Preach it. While historic accuracy in costuming has a place in the filming industry, it's nice as viewer to see just the sheer creativity. If the tone is consistent and it fits with the overall story, why shouldn't they?

I just hope we get a dark skinned Black woman leading the next season. The only Black women are old women obsessed with the love lives of the younger ones 😭 Shonda did us so dirty while promising representation

    A Knight’s Tale 2001 is a movie I love revisiting for anachronisms

I don’t even watch bridgerton but I was so angry to see all the historical costume youtubers tear the costumes apart because of “accuracy”. It’s a tv show! It’s not real anyway, why not have fun with it? It looks cool, that’s all it matters

I love your analysis on bridgertons design and aesthetic. I always got this feeling that the show almost feels and reads like a fanfiction, so these inaccuracies make it feel more fantastical and it grounds the story. Its aware of itself and to me i feel it makes the viewers take it more seriously because the show doesnt take itself too seriously

huh i never thought of the incredibles like that. like i knew it had the 50s set up but the juxtaposition with the tech really does give it a unique vibe.

Honestly I love certain eras doing other eras. There's a certain je ne sais quoi to a 70s western, 60s science fiction, etc. I feel like stuff afterwards always ends up picking up a little bit of the era they were popular as part of the genre.

I totally understand what you mean with little women feeling like a sleep over! that's exactly my feeling with the film as well and I love it 😊

Bridgerton being a historical (kinda trashy) romance fiction novel... I’ve never minded the costumes being so extra and the music even being modern day music instrumental covers (I REALLY liked that touch for some reason... idk maybe it’s a bit fanfic-ie of me? lol), so I feel like if you’re gonna go full on historical fiction then that’s more than justified and I’m here for what it brings.
I had reservations on the casting for season one (I actually went in expecting a relatively blind cast) but I hope it can keep building like it is now. ☺️

Not a movie but Hulu’s ‘the great’ does historical anachronism and costuming amazingly!

Very interesting, definitely makes me think more about designing for aesthetic over accuracy in production design

Guy Ritchie's sherlock holmes largely uses clothing that's appropriate for the period but has characters wear it in a way that is anachronistic. Holmes' sunglasses were technically a thing that existed, the Victorians prescribed tinted lenses for medical reasons, but wouldn't have been worn for style points.
