    In case someone is dissuaded from playing Ninja due to the need to learn the Mudras, they are actually quite easy, you only need to remember the last Mudra used in the combo. For example, a two-mudra combo will always result in Katon if you end it with Ten. This means that Chi -> Ten and Jin -> Ten will both perform Katon. This way you only need to learn which Mudras use which ability if used last, so that's just 3 for two-part combos and another 3 for three-part combos, instead of having to learn every possibility :)

      Banging those pots is so much fun! I love that I can summon one of seven abilities just by calling out the right Mudras. Dropping two or three 650-pot Raitons on an enemy's head might not come with the visceral, satisfying sound of BLM's Foul or Xenoglossy, but my goodness, it's still a glory to take off that much of the foe's HP with every shot.

    I really miss playing ninja, still haven't done so in EW after getting it to 90, but their burst looks so cool and is so much fun. It's just that getting scouting gear and aiming accessories is annoying, when I've been focused on SAM and MNK lately. Hopefully they'll add another fun dps that shares scouting gear in 7.0 or smth.
    That being said, I'm happy to be enjoying melee jobs now, cuz other than NIN, I had only been focused on ranged and casters for DPS, up to 6.3, and melee just hits different once you've managed to master any given rotation, so I've been having a lot of fun trying them out.

      Yeah it has not helped ninja recently either that it had a brutal bug since 6.3 that just recently got fixed that made its mudras weirdly inconsistent for a lot of players 😅 but them not sharing gear is one of the most common complaints and I understand that! 😊

    I keep coming back to this video, as well as the ranged and caster ones too, and am really struggling with finding a DPS job from any category that I feel passionately about or feel "at home" in.
    I main SCH/AST/DRK and enjoy all these jobs very much. They feel natural and I enjoy the job fantasies very much and I feel comfortable and connected to the jobs.
    I have most the dps jobs around 70-85ish (with the exception of MNK/RDM/MCH which I have no interest in) in the name of trying to find my dps "main" and I always feel unfulfilled, or like something is "off" while playing dps. I like many elements of DRG, RPR, and SMN but never feel "settled" playing them. Like an imposter wearing a very obvious costume.
    Ive considered the possibility I might just be a die hard healer/tank main and find the dps role itself alienating? I love helping, I like feeling useful, I love the idea of being the person who keeps everyone up and strong - it's rewarding and feels good. Dps doesn't elicit the same feeling at all and I also don't really care for positionals.
    Anyway, I realize this is a very long winded comment on an older video, I just have watched the trio of them like 10 times each begging for something to kind of "dawn" on me to help me pick on to stick with and never happens.
    I hope Dawntrial brings a dps class I enjoy or the changes to DRG and pick that up.
    Thanks for your Videos by the way. You're by far my favourite ffxiv content creator. Unbelievably valuable resource for the community. :)

      There is nothing wrong with realizing that dps just isn't a role for you 😊
      I have heard others that really enjoy support roles more say that red mage and dancer especially tend to fit that slot. 😊 So if you haven't already, you could give them a chance, or another chance. You can also choose not to of course!
      Both of the jobs offer both offensive support, but particularly also offer flexible defensive support like healing, raising and more, which might make a tank / healer main feel more at home! 😁
      Thank you so much for the kind words! It really makes me happy that the videos I make are so appreciated! 🥰
      I hope you find the answer you seek in regards to dps jobs, but do remember that it is okay to simply not like playing dps jobs, so that is also an option! 😊

      you should maybe try one of those jobs you have no interest in but with an open mind. u might be surprised. has happened to me multiple times in this game. never thought i ever wanted to play whm but one day i started opening my mind like “im not interested in whm… but what if?” and now i love it for its big beefy buttons lol. until then i was a NIN main, was bored if i wasnt allowed to press a lot of buttons. now theres been a domino effect causing me to grow towards simpler jobs. rpr, whm, war…
      i was never interested in mnk either. the aesthetic and fantasy just didnt intrigue me much. until i realized how much you can do with that fantasy thanks to its wide variety of weapon models, not to mention the emperors new fists. and irt gameplay itself one of the things i rly like about mnk is it’s party wide healing buff feels *great* to push after a raidwide or when i notice the healers struggling. its a very potent “im helping :)” feeling which you initiated deliberately. personally it gives me a sense of control and influence i dont feel with the other melee jobs. i will sometimes feel the urge to run mnk JUST to press manta lol.
      sometimes which jobs you enjoy can change just by slightly altering your perspective and sometimes you realize you dont know those jobs the way that you thought you did. thats how its been for me anyway. just something to think about…

