    I was looking at yarn indicators online and I thought to myself, I can make those with my vice and yarn and an o ring. well that led me here, lo and behold. Thanks for your instruction. I've also seen many of your videos and I enjoy them.

    I tried this and fish kept biting it so I attached a small hook to it so now it can catch fish too!

      That doesn't surprise me that they hit the strike indicator. Especially when the trout are freshly stocked. You can tie this indicator on a hook like you would an egg pattern, but don't trim the egg yarn close.

      Oh I just tied one into the side and it still worked.

    Where do you get the "egg" yarn?

      Any fly tying supplier will have it. Check Cabellas or Feather Craft.

    Can you use regular knitting yarn to make these?

    • @TheFlymanJim
      @TheFlymanJim  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Jeff, yes you can but use an antron or synthetic yarn. Then you need to use floatant on them .

      Jim Misiura cool! Thank you very much for getting back to me. I was giving a bunch of blaze orange yarn but i don’t know what it is made of. As long as it will work then i will make some floats and use floatant on them just in case.

      That will help greatly. What I use now is even easier, check out my "Playlist Quick Tips " for a video of the Sticky foam indicators. Simple and dirt cheap.

    you are taking the time to make indicators that I buy 3 for 3.39 at my fly shop - basically a buck a piece - seriously - how much free time do you have on your hands. I'd rather tie flies - or better yet - fish with my time

      I agree I personally use a 3/4 inch piece of sticky back foam. With them you get 100's for less than $1
