    fun fact: If you instead knockout the diglett, and then do the growling to the sandshrew (or skip it if you don't care about it being level 1) you can encounter a lickitung!

  • @JcGWAMPROD
    @JcGWAMPROD Před 8 lety +18

    Although I already knew about this, thanks for putting up a video explaining the steps, great job!
    It is also important to note that if you don't want the gengar to jump up to level 100, then simply don't use growl at all on the diglett, just Thunder Shock it. You'll encounter it at level 7 if you don't use growl which means there's a better chance of catching it and not outright killing it!

    Rather than waiting for the rare candy, you could always just use your lvl 1 Gengar in Brock's gym. It takes a while in battle but they can't hurt gengar with their normal attacks.

    I recommend only using growl 5 times, as it is much easier to catch Gengar since he will be at level 2 and can take the hit with below half health, making him easier to catch.
    plus, it's nice having him not be level 100, as you can actually enjoy a normal play through with the game and have a dope Gengar on your team.

    • @magmivire
      @magmivire Před 8 lety +2

      Yeah that's the appeal of level 1 Pokémon in Gen I (the 6 Growls are actually to affect the level of the Gengar). The lowest level you were supposed to be able to see before Gen IV was 2, so the programmers I guess didn't bother to check how the experience formulae worked at level 1, so they accidentally made it so that certain Pokémon (namely the ones in the Medium Slow experience group) technically had -54 experience points. So if it gains less than 54 exp in its next battle, when the game checks whether or not it should be leveling up, it reads the experience as a bit under 17,000,000 and shoots the Pokémon to level 100.

      +Sauzels Yeah it's called underflow, I should've mentioned it in the vid but I totally forgot lol. If you just save it until you get a rare candy in mt moon you can use it in legit after candying to level 2 I THINK. Not 100% sure, but because candy just advances level and not EXP it should work. Worth a test I think.

    @TheRealDylanator Před 8 lety +8

    NOTE: A similar thing can be done in Red and Blue! You need to get an encounter in the one spot where the last trainer can see you and die to the wild Pokemon and die to it. This is because the trainer in this video doesn't exist in Red or Blue. Now in RB and Yellow you don't need to get a Gengar. The Pokemon you get is based on the special stat of the last Pokemon you fought. So if you already beat brock try all the trainers and wild Pokemon up to the end of Mt.Moon. You can get some cool stuff like Arcanine. You NEED to growl it to level 1 if you want a level 100. There's a glitch that if you get not enough exp to get to level 2 you go straight to 100 because Gamefreak never intended for anyone to get a level one and this confuses the game. I went and healed up at Viridian city and went to the skipable rival battle and did this to his Eevee, this guarantees a Nidoqueen. I can't recall what the special stat needs to be but unlike wild Pokemon, trainer Pokemon have fixed stats.

    • @kitschyliepard
      @kitschyliepard Před 6 lety

      so THAT's what I'm doing wrong...I kept getting lvl 1 pokes but I guess I'm doing their first battles where they're getting too much exp.
      EDIT: Okay..took my lvl 1 dragonite to rt 1 and made sure he didn't get enough exp to level to 2, and that didn't work, either x_x
      EDIT 2: Upon further research, jumping to lvl 100 with the underflow glitch only works with pokemon that have "medium slow" growth rates, and the dratini line is one of the few 3-stage mons that is not part of that group. D'oh!

  • @newunfinished9320
    @newunfinished9320 Před 4 lety +1

    It doesn’t have to be just gengar the way it works is fairly simple all you have to do is the escape from the person. after that, battle anyone then the last pokemon they bring out growl 6 times. doing this will make it instead of level seven into level one after the 6th growl kill it and go back to the Forrest. The moment you walk inside a wild encounter will show up. depending on what Pokémon you killed and what there special stat is will determine the Pokémon you get. and the thing that is annoying here is if it isn’t fully evolved it won’t go to level 100 which is sad... but yea it doesnt just have to be with this gengar who knows what Pokémon it is if you kill Brocks onix also there are other trainers like that in the game and if you know what the specific special attack needs to be for specific Pokémon you can knock out a trainer with last pokemon with that stat btw for mew you need a special stat of 21

    I accidentaly grew it to lv. 100, taking all fun of training away, but you were right, thanks

  • @theoneandonlyravioli2985

    Does this only work in yellow or will it work in red/blue as well like most of the other glitches do? I noticed this method is only shown on yellow version unlike the other method battling rival 2. This method seems a lot simpler.

    • @theoneandonlyravioli2985
      @theoneandonlyravioli2985 Před rokem

      Nevermind, found a comment that answered. Does not work in red/blue because the trainer in yellow does not exist in red/blue.

    I was trying to do the Nidoking glitch, but apparently I messed up, because I got Gengar instead XD.
    Unfortunately, when I threw poke balls at it, it just said that the poke ball missed. I tried again, and I got a Likitounge. Also uncatchable.

    Does Gengar get affected by the underflow glitch so you can instantly get to level 100?

    • @SuperBlah
      @SuperBlah  Před 8 lety

      +TheGuyWhoIsSitting Yeah, you can either have it gain more than 54 exp to hit level 2 or just not do the growl part to get a higher level gengar though.

    • @_RRojo
      @_RRojo Před 8 lety +1

      I think you might have to fight Lass before hand in the forest to clear this up for you. It was my problem , she's on the left side first entering the forest .

      Jet Wolf I had the same problem, I realized that the trainer I kept getting was one of the big catchers I hadn’t fought, the first one you see that can be avoided by just stepping in the grass, so I’m going back and fighting him, I’ll update this if it works.
