    Mike, glad to see you cross your safety chains. Forms a pocket to catch the trailer if it should come loose from the truck. Many people go left chain to left side and right to richt, if it comes loose the nose goes right to the road.

    I worked for a trucking company back in the 80’s (J.B. Hunt) and every truck had a Bible in it. J.B. told us if we didn’t want the Bible in the truck to give it to the guys in the guard shack when we left the terminal. Being a believer I can’t see why anyone would throw it out but I guess some guys did. J.B. Hunt was a preacher and a real good guy to work for. 👍

    You are going to like having that trailer. My friend and I bought a Long Trail 10' dump last year and use it all the time for firewood, mulch, sand and loam. Enjoy! PS: Melissa is hilarious on her initial excitement for this new trailer. NOT!!!! I am convinced she would be much more excited with a pool.

    Go ahead and make you some 2x12 sides to add extra height. It’s good for mulch ,dirt , gravel. And it’s not the pulling it’s the stopping where I’d be worried about 1/2 ton.

    • @rnrudynh1427
      @rnrudynh1427 Před 5 lety +5

      @@Snarkapotamus cars and trucks today are built to be disposable after five years or so. The point about safely braking over a long service life is legit in my eyes. Trucks now a days especially the 1500 s have light duty brakes. The trailer has it's own braking system true but that mass, pressure and wear and tear is sent right into the towing vehicle via the hitch. It's science...I think.

      BILL UPSTATE NY I’m not trying to be rude I have a 7.3 single wheel one ton with a six speed an occasionally haul 5-6 tons of gravel in a similar trailer and know the weight is heavy and you have to watch. I’m not saying it can’t be done with 1/2 ton I’d just be cautious abt it.

One thing I would suggest that I did was fix it so I use the battery off my truck so I dont have to keep a battery charged to run it. Good luck and keep up the good work.

    That is a great dump trailer. A few years back I bought a 14' dumper to use for the construction dumpster when we had our house built. I hauled the waste to the trash train in our town and saved money (not quite enough to pay for the trailer, but over half of it anyway), and it is the most convenient addition to my outdoor equipment. So convenient to use, tows great, easy to back up, dumps fast, and now will be used to haul stone, pea gravel, and some other things... You will be very happy for this purchase! Glad you added it to your arsenal! Great video, by the way! Enjoyed it!

    I picture Mike doing this the hard way. My easy way: Use the RK55 to load a pre-stacked tote on the trailer, and strap it down. Add two more to get a full cord of wood (you should be able to get two totes on there side-by-side). When you get to the dump site, on the back tote(s), put just a strap on the back tote(s) at just the bottom near the back. Raise the trailer, the back tote(s) pivot down to the trailer floor, and all the wood comes out. Lower the trailer, remove the back tote(s) out of the trailer (maybe do this part before lowering the trailer?), repeat for the other next row of totes. Reload tote(s) onto the trailer and strap down again. This might be more work in manually handling totes when dumping, but it seems like a lot less work to load all of that firewood. And a lot less time.

    Sweet dump. The tie down rings in the bed - nice feature for equipment hauling. like the sideboard stake holders. Good cycle up and down on the lift. Way nice angel on the bed when up. Happy to see the safety pole for working under the bed. I could go on but you know all that. Melissa should grab the RK24 w/bucket and fill the bed with the wood. Cross fit or not, save the back - equipment there to be used for that purpose. Oh by the by, did I say "Sweet Dump Trailer?" Have fun & stay safe.

    Very similar to mine. I don’t have aluminum ramps, but I wish I did. I have the tarp from the front which I use more than I thought I would. I have dual hydraulics, power up and power down. One thing about that, you absolutely have to make sure that this is fully powered before you use it or you may get stuck with it powered up position if the battery dies. Please don’t ask how I know this. You can ask my wife though, that would be a funny conversation!
    I pull mine loaded to the 10 K max with a 6 cylinder F150 eco boost with no problems. Don’t fret Mike.

    When my brothers and I were kids we use to do house chores and cleaning, dusting and bathrooms on Saturdays and then do outdoor chores for dad like grass and wood and whatever. Yet my sisters never lifted a finger outside. So it is amazing to see all these CZcams channels that the women are actually able and willing to get in there and do outdoor work, heavy lifting and work machines! Just the other day my aunt called me because for 3 days she wasn't using the front door because the cat brought a rabbit home and left the remains at the front step! Also the 10 cord of wood that I slaved over from trees in bush thru summer heat to splitting and stacking that i bring right to the house.... The split pieces are too "heavy" to carry to the stove! If it was up to them I would have to cut pieces into kindling and even then they would complain that it is too cold in winter for them to open side door and grab the wood for stove! Sometimes I just shake my head in disbelief! Especially now that i see how much Melissa does and many other women who are building their own homes side by side with their husbands while taking care of family and sometimes even during pregnancy! I'm not married but if I were looking i now have a better knowledge to make an informed decision... Thank you!

