Something I noticed is that quite a few of Jobu's outfits have either a single tear painted on, or have red around her eyes or otherwise make it look a bit like she's crying. I can't help but feel something about the fact that that even through her fun and zany outfits a little of her depression and sadness and loneliness seeps through
Yes! I loved the tear detail in her makeup and I didn't even put together the use of red but you're right
@@chai_tii Somebody pointed out that Jobu's half circle under 1 eye (in the patchwork outfit) is suggestive of Malcolm McDowell in "A Clockwork Orange" with the one fake eyelash.
One thing me and my sibling noticed about Joy's outfits is that they all seemed to be referencing something over the top a child would aspire to to be. Pop stars, wrestling, singers etc. Thought that was cute :]
I loved your analysis! You made me aware of so many details that totally skipped over my head when I watched it. The main villain‘s outfits made me gasp and laugh internally at the same time :D I agree with you that the attention to (hilarious) detail really made this movie. I think it proves great filmmaking to achieve absolute ridiculousness while still taking the characters and their everyday struggles serious (i even cried a little at the end).
I loved this! You brought a lot of insight I didn’t see before! Side note, I know this movie’s already leading with 11 nominations at the Oscars, but the fact that it was ignored for Best Production Design was annoying! At least Shirley Kurata received a nomination for her costumes!
yessss I always love when you review set and fashion designs in movies :)
first of all, obsessed with your aesthetic...the soft purple looks absolutely stunning on you.
anyways, how on earth did you catch so many detail?? this film has been by hyperfixation for like a month or two now and yet didn't catch half of this. makes me so giddy to see someone else into this film thanky ou thank you
Literally one of the most thorough, specific, attentive video essays I've seen on this movie. U cover so many things no one else is talking about; so many little details even I didn't catch and I've seen the movie 4 times and practically every single video essay out there. Thanks, keep up the good work :)
Also the color palette of your headshots is so soft and cotton candy like. Very aesthetically pleasing.
oh my godddd the amount of detail you caught is amazing !! i have been holding off rewatching the movie to let it stew a little but if/when i do rewatch it i will definitely keep these in mind , the little details add so much to the entire film
i was hoping someone would do an essay/analysis like this! the set/costuming was so dope. loved listening to your perspective. gonna take a look at some of your other vids!
Omg yes! i've been waiting for someone to talk about the costume design in this, you nailed it! Also the way Jobu has her name written with her hair is just so good.
Love your analysis...it's a clever movie indeed.
I love your insights here! It's crazy how this film is just so detail rich, that even the most keen observer will miss something the first time. While I think it was just a happy accident, it didn't even occur to me that Yeoh and Curtis were in ketchup and mustard colors respectively. Great, hilarious catch. Now I wish I'd gotten to see the full four page script realized!
I love your vibe, research, and attention to detail. Let's get you more views!
I forgot to return to this video because you published it 3 days before I saw it in theaters with my little brother! We both cried and had an existential crisis, best night of my life!
i’ve been waiting for someone to review this movie, you did an amazing job at it thank you so much
wonderful video!
Love this review!!!
I have nvr been so early to a vid before🤣🤣 can't wait for a great vid!!
We better get an EEAAO sweep at the Oscars or I swear to god
11 NOMINATIONS! They recognized Shirley Kurata for her costumes!! I’m so surprised they recognized Stephanie Hsu, since she didn’t even get noticed by the Golden Globes, but she honestly deserves it!
i watched EEAAO 5 times in theaters, so excited to hear your thoughts 💖
I adore this movie and am keen to see your analysis of costume and set.
Really interesting analysis!
Wow ur so clever!
