  • An original musical number featuring 19 (why 19?) young actors singing and dancing in anticipation of winning an Oscar of their very own. Update: this was the last time any of those people were on that stage.

Too bad none of them became "future Oscar winners" as Lucille Ball called them. The only young nominee was in the audience watching this. River Phoenix for Running on Empty.

I think it's funny that most of them had TV careers.

Also if we spoke for the audience watching, future multiple Oscar nominees Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Cruise were there.

Not all actors were doing going great on television in the late 1980s and early 1990s but they were also took their foray into
television filmmaking as producers, directors and
      consultants since 2000.
      Which was very successful and
      profitable for audiences around
      the world.

The Emmy Award nominated "Girlfriends" on the CW has ran for eight successful seasons from
2000 to 2008. On every important episode, it was dedicated to the memory of Carrie Hamilton, who died of
      lung cancer in 2003.

Ricki Lake got mentioned in "Pretty Fly for a White Guy" - the fourth track from the American
rock band, The Offspring for Sony Music Entertainment under the leadership of
Lorraine Heindorf in November 9, 1998. Now that's even better than
      the 1989 Oscars!!!

Their careers were pretty jinxed but within nine years later in the 1997-1998 year, 20 artists were now finally focused on the television side as filmmakers
      for directing some of television’s
most popular programs: The Young and the Restless, The Bold
and the Beautiful, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital and
      more.