It didn't happen often, but having that rabbit show up because the server didn't register my button presses correctly was a deep source of frustration every time it happened. @hennyzhi2261 Před rokem +29

    I personally love Monk the most because it's a fair challenge to learn, but rooted in fundamentals in a way I think only Dragoon matches. And when you master not only your onpener but the 2-2-3 ratio for the basic combos everything falls into place and you become extremely powerful. Then it's just a matter of working in ways to double weave in the things you apply and forget like Riddle of Fire/Wind, or time into raidwides to use Riddle of Earth + Mantra to reduce your damage and help the healers top everyone back up. I'm a bit weary about the Dragoon changes in the future, but if I'd ask for one thing is maybe one more charge of elusive jump so the job can be more flexible and give one new system that rewards mastering the basic combo. I remember listening in to Mr. Happy going over the jobs history and how Life of the Dragon used to be something you could sustain through a whole fight if you were good enough at the job. I'd really like to see that reincorporated because I think jobs like Monk nail the skill floor and skill ceiling well while still having just the right amount of room to be unique; a job can and should be both easy to start yet difficult to master (with a substantial reward for getting good at it). I enjoy the floor of Dragoon, but the ceiling could be more interesting or even last longer when your doing everything correctly (the animations for LotD and Stardiver however are amazing).

    • @CaetsuChaijiCh
      @CaetsuChaijiCh  Před rokem +7

      An extra charge on elusive jump does sound nice, and probably wouldn't hurt 😊 I always think I'd rather have an extra charge on jump! That would make the dragoon opener way more intuitive I believe, but would also make the job significantly easier to work with, whether it needs it or not 😅

      -Shadowbringer spoilers-
      I'm main drg since 5.4 and, really, trust me that you don't want to return the LotD timer. Most of the time, you don't even notice that is still there due you only have to keep doing your usual gcd (which you shouldn't have any trouble with that). The problem comes when there is a long downtime (even worse if has cutscene), your LotD will run out inevitably and, when the boss returns, you will be starting with another weak opener without eyes. There are some fights like Hades, WoL, Ruby, Emerald where that problem was present

    • @diegosalazar793
      @diegosalazar793 Před rokem +2

      What I mean with that is it was never difficult to maintain LotD, it will only run out if there is a situation out of your hands and that gave an unsatisfactory feeling to the player.
      A challenge optimization that I agreed was lost with 6.0 is the buff changes, now almost everytime you want to delay your LotD, but in 5.x and before, you had to think about delaying or not depending on when your buffs will come again, that open some interestings ways to optimize job resources and most fights had it's own ways.
      It's still really and more fun to play now with how busy it is at 2min, but I feel like it's a bit more braindead than before, I hope the rework will not be like smn tbh.

    • @hennyzhi2261
      @hennyzhi2261 Před rokem +2

      @@diegosalazar793 That's a good point about cutscenes and things outside of the players control ruining Lotd and I'm sure similar windows the devs expect players to keep track of. It makes me wonder if it'd be better if they would just freeze those types of timers for those scenarios and/or at least give a meditation like button to several jobs for those particular scenes where the player has control while the boss is untargetable to delay buffs from dropping (with obviously a limited time to do so and not being able to do anything else at the same time... rather than slide around in a Qui-gon Jinn sitting pose supposedly trying to keep your vibes from falling off).

Ninja is one of my favorites classes, and i love how involved i need to be for it to dish out proper damage... but monk just never felt right. It always felt clunky and unsatisfying to play, and the rotation is bleh. Even tried using the Road to 60-70-80 buff on alts over the years to force my way through it, and it was simply agonizing to play.

    • @CaetsuChaijiCh

      Monk is really difficult, especially because it's "clunkiness" stems from the fact that it's rotation just doesn't mesh well with a strict burst sequence, and so you have to freestyle it kind of. Plus Thunderclap is one of the best movement abilities, just behind En Avant and Shukuchi.
    When the timing of its 1-min or party buffs and Phantom Rush combo lines up just right... Perfection
    Few things I'd wish for Mnk is for Riddle of Wind to give a 1.5 gcd phase like Rpr / Mch, another ogcd like Forbidden Chakra, a new animation for buffed Bootshine like Drg's Raiden Thrust, maybe give 1st form positionals back for a bit more complexity and boom

