The street was named in 1897 after the district and the former suburb of Mariahilf . It was originally called Kremser Straße after its destinations , then Bavarian Landstraße , later (e.g. city map 1856) after the places it crossed, Laimgrubner Hauptstraße (section 6., Zweierlinie -7., Stiftgasse) and Mariahilfer Hauptstraße (section 7., Stiftgasse- 6., Stumpergasse / Mariahilfer Line ). In the 15th district it was called Fünfhauser Hauptstraße , Schönbrunner Straße and Penzinger Straße . The street is also popularly called Mahü . It was an important exit road to the west, which is why many inns were located here. [1]

The Mariahilfer Straße , the Mariahilfer Belt , the Mariahilfer Church and the Mariahilf district take their names from the miraculous image of Mariahilf , a copy of the painting of the same name by Lucas Cranach the Elder , which is located in the Mariahilfer Church.

Thank you! I wish you success in learning German. It is very interesting that there is hochdeutsch, which everybody should understand but on the other hand there are many Dialects, even in Austria. People mostly speak dialects here.
