing exam, who also calls himself "Uncle Bill." Quite an amusing, or perhaps I should say "bemusing," guy--like yourself. What I liked about him was that he was able to keep the subject of insurance entertaining with his occasional witty remarks or eccentric mannerisms, while also being informative. A better teacher, I'd say, than many of the college professors I took classes with because he managed to made a dry and boring subject interesting, no mean feat I'd say. He actually has videos on CZcams that are worth checking out even if you have no interest whatsoever in learning about insurance lol. And that leads me to the reason I mentioned him and how you reminded me of him, because it prompted me to binge-watch some of his old vids lmao. But I digress...
This is one of my favorite performances featuring Marko. I love the passion and power in his voice, and when Floor joins in with the rest of the band it is magical. Reminds me of some of the great outdoor concerts I've seen over the years By the way, as another commenter said, Tampere is in Finland, so basically a hometown crowd you could say. Nightwish also made a music video of this song featuring a prior female singer named Annette, who has more of a "pop"-sounding voice than Floor. Sonically, I prefer the live version but the vid is interesting visually and musically, well it's still Nightwish so by rule it can't be bad. Now I've got to go back and watch your reaction to "Poet and the Pendulum," which I somehow missed. Along with "The Greatest Story Ever Told," PATP is one of Tuomas's great magnum opuses, as I think many in the Nightwish Army would agree, so I can't wait to check it out. As far as the fisrt part of your comment, I call myself 'Uncle Bill' because when we first started there were many people who said I reminded them of an uncle that may have passed on or like hanging out with an uncle that would share music and tell stories. There have been a few that said they had an Uncle Bill that I reminded them of. So, I've taken on the mantle of Uncle as a man who gives warm and cozy vibes and makes you laugh and maybe cry along with. It's rare to have a college professor like that! The ones I remember most were the more eccentric ones-sometimes mean, sometimes funny.
As far as NW is concerned, I started with Ghost Love Score and made my way to TPatP just before Christmas as I had promised. I can't wait to read your comments on those! Thank you!🤘🤘
