- Join us on another episode of Expedition Virtual Theme Park.
This time we look at one of the not just worst Theme Park video games but worst GameCube games with Universal Studios Theme Park Adventure. This game inspired from Adventures In The Magic Kingdom would let players walk around Universal Studios Japan while taking part in different mini games. Luckily it was remade into a much better version.

DO SIXFLAGS FUNPARK!
"You need to watch more movies." You need to go to the trash can, Woody.
Ahh
That quote is ironically an inside joke with me and my friend
Ha ha ha haaaaaaa
That's funny. LoL You need to watch more movies
That would drive me crazy
"The whole experience can be completed in less than 5 hours." The current WR for the game is just short of 45 minutes.
I was being generous :P
As a kid though, I would have found it extremely cool to free roam around the park to be fair.
The best part is walking around the parks.
“You spend most of the time falling off the bike” 😂😂😂
Poor ET 😭😆
That’s hilarious but don’t make it happend in real life.
Why of all Characters woody woodpecker as the guide? This isn't Brazil.
Oh poor poor woody
P i c a P a u
Well it might have been the Japanese’s decision since this is universal Japan
Hey, Woody the Pecker of Wood is cool!
Pica Pau 😂 i remember watching that as a kid in Brazil on TV every morning on holiday
Those segments in which you showed yourself repeated pushing the A button - you looked completely different than from what I imagined 😂 don’t think I’ve ever seen a face reveal on this channel before lol
Hahah if you look hard you can find me now and then 😄
Agreed. The glasses I expected but somehow I expected you to be a skinny little dude. Not to stay you're heavy or anything, just definitely different than I imagined :)
I feel like with virtual reality technology improving this kind of concept needs to be revisited. And I love the idea of games like this, just a shame they all mostly suck.
Yeah!
I think this was the original plan for Defunctland IIRC, to recreate VR versions of extinct attractions.
5:27 I've never heard anyone say Melee that way.
I'm weord
@@ExpeditionThemePark Lol
I feel like Disney is really missing the boat on virtual theme park games.
Play the Disneyland Xbox one game. It was orginally made for the Kinect but they updated it to work with normal controllers and I love it. Very detailed and alot to unlock and do.
Definitely agree with you on that and we’re also missing is the rides we definitely need some rides in a Disney theme park not entirely of mini games.
@@pauleckert4321 There was actualy a Disneysea game. Which seems to be more of an adventure game, using Disneysea's themeing as a backdrop, than a park simulator
@@pauleckert4321 I'm grateful for your post. I bought that game and gave up because I don't have enough room for the Kinect to really register someone in front of it. Had no idea they updated it to work with controllers. Thanks.
There's a mobile game called Disney Magic Kingdoms, where you build your own Disney parks.
I'd like to see a Disney Imagineering game that didn't seem to have an awful lot of coverage: From 2001 - Ultimate Ride. A great little build-your-own coaster simulator.
Sum of All Thrills.
That remake is absolutely fascinating! I didn't know about it when we did some research for our video on this game.
I'm slightly blinded by nostalgia for it, so I gotta try out this sequel now.
Oh, sweet! This looks interesting and cool! (hears Woody Woodpecker’s demonic game voice within the first minute) KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!!!!
Hahaha
That game is really fun to scream at. I still have it in complete in box.
Me too!
@Harry Brown What makes you think that will contain it's evil?
0:45 That dino looks possessed. Ah yes, falling off your bike. The alternate ending of ET. It’s not retro but I hope you talk about Six Flags Fun Park. It’s on the Wii and DS
Will take a look!
12:38 - I'm dyin here. That look. That's all of us playing every game that ever required your fingers to go numb.
Great video I laughed so much at the falling off the bike on ET 🤣
Your inner AVGN is showing, Expedition.
Pfft, he didn't swear nearly enough.
THIS IS IT! THE DAY HAS COME GAMERS!
I know you have been waiting for this! Ha
The History of It's Though to be a Bug at Disney's Animal Kingdom and Disney California Adventure.
Good idea!
Might be a bit short
The most interesting part of this for me is how much USJ has changed since this game! Most the areas are still recognised as the same but so many different attractions
Just wanna mention it again: You play as a CHILD that SHOOTS dinosaurs, gets almoust eaten by a shark, underaged drives the dolorian and rescues people in a BURNING building.
Cool. Absolutely child friendly.
