  • Birthdays are usually a time for celebration and joy, marking personal milestones with fun and festivity. But what happens when your plans are derailed by circumstances beyond your control? A Redditor is facing a tough choice for her upcoming birthday. She wants to celebrate at a restaurant she enjoys, but her siblings' severe food allergies limit where the family can go. Faced with pressure to change her plans to include her sister, she decides to cancel the celebration altogether. Is she in the wrong for wanting a day that caters to her preferences, or is her family asking too much?

Regardless of allergies and all that: It's not your sisters birthday. Who cares that she wants to come? She's not entitled to be invited. How ridiculous

I am someone that has a severe food allergy so when I say my opinion you know it's coming from someone like the siblings. No nta it was agreed to have an putting with friends at a restaurant that wasn't on the safe list and then at the last min it was forced to have the little sister there.. the parents are the ahs bc they went back on the plan and wouldn't hear bout not letting the little sister go and the little sister is kind of in the wrong bc knows that can't go to the place that was planned to go but wanted to go anyway and wouldn't stop bout going. But yea op nta at all it was ops bday let op have the bday that they want without having to change established plans

Honestly i wouldn't be surprised if op's sister is also bored of everything and how their parents are and wants to try these things even tho she knows it'll probably hurt her.

@Error_-ne6tm yes but this is not "the hill to die on" if it would be a different day then fine but this is for the oldests bday let her have a day to herself with just her and her friends and then while there can see what can be safe or not for lil sis and then go another time

As a person also with a heavy list of food allergies; it is my responsibility. I HATE when my issues affect others. It’s the sister’s allergies, it sucks yes, but the girl without them has had to live her life as if she did; she is not an AH for wanting to be free. It’s not her problem. Let her live her life. Shouldn’t put one child through hell for the others. And food allergies can be hell.

Many of us have had to cancel or change plans due to family obligations at some point. Is our Redditor in the wrong for canceling her birthday dinner, even though her reasons are understandable? What about the inclusion of her sister? Should her sister should've stayed home?
