Mitsubishi FTO 6A12 Cambelt, Water Pump & Half Moon Seal Guide

  • I braved the fun task of replacing the cambelt and half moon seals on the FTO. At the same time, I changed the water pump and replaced all rubber coolant hoses with silicone ones.
    Sorry for the lack of demonstration and for the segment of bad audio halfway through.
    These are my best tips for completing the job with the FTO manual at hand - I recommend you use it like I did because there are some challenging parts to the job.
    For my tensioner holder tool you need something like this cheap bit handle, and a vice to bend it in :

    Hey Pamo, I wanted to ask a question. Did you have to buy new bolts in order to put the engine part with the camshafts back in? I'm worried as I may have to buy new bolts in order to put the camshaft engine part back in and I know that for engine head bolts are not reusable and was wondering if the camshaft engine bolts are reusable

    What service items do you recommend changing at 100,000 km? I’m thinking Half Moon seals 2. Cambelt + tensioner + water pump 3. Coolant 4 . Spark plugs I will also adjust the valve lash .what else should I change and are there any other places the engine leaks or weeps oil from ?

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  Před 10 měsíci

      At that mileage I'd do all the above, but only seals if you have leaks. The top half of the heads can leak bit it's not too common. They are sealed to the lower portion of the head with rtv.

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  Před 5 lety

      If you're swapping in another 6a12, it's no harder than any other engine. The wiring is a little frustrating due to the type of fasteners and the lump is surprisingly heavy. Apart from that it's just the usual stuff. Good luck👍

    Hello. Quick question, when installing the timing belt the crankshaft mark should line up to TDC 0°?

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, but it's a little more complicated than usual because you set all the timing marks then have to rotate the crank 1 tooth anticlockwise. Then proceed with belt installation working from the rear bank forwards. Have you got a manual?

    • @missionpossible-001
      @missionpossible-001 Před 3 lety +1

      @@ManSeeksCivic Thanks for the fast reply. I do have a downloaded manual. On the old belt the crank lined up to TDC but all the cams were forward 1 tooth. I thought this was wrong as the manual says to have crank and cam marks all aligned. Installing the new belt I lined up the cams and turned the crank anticlockwise slightly to align all marks perfectly. Now all the cams line up and the crank is at TDC 0°. Is that wrong?. Should it be say 10° BTDC?.

    • @ManSeeksCivic
      @ManSeeksCivic  Před 3 lety +1

      If the marks line up correctly after turning the engine over by hand a few times with everything installed then you are right. The timing marks are your datum.
