I have a few questions with which I hope you can assist me. :) I am ready to order some various herbs in order to make some tinctures, but I am unclear on a few things. If Turmeric Root is called for in a recipe, can the Turmeric Root Powder be used instead? ... can "powder" be used as a substitute for the "cut root pieces" in any recipe? If yes, what ratio of powder would I figure if substituting for the cut root pieces? What about storage of "powder" over "root pieces"? Will the powder properties deteriorate quicker? ... and should that be a concern if I plan to store up the "powder" for future use? When Cayenne Pepper is called for in a salve recipe, what "HU number" of Capsicum annuum should I order? If a recipe does not specify which part of the plant to use, (as in the recipe only lists the herb), is it best to use the "Leaves"? ... the "Flowers", ... or should a mixture of the "Leaves, Stems and Flowers" be used? Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated. :)

Excellent questions!! You can use powders. I do not. They are really gummy at the end when you go to separate the liquid fro the bulk herb. The powder will have more surface area therefore it will be stronger if used. For me… it is just to messy and hard to separate. I have tried a cheese cloth, pillow case fabric, coffee filters, I just am not a fan, but can be used. With storage. If you vaccum seal the l
Remaining herbs in amounts of 1/3 per quart jar or whatever size jar you are using, then they will last longer. I use other ball jars and toss a bunch of moisture removers in them. I don’t use a specific HU for red pepper in salves but I do use organic. I also use cayenne pepper in my turmeric capsules to enter your system faster just be aware ti much can cause heartburn. Lastly and hopefully these answers help. If it says herb it can be a combination of leaves, roots and flowers. Knowing it might be a combo and it would say on the package. Most are just one of them. You would let the alcohol set for 8 weeks to go with the extraction of the longest part of the plant. Roots and stems definitely 8 weeks. Flowers and leaves can go as low as 4 weeks but I do 8 for most and pretty much have a constant rotation of the same herbs going as soon as I bottle them. I have other videos on maca, and some tinctures. Thanks for your great questions! I look forward to seeing how it is going for you.

@@whitewillow142 Thanks so very much for your answers! They are very helpful. Due to the mess of powders, I think I will stick with the non-powdered forms of the herbs. So ... if a recipe does NOT specify a specific part of the plant, I can use any part?

@@christychester8806 well. That depends on the herb. But I wish I could see an example. Some herbs the roots have different properties than the flowers. Some roots you can’t use. But can use the flowers. What herb are you starting with

@@whitewillow142 Here is an example: For "Nature's Ibuprofen" ... 2 oz. of dried feverfew or willow instead, with 80 proof alcohol. So what part would I use of the feverfew? ... or what part of the willow? When willow is stated, does that mean white willow? Thanks for any clarification. :)

@@christychester8806 willow is the bark. Feverfew is the leaves and flowers. You will be addicted. I think I have a video on feverfew, and the name of my business is White Willow. 😉.
