  • Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow are home to many glitches. But one particular glitch, even moreso than MissingNo., rises above the rest as the ultimate way to twist the game into your own experience. Let's talk about it.

    I forgot to mention this in the video but while the glitch used in Viridian Forest before Brock is still usable in Red and Blue, results may vary because the Jr. Trainer in Pewter Gym has a slightly different team and there's no long range trainer in Viridian Forest, requiring some alternate methods to set up the glitch, like whiting out to a wild Pokémon encountered on a tile directly next to a trainer who would normally battle the player. Whiting out to poison directly next to a trainer is also a possible method. Again, lots of different applications for this trick and lots of ways to set it up, so I hope this video was helpful!

      The variety of Pokemon you can get is quite good. You can get some pretty exotic stuff though low catch rates on some of the Pokemon are really painful.

    I didn't know the trainer in Misty's gym could be used for the Mew glitch, I only knew you could do it by beating the trainer with the lvl 17 Slowpoke on route 25. Very cool!

      @AzureFlute  Před 6 měsíci +6

      Yup that's another option of course! Misty's Gym was what I just chose to use, but I have used the Youngster before as well!

      Thank you! I do have some prior experience with very minimally edited content but I've been growing rapidly recently and my passion to keep getting better at video editing as well as Pokémon led me to make this channel!

    I've played around with this before, and it's fun bending the game to your will like this. I realized you could also get Ditto to transform into something with a raised attack to get higher level Pokemon to spawn. Mew learns transform at level 10. My idea was to use the transform glitch you can pull to force shiny Ditto to force a shiny Mew. Sadly, if you catch a transformed mon, the game will automatically assume it's a Ditto, so I walked out with a shiny Ditto. If anyone knows a way to untransform a Pokemon (while keeping its transformed DV's) there may be an easy bake method for getting shiny Mew.

  • @ShiningJudgment666
    @ShiningJudgment666 Před 6 měsíci +6

    Getting Mew prior to the Misty battle kind of trivializes the game. It's already super strong for the point in the game you get it, it doesn't drop off and I can't even think of a bad match-up that it has from that point onwards. Adding Exp underflow glitch to it makes it even easier but with how Gen 1 leveling works (level skipping and if you skip a level you'd learn a move at, you miss out on said move), you can potentially be stuck with pretty bad movesets. Though thankfully TMs exist.

    • @AzureFlute
      @AzureFlute  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yeah I just figured showing off the glitch at that specific point was best since it's easiest (IMO) to do it then, I probably should have mentioned it in the video but that's a good point about underflow, Gengar thankfully has Night Shade but not everything has a good movepool to start off, though I left that stuff out since it was only tangentially related, still very worth anyone else reading the comments here to know, so good to point out nonetheless!

  • @AgusSkywalker
    @AgusSkywalker Před 5 měsíci +3

    Theoretically, if you have a gen 2 game, you could combine this glitch with the shiny ditto glitch and have a guaranteed shiny Mew. Since that glitch uses Transform, and Mew and Ditto are the only pokemon with the move

  • @joefarrow1599
    @joefarrow1599 Před 5 měsíci +3

    I saw a video with a gen 2 glitch which allowed arbitrary code execution using the computer, I think that's got to rank pretty highly in terms of "most exploitable glitches"

    • @AzureFlute
      @AzureFlute  Před 4 měsíci +1

      True, but I do think ACE is a whole separate beast entirely. At that point it's less just a glitch and more using an exploit to rewrite the code of the game itself, which is insane how people managed to learn it.
      I used it once before to get a Celebi in Gold, actually! Very fun exploit, might make a video on that one day.

      Also, you can get Mew as early as Mt. Moon! The trainer with only a Clefairy when you first walk in there has a Special of 21, so if you have an Escape Rope & are open to backtracking to Viridian Forest, you can spawn Mew just a smidge earlier.

    In Pokémon Yellow, there is a long range Rocket in one sub-level of Mt. Moon. Using scape rope and fighting another trainer in the previous route (I do not remember who), I got a Lickitung. I ignore if it works in Red/Blue.

    I did the same glitch with a different trainer to get Mew.
    I used that glitch since pkmn Red.
    Sadly in my Yellow version on the 3DS, it doesent allow me to transfer it to Pkmn Bank.

    • @AzureFlute
      @AzureFlute  Před 5 měsíci

      Yeah unfortunately the only Mew that can be transferred to Bank are Mew with the GF OT since those were the event Mew, other Mew will get flagged as unable to be brought up

    • @budgetcoinhunter
      @budgetcoinhunter Před 5 měsíci

      That's when other glitches come to the rescue. Thankfully, you can set up RAM in such a way that you can use a glitch item to cuase the game to write the proper ID and OT to the Mew, and Bank will happily accept it.

    can you escape rope for one guy on the path then leave the path and come back into the path to fight a trainer on that path?

    • @AzureFlute
      @AzureFlute  Před 4 měsíci

      Results might vary, I haven't tried it on every route you can do it with, but this is actually a common way to get Mew! Instead of using the trainer in Misty's Gym there is a Youngster up past Nugget Bridge on Route 25 with a Slowpoke, and they can be used to store the same 21 Special stat needed for Mew. You just need to turn around and go back to Cerulean after.

    Can you use the same trainer for for multiplayer glitch in the same game?

  • @Raionhardt
    @Raionhardt Před 4 měsíci +1

    It's called arbitrary code execution.
    You are writing code into the game.
    This is why it's easy to corrupt the game if you don't understand exactly what you're writing

    • @AzureFlute
      @AzureFlute  Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah, I understand ACE a bit, though this is a trick that doesn't really require the average player to know what ACE is, and found it would be much more digestible to an average viewer to disregard it for the purposes of the video. ACE is pretty crazy though, and I used it in Gold to do the Celebi egg trick myself. It's really useful as long as it's done properly!

  • @jmw9904

    If you use growl on the trainer pokemon, then mew will be a lower level.