Gotta love how they didn't even _try_ to draw inspiration from the rides. I mean, jeez - _everyone_ knows that the Jurassic Park/World rides are water based (I for one, even as a kid, was baffled by this since the movies have the iconic jeep, but whatever). So of course they decided to ignore that entirely and make a mini-game with the jeep :P You had ONE job, Kemco.
This was awesome - I'm 100% onboard you looking at theme park based video games every so often. This is the first I've heard about the Japanese PS2 remake, and wouldn't you know it? I got a JP region PS2 just a few months ago and am currently, slowly, building up a collection. I think I'm gonna hit up eBay for a copy of that one now that I know _it exists._ Thanks for showing that off! :D
If you have to look at any more JP imports (I know there's a Mickey Mouse Tokyo Disneyland game for the SNES/Super Famicom for instance, but I'm not sure it qualifies as a "theme park video game"), you should give some translation apps a shot. I can't imagine any theme park video games having a ton of text, and while they're certainly not perfect, I've gone through a number of decently "wordy" games recently using Google Translate Camera to get my bearings and piece together the story/characters. Might prove useful for you in the future, ETP ;)
great suggestion! With this one i actually ran out of time
Holy crap, I remember playing this.
Hearing Woody at the start brought back memories
So it's basically a game where you have free admission into a theme park by being a janitor then buying a hat as a front of the line pass. Don't give these companies any ideas
This April Fools Day we need an Expedition episode on the highly praised and revolutionary dark ride, “ Mr. Bones Wild Ride”.
This game had a lot of potential, but it feels like a PS1 game with slightly better textures.
It is haha
The way you said the worst gamecube games does say something.
Yesss
This episode was awesome! Keep the virtual ones coming :)
Thank you!
That Oswald at the puzzle part in 7:00 lol Its funny that he appears more in a Universal game that used him ZERO when he was their property than Disneyland Kinect Adventures when Disney got it back lol
10:18 Yeah... I don’t trust that fella.
Me neither!
I liked it. The BTTF mini game was the closest I’ll ever get to the ride. They should remake this with the new rides. Also can you talk about Disney’s magical racing tour?
It had its moment but not worth full price. It's only my lost for the future!
Oh my God I've completely forgotten about that game
Yes I loved Disney's Magical Racing! I never played Mario Kart before it, so never realised it was a rip off! 😂
And some of the old rides as well. In fact, if a remake, built from the ground-up, ever gets off the ground, I have some ideas in mind for _King Kong_ and _Ghostbusters._
"Some of the games were clunky" I can tell you from the hours i put into that magic kingdom game as a kid, all of them were clunky. Disney Adventures in the Magic Kingdom is just not a good game.
i was being kind ha
OG KH before KH?
“You need to watch more movies!!”
I say no.
"You need to watch more movies!"
Me: "You need to make a better game"
I'm more mixed by the fact that Winniy asks the player a question about Patch Adams, a movie that has an infamous reputation for being non-accurate nor true to the real story of the real doctor
I love hearing the end title songs on this series. Brings back so many memories!
I got so triggered when I heard "You need to watch more movies" because I never did well on that quiz back in the day
I remember playing this game during High School when it first came out.
Can't' recall if I had purchased it, or rented it.
But remember I had to use the Turbo on my controller to beat the Jurassic Park level.
I think I mostly wanted to play it for the BTTF stuff.
23:32 my dude buff as hecc
Never before had a game made me hate woody woodpecker even more
Poor woody haha
I failed the quiz 1 time on the question: How many acres is Universal Studios Japan? And then it said you need to watch more movies. Like bruh
Ok how weird is a car doing a stunt on a top of a dinosaur.
Loved the video, you should do one on the super bizarre “Six Flags Fun Park” for the Nintendo Wii
Yet again another thoroughly enjoyed video! A nice surprise today :) the unimpressed face really made it!
Haha thank you. I was debating leaving that in or not
Expedition Theme Park great choice! Had me laughing 😂
This game made me cry when I was like six because I wanted it so bad because I could relive universal studios but I could not figure out how to get on more than one ride before the "line was too long."
I have never been more upset in a game as a kid.
"fixed camera"
This is supposed to be Thrillville! Not Silent Hill!
Happy 4th of July, Expedition Theme Park!🇺🇸🎆🎇
Happy 4th of July!
