- Learn how to balance a garage door in this video. Usually, after replacing a garage door spring, you will need to make sure the door is balanced again so it operates smoothly.

That was quick, succinct, and had the information I needed without a musical intro, sales pitch, or politically correct nannying about how I should wear safety equipment. Thank you.
great job and summary. short and sweet and to the point.
i'm showing this channel to all my friends!
Well done. The video and audio quality were great, unlike most of the videos on this subject.
great tutorial that addressed exactly what was wrong with my door - even the adjustment was the same. (installer had left one of the set screws loose...)
You are so good man and make it look easy. Thanks
by far the coolest channel on youtube
Can't believe you have so many good videos!
Your work is absolutely awesome1
How are you not famous yet? I love these!
Thank you sir. Have a great day.
I love these types of videos
Doors with glass panels are not meant to be completely balanced as the top panel is making its way down the radius. The standard balance test, according to DASMA, is to raise the door to a mid-way position, and let go. If it stays in place, your door is balanced. I do agree though that doors WITHOUT a glass panel will demonstrate a less dramatic slam as the door is coming to a close. Beware though when putting tension on those big whoppers up there - if the spring is only rated for a certain amount of turns, you can prematurely break the spring. (I am sure this is knowledge that you already possess - just one garage door tech to another) Nice vid!
these vids are always awesome xD
I subscribed, can't wait for the next one.
If you have Wayne-Dalton Torque master springs, they are enclosed in a metal tube so you can definitely adjust old ones. But yes, wear a full face hockey or motorcycle helmet if adjusting old exposed torsion spring
you deserve a lot more subscribers!
your videos are inspirational
Thanks for this video.
Nice editing!
Hi, very interesting video and Thank you for posting! I got a double very heavy garage door (we are in hurricane zone) which is out of balance because is almost impossible to lift it manuanlly. I follwed your video and I found that I can't rotate the springs any more, they are totaled compressed. What should be the issue here, are the springs damaged, old and need to be replaced?. The whole garage door and lifting system was changed in 2015. Thank you
Do you always make good videos like this?
Do both springs exert the same directional force? i mean are both springs there to lighten the door? my door is super heavy to lift manually and the spring on the left seems much more unwound and longer than the spring on the right when the door is down.
You are brilliant! :]
i love your videos!!!!!!!!!
It has made my day.
Thanks for this video. I used it to adjust the ramp in my car hauler, and I still have all of my teeth.
One note for those watching, he does his adjustments with the door closed. I assumed that I'd do the same on the drop ramp on a trailer, but it's the opposite. You need to adjust the spring while it's under maximum tension. For a garage door, that's when the door is closed. For a drop ramp on a trailer, it's when the ramp is down.
How do I know that I have the correct springs length? I checked the old one and I got two sizes, 28 and 31 inches.
Cool video.
You deserve a lot more views than you have.
Enjoyed it.
I bookmarked this video for future reference!
The only improvement that I would add is prior to tightening the set screws is to tap them over a 1/4". That way the spring coils don't bind.
do you mean add a little length because springs tend to get tighter as you wind them up ?
i have put them on with the door fully open let the door wind them up
Unfortunately, all the videos I've seen have springs like this one, but mine is different. The springs must be inside the tube that runs across the width of the door, and there are adjustment "dials" on either end with nice orange warning tags attached. Still searching...
the cable tension is the most important at first, if uneven it pulls one side up before the other
your videos are the coolest on the web
Nice channel
i didnt see where he leveled the door ? is one cable tighter than the other and its pulling it up uneven ?
Thanks for the warning. A buddy died replacing the sping, and someone else i know had a rod go through his eye.
What do i do if the last peice of the door hits the "wall" on the way up and get stuck before it completely reaches the top ?
How do you know if you have the correct spring
:) I like ur videos
Which side controls up and which side controls down??
i totally subscribed
Thank you
One of my garage doors is a two car garage and has wood on the outside so it is heavy as a mo-fo. I just had a spring break so I had to replace it. I decided to go ahead and replace all of them (there are three springs total). I wound each of the springs a total of about 28 quarter turns. The door was still heavy when first starting to open the door so I went ahead and wound them an additional two quarter turns. The door is still kind of heavy at the bottom however it is balanced in the middle (won't go up or down) so I was wondering if it is ok? The opener motor doesn't appear to be struggling but just wanted to make sure. I know I could probably add more quarter turns, but I don't want to over torque the springs.
How did your garage do ? It's been 4 years since you posted. Did it fix the issue?
inspirational...
you inspired me to make videos
what song did you use
Please make more videos.
i thumbs up this video
more videos!!!
will this work on a single garage door as well?
yes it will
You do know that if you have 2 springs the other spring will hold the cable tension so you don’t need the vise grips.
Which side controls up and which side controls down??
@@markchambers8641 huh?
@@markchambers8641 both springs pull the door up. Gravity pulls the door down. One spring is a "right" spring, the other is a "left" coil spring.
EPIC? VIDS
Not "3 winds" ( 1:39 - 1:44).......instead....you did *1/4 turn, 3 times*......that would be 3/4 wind.
this is one sexy channel
The door shouldn't be that heavy after a year your springs are obviously shit. How many max turns can that spring take 8 ? U just put it at 8 so what happens in another year have to adjust them again also on a double u don't need to vice grip one spring will hold the tension
he took turns off the springs just to the this video
Bros making me nervous standing in front of that winding bar, relying only in the vice grips
Safety glasses ?
what are you doing on youtube? go contact hollywood!
Me starting to adjust a 40 yr old garage door
Are you still alive?
Go to woodprix if you'd like to build it yourself.
Not helpful at ALL
way to not discuss what tools to use and just talk about adjusting it from 20 feet away…
Should be called “how to balance a garage for people who already know how to balance a garage”
Can't believe you have so many good videos!
I love these types of videos