      Bootshine getting an alternative animation, and maybe also Icon like Raiden Thrust might be helpful to make it easier to keep an overview of when you have Leaden Fist without eyeing the buff itself. Similarly, if True Strike changed into something else when you have Disciplined Fist from Twin Snakes, that could give a similar feel. I like that it can help the team with Mug and Trick Attack, but the Ninjutsu is my favorite element, even if I still summon bunnies once in a while. The key to Ninjutsu is knowing that only the last Mudra and the number of Mudras used matters. There are eventually seven; a shuriken attack for any one Mudra, then three different attacks using two Mudras, and three more that need all three Mudras. Ninja has been changed a bit over the years, but not that much! I think the big thing is their jutsus being moved from being abilities, to being (functionally) like "spells" and weaponskills. This means you used to have to weave them between attacks which just wasn't reliable 😅

    So monk is so technical that you have to consider frame rates? What happens if you don't? Party wipe?

    • @CaetsuChaijiCh
      @CaetsuChaijiCh  Před rokem +1

      Nah nothing so disastrous of course! It simply means you lose out on damage you could have done. As I mentioned in the video, it is only for when you are trying to optimize!
      The common example used is that when you issue an action to be used, the came will attempt to do it on the next frame that it is possible. So if you play on 60 FPS, then use something like Bootshine, and your Recast Timer is, say, 1.94. Then on frame 116 after you used the action will be 1.9333 meaning you can't use any weaponskills yet, but frame 117 will be 1.95, meaning that you completely missed that 0.01 second of opportunity between 1.94 and 1.95. If your recast timer is instead 1.93 or 1.95, you simply haven't wasted any Skillspeed on something you wouldn't be able to utilize anyway.
      I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but thats how min-maxing works of course, and over the course of a 10 minute fight, missing out on 0.01 seconds every 2 seconds or so adds up! For the case of the example, you'd lose out on about 2 weaponskills over such a long fight, which again sounds overkill. But we are talking about optimization ^^

    • @MinecraftMartin
      @MinecraftMartin Před rokem +1

      @@CaetsuChaijiCh Thanks for the explanation. I'm trying to understand why it seems like so many people are so focused on optimization, because right now it feels like it just sucks all the fun out of the game.
      I want to get into more challenging content, but if it requires this kind of optimization, it just doesn't sound fun. I wonder if it's the enrage timers that are forcing players to stress so much about burst windows and perfecting rotations.
      Story mode and hard modes are just so dang easy, and the next step is these savage & extreme instances that people obsess with optimization. Every conversation about a class or job ends up in optimization.
      I'm still going to try harder content here soon and hope I'm misunderstanding. Really love this game, but my lack of experience with savage+ and videos like this make it really difficult to understand how it could possibly be fun.
      But I know I'm wrong, because obviously many many people love this type of game activity. I just need to try it.
      Thanks for the video!

    • @CaetsuChaijiCh
      @CaetsuChaijiCh  Před rokem

      Aah I see! Alright in that case you should know that a large part of why savage raiders are so obsessed with optimization is because of DPS meters and logs and such (DPS meters are officially illegal according to the ToS so use at your own risk). People want to have the best parse on a log (meaning the highest DPS performance on a specific fight), and part of that both requires them to play perfectly, but also their team to play perfectly. In other words, its not because they HAVE to play perfectly to win, its because they want to win better than anyone else won ^^
      But your average group mostly cares about playing well enough to beat the boss, and this part about FPS optimization is simply a matter of how much skillspeed you want on your gear as a monk, and is a somewhat minor thing overall. Simply add one or a few extra skillspeed materia to your gear if you play on 60 FPS and find yourself on 1.94, and then that problem is solved! The monk community in particular I have also noticed are especially excessive in their optimization, which is why this FPS optimization is kind of funny!
      But genuinely, if you progress through the savage raid tier at a normal pace, you will get the gear necessary to beat the next boss' enrage timer without going completely overboard with optimization anyway!
      I have a video on this specific subject where I analyze the previous raid tier to demonstrate that you do not have to be a super mega optimizer to play. I have heard many people found it very reassuring and motivating!

      As DPS don't have those kinds of responsibilities, their rotations tend to be more complex as a starting point.
      Also, part of the confusion in starting a DPS at level 70 means that you will need to learn all of the aspects that are normally introduced gradually as you level up, all at once!
      I would recommend doing some lower level dungeons (for example) where the toolkit is a bit simpler to get you into how the job works, as the toolkit gradually grows as you do higher level content. 😊

    Fix the clunky Forbidden Chakra, let us hold more than 5 stacks...
    Tweak Anatman, make it like boost from ffxi, next ws does x amount of dmg depending how long you charge anatman.
    Tweak thunder clap, make it so you can use it outside of battle.
    Buff RoW, add a huton effect to the duration
    Give us a gcd range attack
    Change the color of the bootshine and twin snake buffs. They look to similar
    Also another ogcd aoe would be nice.
    And othet things lol. But I'll stfu.
    Great video btw😊

    I know it's better to "play what you want", but for a WoW heroic raider that dabbles in mythic raiding, which would be the easiest class to transition to?