That remake looks awesome! Exploring the park with a controllable camera looks like a lot of fun
This was my favorite game on GameCube! Awesome video, I still play Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 and other theme park games so this is an awesome epedition series. Some of the mini-games were nightmare fuel.😂
Woody woodpecker's video game voice sounds like a freakin minion
You should do a video on kinect disneyland adventures
I will
The intro is now legendary! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Happy fourth of July and great video
Happy 4th
I remember playing this game as a kid and it was such a fever dream. I think I eventually got fed up with Woodie and his obscure movie trivia and eventually just gave up because I do not remember seeing some of those minigames or ever wanting to play that thing to completion.
So cute what you did with the intro. ^_^
Great video!!! I love this channel! I would love it if you could do a video on Epic Mickey!!!
It's not really a game, but a program in the 90's called Walt Disney World Explorer. Long before the internet it was so much fun for me as a kid exploring the theme park. Hopefully the update and bring it back.
A very rare appearence by Oswald the Lucky Rabbit before he went back to Disney 7:00
Your channel intro is dope!
Hahah great video mate; I like this new series combining my love of theme parks and video games. Are you going to do Kinect Disneyland?! I recently bought a Kinect just to try it and, well, it was pretty disappointing....!
I remember when Disneyland was advertising the Kinect as this brand new innovation in technology, and had demos of Kinect Animals. We bought a Kinect and every game for it at the time, including the Disneyland one. My friend and I could barely move forward, spent more time trying to get the sensor to register anything other than out arms, and spent our entire time playing it in the same spot just staring at the castle in the back. Hearing you talk about it will definitely be fun.
Thanks so much for this amazing video, I learned so many things about the Universal Studios videogame. I know everyone speaks so bad about this game, but as a theme park enthusiast I love it. I would play it on my Nintendo GameCube every time I would miss Universal. I didn’t know there was an updated version for PS 2, I wish it would have been released in the US! Can’t wait to see the video about Disneyland Adventures for Xbox, which been playing a lot during the pandemic every time I would miss Disney parks. Btw, talking about videogames based on theme parks there is a great one called Disney Magic Kingdoms for Apple and Android :)
Super Smash Brothers "m-e-lee" 😂😂😂 @5:25
Still campaigning for Nuka World from Fallout 4! Also I don't know if you can find it, but when I was a kid I had a Rollercoaster Tycoon like game that had you build your own Sea World parks.
Hmmm not sure what one that is!
@@ExpeditionThemePark the Nuka World one? Its from the game Fallout 4 and its makes fun of Disney World with a 1950's spin. I'm not sure what the Sea world game was called. I just remembered only playing it about 2 times, then going back to Rollercoaster Tycoon because I had tons more fun with it.
Seaworld Adventure Tycoon? I loved that as a kid. It was definitely different from RCT, but I thought it was just as good!
19:15 - Hey, I got to see some fireworks today after all! ✨🎆😋👍🎇🎉
According to my thoughts when I heard about this game and watched footage from it, the player characters should have been based on adults because of most of the attractions that are based on Universal films that are not suitable for younger children, that is what the developer should have done. Furthermore, the developer should have called this game Universal Studios Japan Adventure because since it is titled Universal Studios Theme Parks Adventure, it might confuse American gamers with the two American Universal parks.
In Peanutbuttergamer’s video titled“ Top 10 WORST GameCube games” This game was featured in his list. I can see why loads of hate has been stuffed into this game.
Yes ha
I mean, of course there needs to be a fireman in every section. Do you want a repeat of Kongfrontation to happen?
Really appreciate the video, I’ve now gone and purchased the PS2 game online as my PS2 is region free. Look forward to giving it a go as I own the dire GameCube game.
I guess walking around collecting trash would be better than standing in virtual lines for an hour
My little brother rented this game from Blockbuster back in 2001 without having absolutely no idea what it was about. We just bought the GameCube and wanted something new to play. Biggest mistake we made. It was probably one of the worst video games we ever played! 😝
7:00 was this back before Universal traded Oswald to Disney for a sportscaster?
It sucks that games like this are bad because the idea of a video game replica of a park that's not accessible to everyone is good.
Not to mention the inherit value of having a virtual replica of the park for preservation of sorts as a time capsule.
I love the intro song for this.
Never change the song, its you.