    I have pretty much the exact same dump trailer. Different name on it, but it looks identical, even the color. Only issue I've had is the factory wiring is crap, and mice ate it up. That's been true of every trailer I've ever bought, so after a couple years I know I'm going to have to re-wire and do it the right way, and put proper grommets in the holes in the frame. Our local quarry requires you to have a tarp, so for a couple hundred bucks I installed one. Installed right into those large holes in the raised section up front. Pull it out and bungee in the back.....Crank the handle to roll it back up when done. Takes 30 seconds. It's a really handy trailer to have because you can haul anything from firewood to gravel/sand/dirt to lawnmowers, tractors, skid steers, etc....

The State Police are enforcing DOT and trailer laws more strictly these days, so, I suggest getting one of the Dump Trailer Tarp kits that bolts onto the front of the trailer, makes life easy when transporting loose loads, like mulch. I’ve been hauling lots of trailers for years with a 1500 GMC and all I did was put a set of air bags to help take the sag and roll out of the few times you haul loads really suited for a 2500 or 3500 series. For $500 bucks I found it made it so much safer and still got the nice ride when you’re not hauling anything.

    Just had a thought. Ms M line that trailer with a tarp, fill it with water and you have a mobile swimming pool. What a guy! Mike did it! Finally she gets her pool just in time for cold weather. But wait! Back it into the garage and it’s an indoor pool.

    That is a super nice trailer. The guy i used to work for had a much larger one for hauling grain. But we used it for landscaping. My point being you can quickly load more washed gravel and especially pea gravel than it will dump. That happened to us. But great purchase and perfect for mulch and firewood.

    Mike, that is one sweet trailer! You’re going to love the versatility of that piece of equipment. When I bought my dump trailer for my business, I used Smouse trailers and snow equipment in Mt. Pleasant, Pa. pretty good people there. The model is a Bri Mar 6x10 with about an 8100# payload for just under $6k. It has the landscape gate so it can free material from the bottom of the gate like a dump truck, I can put it down and drive my mowers, side by side etc right on it or I can just simply remove the gate all together. Glad to see you made the investment. You’re going to love it!

    Nice addition to the fleet! A little wisdom to pass along to ya Mike, when you swing the gates open be sure to verify the pins FULLY engage into the catch. If they don’t drop all the way the gate could sneakily swing back and get shoved into the ground while dumping and if you don’t catch it you could tweak the heck outa the door...I recently got me a new dump trailer and made this oversight on my 4th dump (so mad at myself)

  • @philipirwin5286
    @philipirwin5286 Před 5 lety

    I store mine on the safety stand so nothing collects in there. Also don't forget to keep that thing charged (maybe a solar charger), with having power down if you are out of power, you will have to release all the hydraulic fluid in the tool box to get it to come down without power. The Aluminum ramps are a nice touch, with 12' though you are likely looking at the bucket over the front edge and maybe a real short rear implement on Sherman.

    I see it every day. These guys with all the fancy dump trailers, and they get it half way up and the battery is dead. Not 1 person can understand, their pickup has a battery charger on it. You have a 12v supply right there, at the plug. T-off, hook up the ground, and the battery charges, as long as the truck is running. Looks like an awesome trailer. Should serve you well.

    Congratulations Mike Morgan on your new equipment purchase! I'm sure that your new dump trailer will see a lot of use on your property AND your business. Sometime, I would like to see a side by side comparison to your older RK dump trailer. I think it's not a bad idea to have both for what you are doing on the property especially if one is smaller and easier to maneuver back in the woods with your tractor.

    I love my dump trailer I have had it for about 20 years and its still going strong. It is a 8x12 work horse trailer and I do haul my New Holland TC 33D in it a lot. I have hauled a very large skid steer in it but it was. too much for it. I have also hauled a bunch of fire wood in which is the reason I bought it. The only issue I had with mine is which my half ton Chevy truck it would not keep the battery charged while using it a lot. I now have a Dodge with a cummins and it has a larger alternator and I do not have that problem any more. Also the half ton would squat with a trailer full of wood on it so I added 1 spring to the leaf spring pack. Whit the Dodge I have now I just put air bags on it so I can Haul a larger RV but it works great to pump up the air bags with the on board air compressor to get a better ride from the truck. Just what I found out over the years. I can haul about 8,800 pounds with my 12,000 dump trailer. Its not too much work for the Dodge but it was for the half ton.