    • @CaetsuChaijiCh
      @CaetsuChaijiCh  Před rokem +2

      All five melee jobs will of course play drastically differently to any WoW specialization, for example due to the combos and two different positional types.
      Reaper is by far the easiest to play among the five, and it's hardest feature is performing the double enshroud, which involves resource pooling. If you did mythic raiding that is probably very easy. Given that the reapers base combo is a much less significant part of its rotation, that is also milder for the transition. It only has positionals on two specific actions that you have some control over when you use.
      The fact that the job doesn't have that much ogcd weaving, it will put less of a demand on you to immediately master this aspect too, which is more pronounced in ff14 (in wow, things are either on the gcd or not. In ff14, even ogcds take up some sort of animation time so you can't stack things)
      Samurai is also a good choice if you want something with a much higher skill ceiling without being too overwhelming.
      If you don't have a level 50 or 70 job to access these yet, then I recommend starting with monk if you plan for samurai, or dragoon if you plan for reaper, as these jobs share armor in pairs.
      I hope this helps you choose!

    I only partially disagree with the stars for Entry Level on Reaper. Specially since it starts at level 70 and you have so many confusing skills to read and some seem to do the same until you carefully read every single one and play for a while. Ninja is easier at level 70 if you start from level 1 than Reaper at 70 for the first week or two.

    diffculty ranked from a top 1% omni melee player:
    ranked from easiest to hardest
    entry rpr-sam-monk-drg-nin
    mastery drg-nin-mnk-rpr-sam
    drg and nin both feel very clickly which is why they can be hard to get into, but once you get the hang of them they are very simple to play at a high level as they follow simple repeatable burst phases.
    sam and rpr are easier to understand on a fundamental level but once it comes to playing at a very high level they become the hardest melees to play by far. on samurai you eventually get to the point where you are no longer looping with hagakure as it is a dps loss and each rotation for each fight can look quite different due to phase timings, that combined with having to get in all of your third eyes, this is definitely the most mentally taxing melee to play at a high level. essentially mastery difficulty comes down to fight-by-fight optimizations and how much you have to think while playing a job on a certain fight. drg and nin are two jobs that I love to play during prog because I can do their rotation without thinking much at all.

    • @CaetsuChaijiCh
      @CaetsuChaijiCh  Před rokem

      Thank you for the perspective, Gavin! Of course, most of my difficulty rankings are based on what it takes to play a job at a basic level (entry), and being capable of following the recommended general openers and rotations (mastery), and naturally, there is a level even beyond that, which involves mastering a rotation for a specific encounter! Personally, I feel monk would be by far the hardest for this due to their optimal drift being tough, but I can see what you mean about optimizing samurai to the point of skipping hagakure, that requires a lot of expertise on the specific fight! Dragoon and ninja being strict in the way they are both leaves a lot less opportunity to optimize extra in this way I suppose! I do feel personally though that reaper is very approachable, even at a high level! But I am willing to admit that that is more rooted in the fact that I play reaper significantly more than the other melees, and that it is a subjective thing 😊
      Again thank you for sharing the super high level perspective, Gavin! That allows me to better teach on these jobs as well! 😄

      The damage rankings are partly based on how the jobs were ranked at the time of the video being made.
      While monk often is the highest ranked in rDPS, that is because of the combination of its own damage *and* the damage provided to the raid by brotherhood, this is why I gave the job the combination of stars for raid support and personal damage. The stars are also relative to the melee dps specifically.
      Samurai is the melee dps with the highest *personal* damage, and that *is* common knowledge 😊

      @CaetsuChaijiCh  Před 11 měsíci +3

      I just checked fflogs. Monk wins over samurai in rDPS, which attributes raid buff damage provided by you to your team, to you. This means jobs with raid buffs get credit for the damage they gave their team mate.
      In all other categories more focused on personal damage, samurai beats monk 😊
      But regardless, the damage rankings of this video is based on the situation back when the video was made, and as you said the difference is very small, which also means that even the difference between 0 raid support 0 personal damage stars, and 5 stars of each, would be very small.
      And also as you said, it is just one person's opinion against another so it's fine! 😊
      And also thank you, and I do appreciate your input of course!
