Today on all about trailers we are launching a 2 part series on dump trailer.
We want to find out which dump trailer hoist system is the best.
Check out all of our videos here:
    / @allabouttrailers
    SCISSOR LIFT DUMP TRAILER -
This type of hoist system uses two arms to apply a hard initial push. The first six inches are the hardest part of the lift for any dump trailer. As the angle of the dump bed increases, force is traded for speed to give a slightly faster dump cycle as compared to the other two systems.
These are built beefier to brace the scissor lift but when you overload this trailer with a lot of weight in the center or front it will struggle because the load is being pushed from the center.
    DUAL RAM DUMP TRAILER -
this system is tried and true. People have been using this setup before I was born. These are overpowered. Unlike the Scissor lift, this dump trailer doesn’t sacrifice speed for it’s power. The Dual Ram Dump Trailers have a reinforced frame to handle the power of the two cylinders. As a result you have a system that is a lot stronger than the scissor lift. If you don’t even out your loads there is no worry with this system because it has the lifting force in the center and can handle the weight no matter where the brute force of the load is because of the dual rams pushing.
TELESCOPIC (FRONT END) DUMP TRAILER -
These are the newest technology in our trailer line. This has been a very reliable model on Semi Trailers and we have ported it over to our gooseneck and bumper pull lines. Because it lifts from the front end of the trailer, this type of hoist has the best lifting power in the long run over the weight of the load. The trailer’s hydraulic system and the cylinder itself have less strain on it than the rest of our dump lines.
Not to mention because of the footprint of this system and the amount of bracing and strength that have to be put in for the other systems you come out with a trailer that is about 1000 pounds lighter than the others.
This is by far the best design and function you can get in a dump trailer. When you overload this or have an uneven load something else on this trailer will break before this telescopic hoist will.

The scissor is better if you dump on un level ground very much. Less torsion on the cylinder. It has a bigger footprint or contact surface on the main frame and the dump box. The scissor takes the twist or torsion not the cylinder.

I have driven dump trucks and semi truck with end dump trailer- both can be very sketchy dumping on uneven ground. That is why I chose to go with the dual cylinders- stability/ safety. The trailer I bought, which is a Texas Pride trailer, gooseneck, triple 7K axles, charges the batteries when plugged into the truck and, an extension cord can plug into the trailer to operate an onboard trickle charger. For those asking how to get one - go online to Texas Pride Trailers, request information and someone got back to me within a couple hours. I placed my order and received the trailer in four weeks!

Just know this, every trailer is going to need a paint job as soon as you buy it. I've had them all from flat bed, dump, enclosed, utility and landscape, from big tex, snapper trailers ( the worst) trailers 4less, gator every trailer has a cheap light coat paint job just to get it sold. And none of them will stand behind the warranty even if you buy trailers in high volume, the dealer will blame the builder and the builder will blame the dealer.

The worst part I see about the dump trailers with the telescopic cylinders, is that the top of the cylinder barrel sticks up above the top rim of the trailer box (on normal wall height trailers) so when you put your tractor in the trailer, with loader and 3-point hitch attachment on the back, sometimes you need to put the bucket up on the headboard to fit in the trailer and the damn cylinder is in the way !

I have never seen a 17' foot dump trailer, so the only size trailer that set up will fit in is an 18' or bigger. Most guy's trucks will not comfortably tow an 18' trailer (nor would they want one that big) so I guess it's not as easy as just "buy a longer trailer"

i rented one of each to haul over a 100 tons of gravel for my drive way and back yard for two car ports, after getting all three due to the volume the rental place had,i got one of each by accident, the dual ram is the shit,if you have to dump in a total non flat surface the dual ram is superior,it does not stress the bed pivots in the back, the other two strain the bed pivots every damn time, they were not my equipment, but when you rent one every weekend to do the haul, you still don' t want them to break, especially when its not yours, for us the dual ram is superior