I remember playing this game back when I was a kid, think i still have it actually. I remember having fun with it... for about 2 hours then I beat the game
This is straight out of hell, looks like Disney started this crap to harm Universal. xD
Loving the retro intro music 👌
That first Roller Coaster game shown brought back so many memories! Loved that game!
“You need to watch more movies” is one thing that’s true about me.
Was only 30 seconds in when I said "I want to kill that bird"
"Hey, Winona get a new brain, 'cause yours ain't working!"
This looks like a poor mans cross between Alone in the Dark/Resident Evil and Theme Park/Rollercoaster Tycoon.
Also, I'm quite surprised Yoshikawa from Animation Celebration never showed up. He was my favorite character in Universal Japan! Too bad they killed him off once they got rid of Animation Celebration.
For some reason I remember playing a game very similar to the Jurrasic Park game on a cabinet in the basement of a beach rental when I was very young, did it ever have a release outside of this?
I remember the intro to this game showing all of the different rides had a bunch of flames pop up, and I thought, "Wow, they're bringing up how most of the backlot burnt down? That's fucked up." before realizing it was a reference to backdraft.
There was a Six Flags game in like 2007 or something. It would be nice to do one on that.
What's the name of the song at around the five minute mark? I swear I've heard it from somewhere, but I can't recall.
I had this game as a kid. It was Horrendous… however I gotta wonder, What would a Halloween Horror Nights version be like? I honestly think that would be kinda rad. Like maybe have Woody Woodpecker be replaced by Icons like Jack The Clown, The Director or the Caretaker, and give it some survival horror elements. Maybe theme minigames around Haunt Mazes, either original concepts, The Icons and or based on Iconic horror movies like Chucky, The Universal monsters or Killer Klowns from outer space… hell it was produced by Konami so there’d have to be a Silent Hill themed minigame. I mean hell, a lot of game cube games like Animal Crossing and Pokémon Channel did incorporate the game Cube’s built in clock and calendar for certain features and even event, same with the Wii, so if the devs wanted to be cute they could’ve programmed it to switch to Halloween Horror Nights if you decided to play the game in October, although that could’ve effected the game’s Rating… Idk just thinking out loud… in text
You should review Walt Disney: World Quest: Magical Racing Tour for Playstation! One of my favorite games as a kid
Theres a Six Flags game for the Wii. I've only played the smallest amount of it because I had to make sure it worked as we bought it used for my brother. It would fit in this expedition too.
Will check it out!
It's called Six Flags Fun Park and from Ubisoft. Has a copyright year of 2009
Kinda surreal that Woody Woodpecker in this game was voiced by Eric Kelso, who also did the voice for JACKY BRYANT beginning in Virtua Fighter 3. I love both characters but I think WWP: Escape from Buzz Buzzard Park would've been better if it was ported to the Gamecube.
He also voiced Biff Tannen in the game, too.
I used to love roller coaster tycoon you should do a video on that game ! :)
I will
Efteling Tycoon was basically the biggest scam in dutch themepark history.
You should check out Universal Studios Roblox! By far the best and most fun digital 3D theme park on the internet! Not to mention the other countless Roblox theme parks! Many are great including Magic Kingdom Theme Park and Disneyland Wales. I would check them out as they are loads of fun to just walk around and to of course ride rides and even watch shows! Thanks again for another great video and keep up the great work!
I'm so glad this isn't the fever dream I thought it was.
I owned the Magic Kingdom Adventures game (and Disneyland Kinect) but this is the first time I've heard of this one. I'd kinda lowkey love to see a rerelease of something like this on modern systems now.
0:23 giving me a pavlovian response looking for the serial killer about to end me
Sounds like you need to watch more movies.
This Is such an interesting concept for a game, I haven't seen much like these. I played the Disney NES game TONS as a kid, they also used to have this point & click adventure game based on the Efteling, where you helped the park mascot, Pardoes, find some gems and bring them back to the castle's observatory (the same one they included in the ride years later) by solving puzzles/minigames scattered around the park. They also had an Efteling Tycoon game which was a horrendous attempt at a park sim. I don't know ay other videogames based on actual theme parks, but Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 had maps based on old Six Flags parks, can confirm the Dutch and Belgian ones were really accurate despite their limitations.
12:38
I am either really new to the channel or this is really the first time you did a face reveal! 😆
This intro is everything!!! 🥰
And then 21 years later, we'd get a good version of this via Minecraft of all things
